When I started gambling my mindset is solely about winning some cash to better my life but the more I gamble, the more that idea shifts. The money no longer satisfies my initial goal but the idea of winning does.

But even with those ideals in play, why would a millionaire start gambling in the first place?

so why would a rich athlete or politician become so addictive to gambling?

I think socialization+joy+drinking+gambling is satisfaction to them. What do you think?

Exactly right, and you've made a great observation. Gambling captivates not just because of potential financial gain but due to the exhilaration it brings. This excitement can attract anyone, regardless of their financial status. It's the combination of thrill, the social atmosphere, and the joy of the game that really draws people in.

Well, you've got a different mindset than the majority but no matter what shift you do as you gamble, it all ends up still with money. Winning = money.

But even with those ideals in play, why would a millionaire start gambling in the first place?
It's for fun, they've got a lot of hectic days and stress in their jobs or businesses so they find a way to release those stress and one of it is through gambling.

so why would a rich athlete or politician become so addictive to gambling?
Aside from gambling, it's the socializing that they're getting in the premises of the casino. The network and connection that they're getting is somehow I can think of why they become addicted to it. But they are having hard time to avoid addiction if they're going to do it as most times.

I think socialization+joy+drinking+gambling is satisfaction to them. What do you think?
Yeah, as I have said. Those are part of it when these millionaires, athletes and magnates does gambling. It's not just all about gambling and having fun and being entertained but more of those socializing that they're getting and as well as the ambiance and treatment that they're getting there.

A millionaire and Politician can gamble and they could.be doing it for the money but their desperation is not as high as that of a ordinary person because they have plenty of alternatives to make money from, unlike an ordinary person that is gambling to make money to eat or make money to pay bills and also take care of other people especially if he is married. A politician already has all of this, he is not gambling to sort basic needs but prefer to just add to his riches.

Most of the time, if you are gambling to make ends meet or perhaps you don't have much to take care or basic tings, you are likely to become addicted to gambling because your mind will always be on every game that you play, you will likely feel discomfort and when you lost, you feel it badly.
There is a big difference between the gambling management of people of high social class such as big businessmen or politicians and the gambling management of ordinary people. If a politician or businessman loses his money in gambling, even if he loses at that high rate, he will not suffer as much humanly as an ordinary gambler would feel. Those who in the rich class expect to win from their gambling and some increase in their wealth but a typical gambler sees a big change in their life from gambling. Gamblers who try to change their lives spend a lot of time in gambling for little money. They basically become addicted gamblers. I think addiction is created when a gambler tries to increase his money by winning more.

The reality is that most gamblers, and specially the most addicted ones, are usually people without much money to begin with.

Most millionaires would rarely gamble. As you mention, there's little point for them to do that.

They can instead enjoy many other activities with the money they have.

Gambling is basically paying for chasing the fantasy of becoming a millionaire, which they already are.
I have to agree on your point. While gambling also entertain us, but majority still gamble to make money, and you won’t expect for millionaires still aim to make more money as they have it already. So what they are looking for is purely to have fun and relieve theirselves from stress, and once they get over it, they will not gamble more often, hence they are not prone to addiction.

But for low income earners, they gamble to make money. But the more they gamble, the bigger the losses they’ve been acquired. Eventually, if they lose their self-control and discipline, then gambling addiction will follow.

I think the idea of winning could be appealing to everyone. Just the thought that you’ve won something of value irrespective of the amount of money or the prize itself makes one feel good.
I think rich folks who gamble do so likely for the thrill of winning and to socialize with other rich folks, creating connections to increase their wealth.

The prospect of winning more money is also appealing, even for rich people and in the quest for more money, they get addicted and run into gambling debts.

You're spot on, it's not just about the money, but the thrill of winning that keeps people hooked on gambling. It makes sense that even those who already have plenty, like millionaires or athletes, get caught up in it. It's more about the excitement and the social buzz around gambling than anything else.
Sometimes it isn't even about the winning, it's about the that feeling of wanting to win and the believe that on every next try there is a possibility that one could actually win so that's just the case with gambling there is the believe that if I go or play again I might win and this is basically the error that leads to someone being addicted. Then when you eventually get the win one or two times you come so totally tied up to the feeling and it never stops at all.

I think for someone who has a lot of money, such as politicians, artists, rich people, it depends on their environment and friends. Usually they use gambling and drinking alcohol and so on as a cover to run business and increase relationships, what is worse is drug use and leads to sex too. Obviously it's fun, and will continue to happen because it has become a tradition.

For most people addicted to gambling, it's actually about the money.
There are other forms of addictions where there are no chance of making money, but people still get hooked to these things because they derive pleasure from it.
There are those who are gambling for the pleasure it gives to them. They can be rich, and not so concerned about the money from it, they just gamble because they like the feeling it gives them, they may not mind gambling on illegal sports too. This category of gamblers are within the highs of the society, they are politicians, celebrities, children of bloody rich men etc.

Let us put it this way, every gambler has their own reasons or causes why they are into gambling. Rich or just regular gambler, we can't pinpoint their major reasoning but more than likely it falls to the following aspects : money, socialization, fun/entertainment, not to feel lonely, exposure to gambling, substance abuse, among others.

Whatever their motivation in gambling, it depends also on their financial goals or financial constraints. Because even if you want to bet in high stakes but you have no financial capability to fund such bet, what will you do? Borrow money or just use the money that you have?

For most people addicted to gambling, it's actually about the money. Because most people aren't rich, the vast majority of people that spend too much for their needs in gambling are the ones thinking they might catch a lucky break from their misery through gambling as an activity.

