I'm a long termer but if I did have significant skin in the game I'd keep a careful eye on things and be ready to run if necessary. The whole thing could unravel pretty darned rapidly in the case of technical disasters, the Chinese government going all out to squash it and plenty else besides.

5 years is a good time I thought, surely we will pass some of the highest price every year. but for the long term you have to really patient seems, because bitcoin prices fluctuating and sometimes stable for long time.

I'd have to agree with some users and say that long term is at least 10 years...

Long term is pretty much 10 year+

If you were to have say 100 BTC at this time, then if it will become 10,000 USD/BTC then you will have 1 million $.

It is a totally possible scenario that in 10 years we will see 10k bitcoin. I am positive about it's outcome!

I do not consider 5 years long term investment, more like medium term investment. I personaly buy and hold most of my Bitcoins, I dont have time set, just when it happens I really need the saved Bitcoins, Im gonna spend it. The second, very unlikely condition, if the price really skyrockets at least 100x so it would be real life changing wealth for me.

I think if you have some bitcoin's it's always a good idea to try & save some for the future incase the price explodes so I think people should be invested for over 5 years. Hopefully the price doesn't tank though or that'd be awful Smiley

In traditional investments, long term is most often considered to be a minimum of 5 years. But bitcoin seems to live its life in hyper drive, hence the question to the bitcoin world, what is long term to the average bitcoin investor?

To me when I buy for long term I am actually buying for 5+years. I say at least 50% of my bitcoin will not be touched for a decade, (god willing) maybe they will sooner if something happens to me and family cash out. To the average bitcoin investor I would agree with the hyper drive mentality and long term to them would be one year.

Long term for me is 5 years or more, I think the best thing to do right now is invest & HODL for even up to or over 10 years.

Long term for me if I was investing in bitcoin would be 10-15 years from 2008, after that I wouldn't call it long term due to the volatility. But despite being long term, I wouldn't call it a wise option for long term investment, because it has never been easy to say that the price would go up or down.
