I don't think Litecoin will ever be less than #2, copy or not.

It could easily be overtaken briefly by super hyped coins. Whether they have similar staying power is another matter.

Yet Ripple is clearly #2, with almost twice the market cap of Litecoin. Of course, near its intro, Ripple's market cap was briefly higher than Bitcoin's.

I ain't shilling for Ripple here - I think it is another piece o' crap just like all the other alts. Just sayin'.

i still don't think about any other alt coin, bitcoin rules!

Sure, but i`m in litecoin too, just for insurance. It is stable now ,and it might get big soon.

Dogecoin has a push because of gambling, but litecoin got accepted too at some casinos recently so who knows.

For the ones that has their Litecoins for a long time I can understand, but for the new people that come into crypto space, to invest into Litecoin makes not too much sense to me.

I think that they are far more interesting all coins out there that are worth of investment more than Litecoin. I just don't see it, for a copy coin to be anything big in the end. After all, even in 10 years, Litecoin will just be a copy of Bitcoin.

Does it really matter if it is just a copy? Mastercard is basically the same as VISA and both seem to be doing quite well.

If the tech is decent (litecoin) it doesnt matter if it is just a copy of bitcoin.

There might be some truth in your reasoning. But for your reasoning to become a reality, Bitcoin has to be huge, I mean absolutely huge in my opinion. Just like Visa and Mastercard are. They are covering majority of the market together with Amex but then again, Amex is covering niche market.

Insurance for what? If bitcoin goes, so to does litecoin.

Plenty of opportunities for arbitrage to sustain litecoin "investment" for the time being.

As long as ltc to btc is around 0.01225 or some such as i has been since halving i will hold my 2500 ltc (mined before halving at 53c..now mining at 1.06 if just elec not counting roi on equip to be fair)

my eventual goal is to xfer the ltc to btc so i'm holding for now......my hope?? is that when the btc devs get done and after their 'slap fight' get their act together

i hope that btc will pop and ltc will pop as well at a better rate..so price is not the issue for me it is the 2500 ltc i'm sitting on for eventual xfer to btc

(with when i move the ltc i'm mining now as well) Smiley

this could all change for me at a whim thou Smiley

Litecoin is too risky. Bitcoin is the gold and if bitcoin fail, the silver litecoin will fail after bitcoin. If you have litecoin get some bitcoin too. Or get some bitcoin and no litecoin. Get it?

both of them are very risky investments, because bitcoin has swings in price too and is not yet stable. but i agree that if bitcoin were to fail for any reason then all other altcoins would fail miserably too. because nobody is going to look for a substitute for a failed technology. but this failing is not possible at least for the near future.

I don't necessarily agree with you prediction that if bitcoin fails (which I highly doubt will happen any time soon), that other altcoins won't be able to make it because every coin "copies" bitcoin infrastructure.  There are a probably 3 or so good candidates that show a good new infrastructure that doesn't just copy bitcoins exact technology.  And personally, I believe that these coins (or coins that will be developed in the near future) can/will hold around the same purchasing power as bitcoin... they will just offer different people different capabilities in how they want their cryptos to function.

no no, i don't mean other altcoins would fail because they are copies. ofcourse there are some copies of bitcoin which obviously would fail right after (if the fail were to happen...) but i mean that if bitcoin which is the biggest cryptocurrency right now, were to go down, i find it hard to believe that people would want a substitute for a failed technology.
for example a coffee shop that decided to go through the hassle of accepting bitcoin, would not go through the hassle of substituting it again.

p.s. i am not saying any of this failing is possible or is happening though

Of course bitcoin. It has a higher price, most popular crypto so far. Plus theres a lot of store now in other country that accept bitcoin as payment. People likes bitcoin than other crypto.

Innovation with recognition is what will triumph over BTC. BTC in its current form isnt quite usable - it was a great invention but now innovation must be allowed to continue. LTC isnt quite the coin to replace BTC, but LTC is technically superior to BTC.

Which specific features of Litecoin make it superior to Bitcoin in your analysis? Because, frankly, I can't think of a single one.

I do like how litecoin uses the scrypt algorithm to try to restrict people from becoming too powerful mining.

Litecoin could be Bitcoin's small brother in the future although not much innovation is happening there it seems. But I'm always having an eye on it.

Litecoin's daddy has specifically said he doesn't want innovation. He just wants it to work, which it does. Maybe that attitude will win out over the propellorheads throwing all that shit at the wall. Time will tell.

I didn't know that. Thanks for that info. And yes Litecoin works. Maybe it will become the digital silver beside our digital gold. I could live with it. Smiley

At least Ethereum and its clones have their own source code dependant from Bitcoin (I think) If Bitcoin fails, all other alt coins would fail, but Ethereum, Shift and Expanse might still be alive. Just my opinion  Roll Eyes

Ethereum isn't the only altcoin which has it's own source code. NXT for instance was the first altcoin made from scratch regarding the code.Furthermore NXT has many features and a very active user and developer base. Ethereum therefore is a lot of talk so far and will have to deliver.

There are plenty more coins with unique source code too. The technical ins and outs have very little to do with faith and that's all that counts in terms of success or failure.

From all the altcoins I think Litecoin is the best. Market capitalization of Litecoin is $154 million, which is the second to Bitcoin's $6.34 billion among all cryptocurrencies. I think in the far future there will be at least several cryptocurrencies active and Litecoin will definitely be among them. But for now I'd stick to Bitcoin because it has much more support.
