One of the solutions which is recommended by most gamblers on this forum for gambling addiction is "Therapy" . Professional help in the form of therapy. It is good and very effective but how many persons can actually afford it? There is a fee for each session that lasts for a duration of 60minutes. And there are more than one session. Therapy for gambling addiction is expensive. How can those who are unemployed afford it? How about the college student? Or the person receiving minimum wage. What are the other low cost but very effective solutions to gambling addiction. And typically how long will it take before the addict starts to feel more in control and less withdrawal symptoms?
Will totally appreciate your responses. Thanks.
Not all therapies are expensive. We've got this fear in our minds that something like this is expensive and that's why we don't approach someone who's professional into giving help like these therapies that an individual needs to go through.

We're not even asking and yet, we already have that thought that they're expensive, they're unaffordable and we can't avail a service like this because of our situation.

Answering all of those questions are uncertain unless you start asking and have that initiative to know how much they are and all of the answers will also vary depending on the consultant.

Being open to your family, friends or someone close to you is the cheapest way to resolve gambling addiction. You are only gambling because you don’t have other things to do on your free time that why you get the entertainment you are missing on social to gambling.

Having someone to look for you and remind you is better alternative on therapy since the therapist usually just want you to share and talk to your problem as way of solution. Most of gambling addicted friends stop gambling after being socialized frequently in a form of bonding especially with beer. Also being busy on job and having a good salary is other alternative to solve your gambling addiction cheaply and profitable at the same time.

Yes, I agree with you. You have a family that is always ready to help you if you have a problem, you have a friend that is always there and ready to listen to you when you need someone to talk to. You are not alone, don't be shy to approach them because they will really help you when you need it. Not someone else.

The first step would be to check if there are non-profit organizations where a gambler could get cheap or free therapy to recover througn time. Another method, which is not very Orthodox by the way, would be to join an online community of people who are also struggling with addiction to gambling and engage with conversations which those who have been able to reach a significant progress in their lives.
There are dedicated communities like that on Reddit, for example.
The ideal case would be to have money to visit a therapist, being paid by one or one's family, but I get that is not possible on 100% of the cases. Whether you are asking this for yourself or a friend, I hope you recover.

The therapy that you are talking about they only provide you with a path that you need to follow. But the work that needs to be done, you will have to do it on your own. Also in order to get rid of gambling addiction, you need to have the will to do it. People can show you the path, but it has to be you who needs to walk the path.
Having strict budget for gambling could solve the problem to some extent, but it is not guaranteed solution. You can try different methods that could be done without taking any sessions or therapy. That includes finding a new hobby, finding something that gives you the same adrenaline rush as gambling, playing some kind of games that you play on gambling sites, but those games should not contain gambling, you need to play those games without putting any bets on them. Taking a break from your gambling habit and change it little by little. The whole process will take time so don't think that you can overcome addiction in one day or in one week. I am a psychology student, and I guess I can help. So if you need any help then you can ask me, I will try to do my best to help you. And yeah, it's free of charges. I will be happy to help.

How can those who are unemployed afford it? How about the college student? Or the person receiving minimum wage.
Just as they try to get money to gamble, in the same way they have to try to get money for therapy costs if therapy is used as a solution to overcome the problem of gambling addiction.

Before reaching this stage, gamblers who feel they are classified as addicted gamblers, there is still an opportunity to slowly overcome their addiction by reducing the habit of spending $500 to avoid spending $500.
If it's difficult, I think gamblers should often go to church or a place of worship according to their beliefs. Spend time exercising such as playing football, volleyball or running in areas provided for the public.

They say and I am not sure it works because for me it does not works, they say to take a long walk every time you feel the urge to gamble.I take a long walk everyday as I get out to make a walk to my little daughter but as soon as I come back home my desire becomes even more aggressive and once my daughter is put to sleep I usually keep gambling.

The therapy should work it the person acknowledges that he has problems with gambling addiction and he needs to stop for his own benefit and I have seen that most times the therapy works.Therapy maybe expensive but gambling addiction is much more aggressive and expensive.

