Btw, @op don't you think your giveaway can be abused since you are giving merits to newbie rank for simple task?

No, it isn't abuse for them to receive a reward for doing a task, it's participation.  Only 2 Newbies/Jr Members have managed to do it yet anyway, so it seems that maybe to them it isn't such a simple task.

I meant, this can be used to farm accounts but from the looks of it, that doesn't seem to the case, so whatever.

Dust attacks are likely to occur more often, having shitcoins or coins with less value sent to you as it can happen to just anyone within the cryptosphere. The dangers of it is constituted in your trying to accumulate these series of shitcoins or low value coins to previously accumulated once hereby, creating a link or chain of wallets and possibly, there could be an unofficial flaw in your set-up which they capitalize on.
Dust Attack, what it is, why it is dangerous and how to prevent falling to it. Open Coin Control feature, learn to use it and do what Ognasty discussed can help.  Smiley

So in your opinion, the education provided by the OP is useful or not? And what kind of task is better done?
I think if someone already knows how to use something, it will be easy for him. It was different if he didn't realize that even small things would be difficult because of his ignorance.
And I think the OP's point is not easy or not to make a signed message, but how to educate those who don't know how to do it by learning and finding out how.

It seems like a nice initiative but I just read about dust attacks, isn't it unsafe to post addresses here and there so that people associate the address with your username?
If the idea is to be anonymous, why publish addresses?

I know how to sign from an address, I have Electrum installed and I don't need merit. I have enough and I can't even spend them all.
Well, it does no harm to post your wallet address. It's more like your local bank account number which, you can just give it out to just anyone and everyone with little or nothing to fear. Hence, there is really nothing wrong in doing that. Besides, how do you expect to receive if you don't give up your address. I get you being scared but the point is;
Dust attacks are likely to occur more often, having shitcoins or coins with less value sent to you as it can happen to just anyone within the cryptosphere. The dangers of it is constituted in your trying to accumulate these series of shitcoins or low value coins to previously accumulated once hereby, creating a link or chain of wallets and possibly, there could be an unofficial flaw in your set-up which they capitalize on.
Again as per having a enough merit, it's good that you don't base your effort on accumulating them but, having a lot more if possible isn't a bad idea and you should. For that which is enough today, might turn out to be less significant tomorrow.
Give it a trier and sign up.

I tried to sign a bitcoin address message (Segwit) for the first time using Coinomi (after reading this post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.54711272).
I haven't tried using other wallets to verify it.

So far no Newbies or Jr Members have provided a signed message.  I gave out a few merit to Members to try and get the ball rolling, but would love to see some Newbies provide a signed message.
Thank you.

Dust attacks isn't really a thing.  There is nothing forcing you to ever spend the dust, so as long as you know how to properly manage your wallet and not include dust in your transactions, there is no harm.

Linking a Bitcoin address to your username doesn't seem unsafe to me and you could always use a new address for this single task.

The idea behind Bitcoin isn't to be anonymous.

I'm asking users to publish a signed message for their own educational purpose, providing them with merit as a reward for doing so.
Thank you for the note too. I will only use this address for sign message. For others I will create another wallet.

Feels free not to join when you are not need it.

However, if you want to stay anonymous then generated a new address and sign a message with a message like this.

"This sign's message only to prove my self can do sign message, I'm not using this address anymore after posting it (Only for educational purpose).

-snip- BTW, I found that Bitcoin Core cannot sign using native segwit addresses (bc1...). Somebody should implement that. -snip-
You cannot sign messages using the SegWit address on Bitcoin Core. I've also tried it.

-snip-

I have also asked about this issue. Here's the answer from achow101:

There is no solution and you cannot sign a message with a segwit address. This has been the case since segwit was introduced. See https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/10542

This reminds me of my This is not a stake your Bitcoin address here thread, but an interesting reminder Xmas thread, where I focused on remembering how to sign a message. Having and incentive to do so on the entry level Beginners & Help is very interesting from a learning point of view. I’m really looking forward to see how many (genuine) Newbies & Jr. Members manage to do it, alongside the Q&A and situations this could lead to here on this thread.