So yes, the money does play a role in most people's gambling habit, especially if they are a problem gambler. Because the rich and especially those that have money generating assets, don't need to be a so called "problem gambler" because they can replenish their wealth and continue living a comfortable life pretty easily. It's mostly the poor that are judged as problem gamblers because for them they spend too much and then they can't afford food let's say.

Gambling does not always revolve around money. To those who actively participate in it, the thrill and adrenaline that you get from such activities are beyond measure, unlike any other. This is seen as entertainment or a method of getting away from pressure and duties associated with their elevated status and lifestyle. However, involvement with friends can be a key element too. Gamblers often belong to the same social groups who partake in gambling as a way of life. Involving activities like drinking and socializing while playing can be a form of bonding with their peers and experiencing membership in a distinct group.

The problem of gambling addiction is not just a matter of getting fun from entertainment. Psychological factors, such as an adrenaline rush or the excitement of winning, are also involved in maintaining compulsive gambling. However, it is fair to say that socializing, having fun, and drinking may be one aspect of something bigger.

But even with those ideals in play, why would a millionaire start gambling in the first place?
Each person can have a different goal when he/she plays gambling. Not everyone plays gambling for money purpose only. Some people gamble for fun, they like gambling because they get entertainment while they are trying luck to earn money as the bonus. A millionaire may be interested in gambling because he/she wants to have some fun with gambling games. Sure, they don't deny the prizes but it won't be everything for them because they have enough money.

so why would a rich athlete or politician become so addictive to gambling?
It is because they gamble excessively. If an athlete or politician have played gambling games daily without a limit, it is easy to be addicted. Basically, it is about how they gamble, it is not about their profession as an athlete or politician. Everyone who gamble with inappropriate ways, they can be addicted to gambling. So, makes sure that we apply the way in gambling.

But even with those ideals in play, why would a millionaire start gambling in the first place?
Gambling is not determined if you're rich or poor. If a Richman decided to gamble, it's just for him to make extra cash to his existing business by adding value to his money . But along the line of gambling he becomes addicted to it, instead of winning, he loses more. Some rich men has gone broke due to gambling today and some will never learn.

so why would a rich athlete or politician become so addictive to gambling?
Because they want to double their hustle. Everyone feels thesame thing  when they want too I crease their

No amount of money is always enough for most persons, so even though they are rich, they would still want to double their money, however gambling isn't for only rich people, it's for every class of persons in the society. Addiction can affect anybody in the society, or do you think addiction should be solely for the low income earnings in our society?, I believe your answer should be NO.

Socialization brings awareness to everybody not only the rich, however people gambling for different reasons, some to double their money while others do it for fun.
OP, You get me confused when you said the money no longer satisfies your initial goal, but winning does, so when you win is it not the same thing as earning more money and using it to better your life just as you said or is there any more purpose that winning serves you that we don't know?

They are rich, risking their money when gambling is not much of an issue for them, so yeah, I agree, a lot rich people gamble for the sole purpose of entertainment, thrill, socialization, etc... but I am pretty sure that there are still rich people who gambles because they want to gain profit from gambling and they find joy from increasing their wealth through gambling.

OP is right about the money not being the fuel of addicts in the long run.

People usually start with money it's the main goal at first and the reason they try so hard. Then it becomes a form of spending free time. Winning helps, but the games are constructed in such way that it's almost impossible to keep losing. Usually gamblers are at a loss but it's a small one so they keep playing ending a few sessions with a profit and then a few at a loss, but that profit keeps them in the game because a bankrupt gambler will not return.

When you win your brain releases endorphins and you get that feeling of happiness combined with a sense of accomplishment. That's what gets really makes people come back to the game even after a losing streak.

If it is land based casinos, socialization is among the reasons you will see rich men that are gambling. But some rich people also prefer online gambling and that can not just be because of socialization if the rich person only prefer to gamble online and prefer privacy. A rich person that is addicted to going is because he is not able to discipline himself and such addiction is not good at all because it is possible for a rich man to become poor.

Socialization is an advantage that online casinos don't have and when people include socialization as one of their gambling goals then yes most likely they will prefer to engage in physical casinos over online casinos, you will meet a lot of people where you can also share experiences or tell stories while betting along with enjoying a bottle of wine, this is fun for some people. On the other hand, I don't know if rich people are more involved in online or physical gambling, but I'm sure that there are some of them who gamble and are involved in both types of gambling.

One of the reasons why someone prefers to engage in online casinos may be that they are one of those people who are always closed or always prioritize privacy when doing anything regardless of whether they are rich or poor, but yes however the most important thing is to have the ability to maintain, manage and control their gambling activities properly regardless of whether you are rich or poor and also regardless of where you gamble, because the point is of course that the rich can become poor and the poor may have an increasingly worrying life if they cannot treat their gambling activities properly.

This is true and probably happens to lots of gamblers.
At some point winning becomes more important than the money. The money being a consequence
They want to be right. The money is just a thrill, something that spices up the deal to hook’em

It's not really about the money you hold that will help you get addicted to gambling, whether you are rich or poor. As long as you don't have self-control and are too greedy, there is nothing that will stop you from getting addicted.

Even those who are politicians, who most times just use gambling as a means to clear their heads and get social interaction, once they get too comfortable with the game and start taking it very seriously and accepting challenges, it won't be long for them to get addicted to the game. Their status can't prevent them from getting addicted; it's their own desires and decisions that have an effect on what their gambling behaviour will lead to.
