I'm not sure what gave you that impression but governments can most definitely not stop Bitcoin otherwise they already would have. They've tried though believe me. Now they're just trying to cause misinformation in the media. That's all they have left lol.

I think governments can stop bitcoin as long we have a stable internet we can have the stability and safety, maybe they can free us from economies controlled by the governments or banks. Governments will not be able to stop us.

I think some corrupt government official will do. Because bitcoin don't have tax at all.
Exactly! I think there is no point of stopping this trade of Bitcoin by any government in any country. In fact, the Government should take the positive steps and it should legalize this crypto currency so that it can work out in a better way. I think this is just a false hypothesis and I don’t think this will ever happen, still a good hope for bitcoins in future.

This is a serious discussion. I mean, after I've seen how bitcoin (and other cryptos as well) got dumped badly after an irrelevant law that makes ICOs illegal. I can only imagine now what would happen If more countries do the same thing and It could get worst by make itself bitcoin illegal. Whether we like to admit it or not, most of people would sell everything they have once its made illegal, some may continue to fight the central banking but the sad reality is that as soon as people start making profits, they will dump it and move on.

What is really happening is a form of set back and short lived victory for government because deep down within, they will start rejoicing that a policy like this a go a long way in crashing the price but little did they know that this is another one of their arsenal let out of the bag and the fall in price is a form of retreat in other to come back stronger against gimmicks like this.

korea had already declared ICO bann. but it seem not affecting at all. not a news that we'd buy right? soon the news about more countries banning BTC and ICOs might just be ignored. and investors will just go on without even leaving a comment.

the only reason  why they panic is because chinese investors have no balls. SNM will shine.

I think it possibly happen if there are people who abuse Bitcoin that should not be done. If governments together banning ICO like what china does or banning altcoins that possibly can make bitcoin also dissappear.

Governments can definitely stop bitcoin because they have the power to command all its citizen and there is nothing can prevent that and the only choose of the citizens in their country is to obey on what the government says so it is really possible for the government to stop and eliminate bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.
And you think if my own government is so stupid enough to ban bitcoin due to their own selfish desires, I will be so stupid enough not to leave their country for them? As long as not all government all over the world will lay a ban on bitcoin(which I feel is the only effective way to destroy bitcoin but impossible), I will gladly find a bitcoin supporting country to go and invest. Apparently, my country does not deserve my tax.

Actually government can do that, as we observed now more countries are making this legal and the time will come that government will take controlled with bitcoin. Once it is abuse by the authorities, a big possibilities that it could affect bitcoin investors and crypto changers relationships with the government and war begin, possibilities that will it make crypto world down.
It is sounds good to hear only that bitcoin was being legalized in some other country. But for me it is not good due to once bitcoin become legal in the country from Decentralization of bitcoin it can possibly change into centralization and if that happened it will be a bad news for us to hear that.
It is not easy to convert the decentralized nature of bitcoins into centralized one simply by making them legal. Many countries like Japan, America etc are still not able to regulate bitcoins though they have legalized them for the betterment of their public. Bitcoins are the best ever digital creation and I am pretty sure that it is going flourish even more in the coming months and years.

I think that governments can not stop bitcoin because it is an uncontrolled currency and while the Internet exists, users will be able to use crypto-currencies.

Absolutely true. One can't ban a decentralised Project like cryptos.

The USE of bitcoin and cryptos instead might get banned. This can happen when governments can't regulate in a way they want it to.

It makes no doubt, governments can forbid to use Bitcoins. But the idea of Bitcoin is that it is supranational currency that is not controlled by the government.

if governments are all going to treat BTC illegal then we all are going to go underground  Grin there ain't going to stop BTC its price may dip to the very low but it will eventually rise from its ashes particularly to those who just keep themselves online. BTX better for those who hold and keep using it. Those who were dumping deserves to have no opportunity on crypto.