What are the other low cost but very effective solutions to gambling addiction. And typically how long will it take before the addict starts to feel more in control and less withdrawal symptoms?
Indeed, psychotherapy is expensive and requires a lot of money for gambling addicts to see specialist doctors such as psychiatrists and psychologists or neurological specialists who have solutions for treating gambling addiction and the drugs needed for patients, Indeed, recently the impact of addiction to online gambling has increased, the biggest factor being influenced by the recent Covid outbreak.

For this reason, different countries have different governments in treating and dealing with gambling addicts in getting treatment facilities, but in my country there are facilities provided by the government for poor/underprivileged people for those who are addicted to gambling, with free service programs such as rehabilitation and mental hospitals, all forms of treatment and services are free, patients are responsible for everything from free medicine, lodging, food and so on.

For me, to overcome gambling addiction for underprivileged people, the best solution is the government which is obliged to solve mental problems, clinics, apart from government facilities, it is difficult to provide solutions to gambling addiction which costs a lot of money in one treatment or rehabilitation.

"Support groups" are the alternative to therapy where you can meet the person and get experience from them who get rid of addictions.
Yes support groups work perfectly well. To add if you are a member of a religious organisation I know that some of these organisations usually organised free support groups for members who are struggling with several addictions. They would help you with both physical support spiritual support and even all the support that you will need. This is also very helpful as I have found.

But, being open to your family, friends, and relatives will strengthen your support system in which will help in the process of battling your addiction. I have not experience addiction, but I think having someone who can lend their shoulders and ears with you would be of a great help.
You need to accept every risk when you admit if you're a gambling addict. Your family most likely will not kick you from their house, but they will control everything you do and you will not have any privacy anymore. Many of your friends will stay away from you since they don't want to become a gambling addict, remember you're the fifth from your 4 friends. While your relatives might booed you and that will make your mental down.

Yes, this is actually a great alternative if one cannot afford therapies because it can be really costly. I think that this is the best way to treat addiction, but I can't completely say that it can fully treat addiction especially those people who are in severe cases of addiction. But, being open to your family, friends, and relatives will strengthen your support system in which will help in the process of battling your addiction. But again it is still advisable to seek professional help because that is still their expertise, and that they are the best people to ask for help because they have a wide knowledge about.

The gambler who get addicted into the gambling should be feel by themselves. So only they can do the therapy, but it’s hard for the gambler to understand they was in the addiction in gambling. If the student are the gambling addicted, the honest one is the student never share their parents about their gambling addiction. With out the proper knowledge how the student get usage of the therapy, the student only found by their parents by their activities. Then only the parent help the student to use to take the therapy. But if the gambling addict is the parents,he should take care themselves for the therapy expenses.Which not affect their children by their parents involvement.
Honesty is needed to admit their gambling addiction so they can be cured and undergo therapy. However, it is not easy for gambling addicts because it is like exposing their own shame to other people, which might not be good for them. But that is what must be done if a gambling addict wants to be cured so that he will not return to gambling or even gamble excessively. The student also needs to be honest with his parents so that his parents can immediately take him to a professional to get the necessary treatment. Even though these students will be scolded by their parents, that is the consequence because they have to be responsible for their parents.

Of course, because sometimes there are gamblers who want to recover but they are not fully open about what bad things they have done in gambling to people who want to help them recover, some experts who might help treat them will first see how big their addiction level is, and of course it is seen from how they do it and also by whether the way they do it is still reasonable or it is out of control. Well I understand as you said that they will at least feel embarrassed if they have to be honest about everything, but there is no other way, and I think if they really want to recover from their addiction then surely the embarrassment will not be too big a problem for them.

If indeed the student can be completely honest with his parents then surely the parents will act quickly and seek help according to what is needed, one of which might be to see a doctor or psychological specialist to cure his mindset. Rice has become porridge, there is no reason to be afraid of being angry, none other than for his own recovery.

It's a choice between spending money on therapy or finding ways to treat your gambling addiction without any cost. Many of us have battled with gambling addiction, and based on my personal experience, staying busy with other activities was key. If you solely focus on gambling, it's easy to become addicted, and it gets worse when you keep losing money. Some people even go to extremes, like selling their personal belongings or resorting to theft. Thankfully, I haven't been in that position.

Having friends and family is essential because a gambler can't overcome addiction alone. It's crucial to open up to them and spend time with them. Just being with loved ones can divert your attention from gambling, which is the root cause of the problem.

