If you are investing little amount or holding only few bitcoins than i think 5 year holding should be considered as perfect holding period but if you have 100+ bitcoin than better to hold till pump and sell at pumped price than buy back. There is no reason to keep holding if you have hundreds of bitcoin.

Well in ordinary finance system, long term is around 5 and above years of waiting.  But in the world of Cryptocurrency, on month is equivalent to a lifetime.  Due to it's high volatility, Bitcoin price changes from time to time.  It maybe up this week and down next week.  So as for me in Bitcoin, 5 months i think is a long term in cryptocurrency world.

When it comes to Bitcoin even a few weeks could be  a long term because of the price volatility. So, you have to watch everyday the price and see how things are going at the market. In general, holdong Bitcoin over 3-6 moths could be very risky unless you are playing on realy longterm, like saving for retirement, which  also have seen here on forum.

in bitcoin i don't dare to save my bitcoins over than 6 months because prices very unstable especially currently it's too risky for me and for bitcoin if i could reach my target sell i would like to sell all of my bitcoins even though less than 3 months

that is right. The bitcoin price is too volatile. It was $780 a few days ago. It is $620 now. A drop of $160 in two days.

once you buy a bitcoin never sell them... like never

only spend in bitcoin

I think that's a silly move what is the purpose of buying bitcoin if we don't sell it and make some money? lol.

Dont be crazy. One day people wont want money and you'll be able to purchase groceries and gas with bitcoin. When that happens what's the point of selling for cash?

I agree with that! At the moment, I will spend bitcoin whenever I can with immediate buy back so that my holding will not change/drop- I actually buy back slightly more!

5 years or more is considered long term by many investors, average and big whales too. Who knows in 5 years from now bitcoin price may even be at 10.000 USD per coin, now imagine someone who bough lets say 100 bitcoins with 400 or even 700 USD spending about 70.000 USD max nowadays. Imagine after 5 years in an optimistic prediction of 10.000 USD per coin, that is 1 mln dollars and a life changing event for many.

Like the song says.
Bitcoin is the power, power is bitcoin minute after minute, hour after hour.

In traditional investments, long term is most often considered to be a minimum of 5 years. But bitcoin seems to live its life in hyper drive, hence the question to the bitcoin world, what is long term to the average bitcoin investor?

Hi Bitinvestmint, yes you are right long term as what we define in finance is considered as 5 years above and 3-5 years as medium term and since bitcoin are being hyped nowadays that's why its value goes up so easily, for sure once its price started to go down, it will also go down so fast. So since I am an average bitcoin investor, I categorized long term as 6 months.

For Satoshi we know he'd vote for at least 7 years  Wink.  At least for the majority of his stash.

Long term for average bitcoin investor is 1 - 6 month. We can see in comments how much people like to earn fast money. Long term investment needs to be more then 5 years, everything before that is fast in my opinion.

Satoshi is millionaire for long time already, so maybe he is aiming more higher, to be billionaire?

Just over 4 years I can say long term for bitcoin. I think that 4 years is enough for investment because of halving. If you watched the last halving I think you can understand. The rate of bitcoin was big difference between before and after of halving. This time also same thing might be happening and also we can expect bigger than that also.

Long term to me means to hold at least for 5 years!
2 years I see more as a mid term investment.
And everything under 1 year is short term orientated imo.

Yeah definitely. For me, long term points towards the extremely long term. When fiat currencies have collapsed and the world is in havoc. And bitcoin will come and save the day Tongue

At least 10 years before that happens though. 10 years is long term to me.
