Every once in a while, I buy some. That's why I always keep half an eye on it.
I did the same as you. Bought a bunch of it at 23 and 24. Deliberately forgot about it for a month or so. When I checked back about a week ago, it was above 90. By the time I moved my local wallet to the exchange, it got up to 100 just in time for me to sell. Quadruple what I paid for it not very long ago.
Sometimes (usually), it is best to NOT sell immediately after buying - even if the spread looks good. When a spread is good, it often gets better if you just leave it alone for a little while longer. Sometimes hours, sometimes months.
Some coins only fluctuate just enough so a trader is able to buy and then sell in the short term for just barely more than the fees each trade. 100 trades at that spread maybe makes 5% total net gain when it is all done. The same coin, you watch it go low then buy and hold for a week or two, and make a 100% gain because the fluctuation was bigger over a longer span of time and you only get the fees once for a single bigger trade, leaving more profit for the trader.
That fast-flip thing isn't always the best strategy, is what I'm saying.

and in the time it took me to type this, the n00bz I'm trying to educate have managed to undersell each other down and down for a 10% drop in price again. Hours of effort, spending my own coin to drive it up, plenty of education handed out for free

In the past 24 hours, doge went from 67 to 77 and back down to 73 currently. So, ignoring the peak in the middle, doge is actually UP more than 10% from 24 hours ago. How long would you have to leave money in a bank to get that kind of return based on interest rate? 15 years, maybe? As opposed to 1 day? From a coin that started out as a joke?
In August while a lot of investors were out on vacations and stuff and the prices were dropping, I had picked up some Doge at 23 and 35 as I believed prices would go up (not as much as it has though) within a week or two of Sept. Few weeks later. Nice little profit.
.. instead just let them run on scrypts. then to my surprise even sold the cards with profit and traded the shitcoins that were dying and started just trading. no more mining for me thank you. 
. when bitcoin crashed from 1200 downward.. was mining but everything went down .and made me loose some..(alot)
