In traditional investments, long term is most often considered to be a minimum of 5 years. But bitcoin seems to live its life in hyper drive, hence the question to the bitcoin world, what is long term to the average bitcoin investor?
maybe 20 years is long enough time for bitcoin investor. actually he can be a millioner by that time. you can see the bitcoin growth in these 5 years. so i think that 20 years is average time to get huge profit.

My vote goes for 5 years or more, also. I think during this time it will reach mass adoption.

5 years is considered mid term in traditional sense. Long term are product such as bonds...

To me, long term is 5 to 15 years. I have bought some bitcoin in 2013, I did not sell them. I used some of them.

long term investment in bitcoin , for me, it means as long as bitcoin becomes popular (more than what it is now) and reaches that mass adoption stage that we are all hoping for it to reach.
and this stage happens to be needing a long time which can be around 5 years or more.
so long term investment here is also 5 years but it can be shorter if that adoption stage is reached sooner because of some unpredicted things happening.

Bitcoin is very different to traditional investments and I feel like comparing apples to oranges here because with the price of Bitcoin being so volatile one could get the same yield in just under one year where a 'normal' investment could have taken at least 2 or more years. But not everything is rainbows and unicorns when it comes to Bitcoin investments because the price swings are so big and so frequent that you may end up losing money and not gaining anything. I have set a rule for my Bitcoin investment where I access the market situation every year and if I think there is an opportunity to make a profit I sell. I believe 1 year is just about right when we are dealing with such a volatile commodity like Bitcoin.

I'd have to agree with some users and say that long term is at least 10 years...
Wow, it's a long time, maybe only 4 - 5 years long term investment for me because I wait for $1000+ for 1 bitcoin price, And need to gather more bitcoin. And renew my investment.

I would say that 10 years is a long term investment. 5 years is definitely not a long term investment. I hope that Bitcoin continues to be a great investment and continue to rise in price.

the long term investment in bitcoin is a 5 year or even more period for me. because i believe that bitcoin will be mass adopted in that period of time and the price will be much higher and ready to be used as a real currency.

In bitcoin long term were at least above 2years. I won't prefer long term investment with bitcoin as their is no assurance of future happening. I make investment depending upon the price fluctuation taking place.

It would be similar to the traditional definition for most bitcoin investors.

Cryptocurrencies are going to change the world much like the auto and airplane changed travel! Cool

For me long term investment in bitcoin is more than 5 years. I trade some of my bitcoin into fiat and I always leave 20% of what I earn freely to my bitcoin wallet and keep it there long term.

long term for me is more than 5 years but i am not just holding my bitcoin blindly for this five years because bitcoin is not stocks to sleep on it.
i would like to see bitcoin as a currency and also as something that i constantly trade so i dedicate some portion of my holding to these two things that i mentioned. but the rest is in cold storage and will be kept for 5+ years