Government can ban the bitcoin so maybe it can be the way for them to make it illegal in other country.  Government can't control bitcoin but they can make it illegal so you stop using bitcoin.  Sad
Governments cannot stop bitcoins although they are taking interest into it so that in their countries this can be started. So this is impossible to ban such a valuable coin which start giving you profit on the next moment of buying and this can bring money to their region also.

i am sure that government can stop bitcoin because they have their power to do anything they want but if they see bitcoin can give benefits for the economic of their country, i think they will considering to learn more about bitcoin. i think they will approve bitcoin to be legal in their country and who knows bitcoin will be integrated with their system for better economic.

If I ask you seem to have a hard time getting the government to stop the bitcoins. Especially now it's a solid one. And many people remain faithful to it. And the only possible thing to do to get it totally illegal is if it's something wrong do. We can do the example is the Fall of the banks. And if this happens they'll probably stop. But it still can not be terminated.

I think its not our fault why the banks will fall because of cryptocurrencies or bitcoin. They have held our money long enough and pushed us to the edge. I can't even call my money mine because it's their possession. The very paper and layers of it are all government property. And they are just afraid because these "crypto will replaced them". And yes they have the power to ban it and exterminate it but this is clear, the system is twisted and unfair. We are being patience long enough, let's pushed this technology together and see be a one decentralized system.

It'll never be illegal... the government needs to develop laws in this industry and make it more regulated... that's it

The value of bitcoin does drop after ICO ban in China but that doesn't mean that it has already been shut down. First of all bitcoin and all other cryptocurrencies are decentralized meaning the government can't control them. There is no stopping bitcoin now as more and more user will see its potential.

Yes,of course, bitcoin's price faced a slight fall due to china's actions. But we should also take in to account that bitcoin recovered very soon and its now $4,153.Also,we could not expect all the countries to have the same idea as china regarding bitcoin.Even its neighbours japan, south korea, vietnam takes completely different stand about bitcoin. Most of the governments are in an idea to only welcome this innovative technology bitcoin. So,there is no such threats to be worried about.

Shutdown Bitcoin??? LOL Grin? What do you know about decentralization network of blockchain technology used in Bitcoin system? A decentralization can not shutdown easily like your said, even no one can does that, unless the Bitcoin community completely accept offline down Bitcoin system and do not want to use it.
Haha. The only way to stop bitcoin right now is to shut down the internet. Without the internet, no one can control their bitcoin. But after all, there will be someone turn the Internet on and bitcoin will become back to normal. As long as the internet keeps staying here, Bitcoin will still survive and being used as digital gold

Governments can't control Bitcoins because of its decentralised nature. However what powers the transactions are the massive mining farms which consume huge amounts of electricity.

If the decision to ban BTC is made, I would think the way to stop it would be to go after the mining farms first, next find a way to stop the biggest gateways which allow users to convert fiat money into cryptocurrency.

Once the transaction time (and cost) goes high up and users are unable to easily convert fiat to crypto - we are in serious trouble!

The possibility exists but I think the government is more concerned with the potential of bitcoin, this coin can actually be invited to follow the taxation rules given every bitcoin is converted into fiat, the government is not easy to make illegal bitcoin because they will be left very far when bitcoin legalized by other major countries

I agree with your point but I think governments always find ways to unite together for common causes (the survival of their system is a big cause). I believe in the end it will be impossible for governments to control something that they didn't issue to people.

For them Bitcoin is a nightmare because it has the potential to take away one of the most powerful tools they use to manage their citizens and the number one priority for all governments around the world is ensuring they have control.

If the law will be pushed hardly then it's possible. Also prior to the approval of the law, it was being discussed and put on trial by the majorities for long period of time. Meaning the ban was carefully analyzed and they study well why it should be banned. If that is the case then people have no choice but to deal with that since after all, it was a decision of the majority.

But if we take it today, it was unlikely to happened or let's say it has low chance. So rather we think of that, just enjoy the current phase of bitcoin and take advantages.