Although the approach may vary from person to person, it's always important not to fight this battle by yourself.

The mind is a very powerful and once it find it hard to let go of something it will forever be a magnet to that desire, I don't believe that any form of therapy will work on gambler who hasn't made up his own mind to give up on gambling, therapy can divert their attention on something else for the time being but it's not going to fix the problem completely because the mind still won't let go.

A gambler who Realize that he is an addicted gambler makes it easier to take control of himself from the habit before it's too late and this can't be put side by side with a gambler who never thinks that he is doing something wrong, even if their loved ones start telling them they are always ready to go against their loved ones.

Not until their journey turns out to be like that of the Prodigal Son in the Bible, they will now come back and admit they were wrong all this while, if you know what gambling is turning people into you will have some fear in you.

Any serious form of addiction should be treated with a therapy in my opinion. The risk of relapses are much higher if we didn't work with a professional. A big part of therapy is to learn how to deal with setbacks and not to fall into past behavior patterns again. Not every therapy is expensive, there is a difference between staying in a clinic or having a few hours per week sessions. In many countries you can also find support groups that will be free. Beating an addiction all on your own is difficult, better get help. Another form of treatment I learned about from my cousin. He was addicted to drugs for a longterm and normal therapy didn't work, so my uncle send him to a farm for addicts. It's much cheaper than a clinic because they have to work there and cook and clean for themselves. It took him two years to get fully clean, but now he lives a normal life again without addiction.

Every gambling addiction has a level, some at a low level are easier to cure and some at a very high level are rather difficult to cure, in fact many people always remind beginners on this forum not to gamble beyond their limits and always gamble within their control so as not to become addicted to gambling. addiction because if you have become an addict it will be difficult to recover.

Actually, this method of therapy is not completely successful, in fact my friend was able to recover completely without any therapy just by using techniques to reduce his gambling activities. For example, those who usually gamble try to reduce their gambling activities slowly, there is no need to rush to stop because it's like taking medicine and you won't get better straight away, believe me. in a slow process by slowly reducing gambling, this will usually reduce the desire to gamble, start from there and eventually you will be able to gamble with full control or may be completely cured of addiction.

Just remember that something might work for you or other person might not really effective to other that's why its hard to say its effective since there are people have different approach to combat addiction. But the least those people can do is to seek help to their family since they are the one who can really help you especially giving some good advice and do possible counter measure to help us out to get away on what heavily bothering us. We just need to be cooperative and accept all of this since if we are still denial about what issue we are facing on then their approach to help us might not be effective to us.

Either low cost or need a lot of money for therapy then all of it is fine since it will all depends on the person what is effective method for him, since the most important thing here is they can escape to this situation and find peace on their minds.

The money that the addicted person will use for their gambling activities can be used for therapy sessions, but that's not the point. I think if an addict acknowledges the fact that they are actually facing problems in their life and they want to stop gambling completely and are ready to cooperate in any way possible, a close friend or a family member can easily help them get out of the addiction by trying and keeping them away from gambling and gambling platforms.

One can find activities that the addict used to like before they got addicted to gambling and they can get them to start doing those things. It can be a game, a sport, going out, or anything in general that will divert their mind from gambling toward those things and they will gradually start forgetting about the gambling urge they used to have.

That's the point for those who are addicted to gambling to tell other people so they can think about how to do therapy, including finding a way to pay the costs. If people who are addicted to gambling are students, they can be honest with their parents, and their parents will help pay for the therapy. But it all depends on all parties who help gambling addicts because if this is a cost issue, it must be discussed in more detail so that everyone can know their solutions. A low-cost solution may require the gambling addict to start a new activity that can distract him from thinking about gambling. And the gambling addict has to do different things every day to stay busy in his new routine. And there will be no time to think about gambling because once he finishes all his new activities, he will feel tired and need to rest. But this requires support and encouragement from all those who want to help because gambling addicts cannot do it alone.

It will not work it is still addiction the gambler will find it interesting at first but he will eventually go back to what he loves the most and that's the casino where he thinks there is a lot of money to be made, Casino Players are like that they show interest on one game but eventually shifted to games that they've played for a long time, especially if they won big amounts on these games.
It's not even a cure its more of a shift but the player will eventually lose interest and go back to what gives him more excitement.
