For the 'POGTFO' crowd:

I'll look into getting the new CoinTerra rig added to our cgminer display on the OP (and iOS app) soon enough.  At the moment it is running via the built in network plug.

I think I like the graph the most, nice perspective!

p2pool update.

Almost all open file descriptors are coming from the same IP. I firewall this IP now to see if things get better. This might not be a attack but maybe a very stupid miner software that does not close connections to pool. For example maybe it creates a new connection for every "new work" but does not close old connection.

p2pool has a setting for max connections. But it does not work if the new connection is for the same IP as a existing connections. I will look at this more when I have time and send a patch to p2pool devs.

Fantastic!

And good news for p2pool as well. We (meaning all of p2pool) are struggling to stay above 100 TH.

Didja get it? Didja didja?

It has arrived and it is up and running on my local node!  Along with our other equipment, the node is now showing a 2.05TH/s reading!  That means we're getting about 1.65TH/s from the CoinTerra unit at this time (advertised at 2TH/s).  My initial thoughts are...  Regular people will not be mining with these in their homes.  This thing is as loud as a leaf blower and kicks off a ridiculous amount of heat.  I have it backed up to an open window at the moment until I have a solution in place.  I will have to rig up some kind of secondary exhaust system in the mining closet for this thing, as I think trying to fight this with our AC unit would be a losing battle.

I am quite pleased to bring NastyFans into the TH club.  Smiley   When I started Nasty Mining with the hope of reaching 25GH/s, I was overwhelmed by the support and ease at which the operation was able to grow.  As we approach surpassing the original goal by 100x on the way to reaching 1000x this summer, I can't help but smile at how far we have come.

I believe our p2pool node is victim to some attack. The file descriptor leak is now crazy. I wrote a script to monitor the number of open file descriptors and swap in a new p2pool process when the number gets big. This is only a quick hack to keep NastyPool up.

When I have time I will investigate the fd leak and if necessary fix it myself. It surprises me that more nodes are not victim to this.

Awesome.  It sounds like we're attracting some fans of our own.  Everybody wants in on our fun.   Grin

I've gotten a tracking number and I'll have the CoinTerra rig up and running Thursday evening (hopefully).

I would also like to initiate a poll to immediately change our distributions from the current 25/75 split between NastyFans/NastyMining to 50/50.

curious if you would be willing to move the 40 btc owed to yourself in the first loan to  the end of the second ? would be understandable if not since it was fully understood when the second loan was done that it was part of the first.. but just throwing ideas out there. lots of delays with the hardware shipping it seems (but bfl it was pretty much to  be expected...)  even something where you took your 40 and used it to buyout more people at 80% or something  just ideas!

I am always open to hearing offers for a deal that will benefit NastyFans.  However, I would much rather use the 40 BTC I will receive at the end of the first loan to install solar panels and ensure our operation can run without any costs indefinitely.

Keep in mind that we haven't yet received ANY of the equipment we used this debt to purchase and in spite of that, have already managed to pay back 130 BTC!
that's actually pretty sweet if you think about it...

Useful comments about the debt from OgNasty the last time this was discussed. Everyone should read or reread.

We should just keep paying it off  Tongue

We will most definitely continue paying it off.  The loans state that 25% of our mined coins will go towards the debt.  We have been sending 75% of not only mined coins, but donations from physical coin sales, and I also emptied our holdings account which was mainly funds leftover from the sales of our altcoins (that we will need to refill to pay for the rest of our 25mh/s scrypt miner) in order to realize 2 BTC in debt forgiveness for an immediate loan repayment.

A change to 50/50 is a win-win.  We double the amount of funds currently being sent to seat owners while maintaining a payout rate to lenders at more than double what was promised.

Keep in mind that we haven't yet received ANY of the equipment we used this debt to purchase and in spite of that, have already managed to pay back 130 BTC!

Some nastyfans.org updates:
  • theoretical total value use coindesk.com BPI
  • USD auction price chart use coindesk.com BPI
  • on home page you can click on minted seats number to see your minted seats and how much donations is on hold for each
  • non-members see a message how many days left until account automatically terminated

I would also like to initiate a poll to immediately change our distributions from the current 25/75 split between NastyFans/NastyMining to 50/50.

I can start a membership opinion poll. If we see majority for 50/50 change I will consider start a poll to change policy.

I request that you (OgNasty) abstain from membership opinion poll.

Big news from BFL that effects us extremely positively.   Grin

It appears we will not only receive 9 - 1TH/s Imperial Monarchs, but we will also receive 9 - 600GH/s Monarchs at the end of their shipping queue.  The reduction in power usage is also extremely positive for our future.

This announcement brings our BFL equipment on order to 14.4TH/s, with an anticipated arrival date of late April for the first 9TH/s.

04 March 2014 - Monarch Update

Power & Performance better than expected
The initial power consumption numbers for Monarch are in and they're about 20% better than anticipated, meaning we expect the Monarch to consume 0.45W/GH at the chip level. This translates to about 300W per 600GH at the wall. Chip performance of all systems is as good as or better than predicted. To put this in perspective, this makes the Monarch chip nearly twice as power efficient as compared to our 28nm competition whose products operate between 0.9 and 1.0w per GH at the wall.

Chip Delay
The initial batch that we currently have in hand is not suitable to ship to customers. This is due to a problem in a top metal layer of the chip that prevents some engines from initializing when the chip is first powered on. (With ASIC design, there are a number of layers to a chip; most of those layers are in silicon, but the last few layers are in a special type of metal. Subsequent batches were held in wait just prior to the metal layers so that we could affect any necessary changes and proceed with chip production from that point, drastically reducing the time it takes to bring a new batch of chips to life.) The problem was positively identified and the fix is already in progress; however it will take approximately 5 weeks before we get packaged chips in hand, meaning the deployment of the Monarch will be delayed about 5 weeks from now. The specific date is still being determined, but I wanted to get an update out as soon as possible.

Refunds & Delay Compensation
Because of the delay, we're offering several different forms of compensation that vary based on order pricing and order date:

Free performance upgrades
All customers who ordered 600GH Monarchs prior to the price decrease on November 28, 2013 will be upgraded to the Imperial Monarch product, which is a new, high performance version of the card. The Imperial Monarch will operate at 1 TH/s (+ / - 20%).

Six Month Refund or Double Shipment Guarantee
If you’ve been waiting in queue for six months or more, you qualify for either a full refund in USD, OR double the hardware you ordered. This latter option will come in the form of (a) first shipping you the new Imperial Monarch, giving you an expected 160-175% of your ordered hashrate, and then (b) an additional Standard 600 GH Monarch at the end of the queue, giving you another 100% hashrate boost, totaling an expected 250+% of your ordered hashrate once all products have shipped. (Note: Electing the refund cancels the Imperial Monarch upgrade offer in the first section above.)

Awesome!!!

I'm onboard with moving to 50/50.  I am curious to know how much was raised so far under the 75/25 split.  I know I can figure it out for myself but I'm being lazy!

Is there something wrong with the pool? ... my client has been failed over for approximately 20hrs now

Indeed. p2pool software appears to have file descriptor leak and hit the process limit. I restarted p2pool on nastyfans.org. I will keep my eye on this. Thank you for reporting.

There are apparently several leaks in p2pool.  On my node I have cron set up to restart it once a week.
