Litecoin is a national currency of the free people from China Wink There always will be demand for it.

Ah yes, I forgot this one, but it is a good point. Chinese identity is definitely there, and might help LTC in the long term this is true.

Litecoin has been steadily going down; it does not bring anything new to the table compared to Bitcoin. There are many other alt coins which are more innovative; they should do better than Litecoin in the long run... Smiley

Well what was it that I said that wasnt true, please? Litecoin price has been very disappointing lately... and Litecoin is the same PoW principle as the Bitcoin; its just that there is more of it. Is there room in the economy for both these very similar coins? I am not so sure. Many altcoins however are working really hard to innovate and bring new ideas to the table, is also what I am noticing as a Newbie as you say.

We can't really tell what will happen but I don't think Ltc will simply vanish. Not yet anyways as the fall in price recently has followed a mini bubble which saw the price rise quite sharply. So the recent decrease has been the market redressing itself to what it should be. There will a few more jumps and falls before it settles for a bit. Then we will go through it all again and tht is when we will have these doom predictions fill the forums again. Smiley

Not many people use Litecoin compared to Bitcoin at all, its an altcoin, a fork of Bitcoins code.

Litecoin is a backup for bitcoin, as i view it.

If bitcon gets fucked by this blocksize debate, the most likely litecoin will take its place.

All merchants can easily integrate litecoin just like bitcoin, so the transition would be very fast.

Agree. Is a lifeboat. And a "second best" or several of them is a normal thing, and they use to survive to and even they get equal or surpass the first idea. Facebook - Google +, Coke - Pepsi, iOS - Android ... etc.

Bitcoin will hardly survive alone. It is very likely that other alts would do it too, and litecoin is a very likely one.

Well if the blocksize debate turns out bad, then the litecoin guys will know what not to do.

Bitcoin is the biggest crypto, but its also the lab-rat that is being tested for this new technology, so its risky to hold it.

Thats why i diversified my portfolio in the coins i have next to my avatar to get an idea how to manage risk in crypto

Actually you are quite wrong, and honestly I cant blame you because (I assume? If I am wrong please let me know) you arent involved with Litecoin that much. Adamantly its always in the same breath as Litecoin, but we get scrutinized by banks and governments almost as much as Bitcoin. Perfect example can be seen here where the HM treasury specifically references Litecoin.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/bitcoin-litecoin-how-could-digital-currencies-revolutionise-the-way-we-pay

Banks are also asking if someone is involved in Bitcoin OR Litecoin. I'm not going to search the whole internet for examples, but hopefully this shows that there is increased attention and scrutinization beyond your assumptions.

Er, where is Litecoin's - Circle, Coinbase, Bitpay, GBTC, ETN, ATMs, merchant acceptance, Factom and on and on.

A few mentions hither and thither does not make heat.

Litecoin could easily plug into all the above services. There's a certain other coin that inspired people to make them all possible.

Here's what I think: Bitcoin is widely used among many people and it's the most valuable crypto. As for Litecoin, it is a good coin. The problem is that Litecoin has lack of development and no real innovation. So the only thing that Litecoin is good for right now is for holding until there's an increase in price (hopefully until the next block halving) Just my opinion. Please correct me if I'm wrong  Roll Eyes

lots of people uses litecoin just for trading
like when ltc/btc price goes fown they buy and when goes up they sell

You're so smart. I wish I can grow up to be a genius like you. People use btc and ltc for way more then just speculation. It's used to by products and services in the real world everyday.

Litecoin will do what it needs to do in order to scale when the time comes, and I can guarantee you that it will be much smoother than what is going on with Bitcoin right now.

LTC will never be better in bitcoin.. when stress test happen in LTC can become dead coin or no value..
as of now LTC dont experience Pressure thats why you can say that run smoothly..
but when stress come value of it can go lower and lower until no one use..
bitcoin value dont go lower because it high and even stress test come price of it cant lower than LTC..
but think if the bitcoin price is like LTC and experience stress test..do you think it will survive?

I find it very interesting that you included your first statement "LTC will never be better in Bitcoin" (I assume you mean better than?).

Litecoin did in fact experience the same thing, and it was in the form of an attack (which some folks claim has happened with Bitcoin recently beyond Coinwallets stress test). I address this very specifically in an interview I did somewhat recently.

http://bitcoinist.net/exclusive-interview-andrew-vegetabile-litecoin-update/

You can also find Charlie talking about this same thing here (also linked in the article)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3ci25k/the_current_spam_attack_on_bitcoin_is_not/

I guess you would have to define "pressure". A lot of the pressure, publicly at least, has been artificially created.

Litecoin, whatever its merits are, isn't bearing the weight of varying expectations. It's mined, traded on exchanges, a handful of merchants are accepting it and that's it.

There aren't any separate financial instruments in the works, there aren't heavyweight holders from beyond cryptoland that we know about and dark markets don't use it.

It can happily tick away with a harmonious community because it's not on the front line being battered from all directions. If LTC suddenly became the daddy then all of the same arguments, vested interests, political wranglings and nefarious actors would descend upon it.

It's very easy to say things are smooth when everyone's on the same page. If it stopped hiding in BTC's shadow and started leading the way that would grind to a halt.

Bottom line here, and this entire thread, is that opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. There are die hard BTC supporters, there are money grabbers, there are Litecoin supporters, and those in between each one. All I know is that I am a Litecoin supporter AND a Bitcoin supporter, as with nearly everyone involved with Litecoin. Personally im in this for crypto and the possibilities it brings, and I am doing my small part in order to bring cryptos to the world.

Maybe if the fork finally comes to pass or there is no consensus people will go to litecoin. You never know ... markets are so strange.

It is true that it does not add much, but that might change if one team of developers is enthusiastic and strong and the other is not. Just maybe. Popularity is a big thing, and it favors Bitcoin.
