For the rest sky (your total received merits/2+ merit source allowance) is the limit!

This is no news although you're advice to avoid patronizing such act because if caught, you'll lose but your funds (to the merit seller) and probably get demerited (lose your merit). Try carrying out some personal investigate to get the culprits behind the merit selling and report to the forum and they might just get punished, as this act is currently been frowned at.
Merit are might to serve as a motivation to the user been merited, an indication of quality, which is gained and not some privilege you can buy off the internet.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
- Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
- Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

In the joy of completing 10 years of Bitcointalk, make all newbie members a junior member
My two cents:- There is no joy to help shitposters rank up (I don't say you are shitposter, I just say about the general fact) so no one will help you a single merit for that post. It takes the forum (with merit system, rank requirements and community help) about two years to gradually wipe out shitposters. There is no joy to help shitposters growing again.
- Two years ago, I began as a newbie like you, and now I am on my way to the Legendary rank.
You can do it, if:
- Don't beg for merits
- Learn, improve, and contribute to the forum, community in right way.
