Well, theymos received the Merits in this thread in a form of appreciation for implementing the Merit System which brought a smile on many members on this forum.
Yeah, but that was quite some time ago, and I don't think people realized the importance of the merit system in the first few days of its implementation.  Tons of merits were being handed out for posts that were kind of meh.

Me, I can't see giving merits to Theymos--or satoshi for that matter.  As a merit source, I try to reserve my sMerits for lower-ranked members, though it's not always easy to find good posts written by them.  When I see a very well thought out post, it's usually written by a Hero or Legendary member.  Perhaps I need to do some more digging and reading, but it's frustrating.

If you don't find where to spend merits, then spend it on theymos' posts.
I wouldn't advise this, though I have no issue with the quality of his posts.  I think merits should be distributed to members who need them to rank up, provided the posts are worthy.  I have no problem meriting a Legendary member for a fantastic post, but I try to do that sparingly.

Why give @theymos so much Merit in this post? Huh He has no need for it  Grin Grin Grin

Keep those Merits for us!

Well, theymos received the Merits in this thread in a form of appreciation for implementing the Merit System which brought a smile on many members on this forum.

So keeping aside the fact that theymos is the Admin and the root of this forum and doesn't need the Merits, on the other side the fact is all these Merits that he received in this thread is for implementing such a great idea with the Merit System which would eventually help this forum to grow more and reduce spam at some extent.

In-fact, like others members did, even i would have thrown a Merit over here if i had one, no doubt.

They say that to quell the beast, the sources must supply it with merit for each new feature created. 'Tis a curse and a blessing indeed.
Also, we should give thanks or appreciate all of the efforts of the admin for maintaining and sustaining our community through different systems. Theymos is still a member of the community, he can receive merits even though he's our admin and besides, we are the one to decide where those merits will go.

If you don't find where to spend merits, then spend it on theymos' posts.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"

big, because it's a long snip

Well,
this was an interesting point.
JJG, you made me reconsider  the Cockiness of my "Self made Hero Member +merits - activity" personal tex , so I decided to change it to something more humble and respectful for other members.
No sarcasm, true story.

Fair enough.  I do understand that it can feel quite good to receive merits from other members, yet it also seems that the number of merits next to your name does kind of speak for itself - and surely some research can be done to clarify, too regarding whether the merits next to the name of any member were received by airdrop or through other members after the merit system implementation.

I am glad that you considered my opinions and found them helpful, and truly I will not be offended if you were to reverse yourself and decide to go back to your earlier mantra, either.

There seems to be 2 schools of thought regarding this.

One is what you're saying, and indeed I would rather give a merit to someone who is still trying to rank up than a Legendary. However, I do give out more merits to Legendaries than I should, simply because I tend to interact with them more, as the crowd I roll with.

The other is that Legendaries get more merits than they should simply because they are Legendaries... As I type that I realize it doesn't make much sense, but that's what some people truly believe.
I think it depends if the Merit sender is short on Merit or not. If you're not a Merit source, I can imagine you prefer to send the few sMerit to a user who "needs" it (as long as their posts are good). But if you're loaded in sMerit and have a hard time trying to use them all, you can just as well send them to Legendary users too.

However, since I've received Merit from 413 unique users, and I had a Legendary rank already when Merit was introduced, it's safe to say many users Merit higher ranks too.

On which ways is there possible to get the marit points? I'd like to merit someone right now but don't have points - so in this case I can not merit him? Right?
Merit, not marit.
In order to get merits, you have to publish something helpful. One of the most important thing that contribute to quality of your posts is your language.
There are two main places for you to get merits:
- Your local board: in which you can use your local language. It will be easier for you, but there are some boards that have not yet had merit sources. Merit circulation in those boards is less actively than boards that have merit sources.
- Beyond local board: It means you will have to use English for your posts. If you have good idea, but your posts are written in English-broken, they will be useless.
There are some good English books for you (in case you do not have good English skills).

Reading just the first rows of the first post of this thread would answer this question.
Why should I bother explaining you, when you don't put the minimum required effort?

Also the weird logic: you want to send merits, but you don't know how to receive merits in the first place.

After carefully reading that post, you may head to one of the many guides on how to get merits in the Beginners and Help Sections:

Make good posts, contribute, be an actual member of the forum and people will merit you. Obly here for the bounties and spam? Then good luck.

If you want to merit someone you need to get merits yourself first. For every 2 merits you get, you can give 1 merit.

On a general note, these guys (legendary users) are presume to not need merit just because they have achieved the highest rank possible, merit can get them. Therefore must of their quality contributions goes unrewarded which shouldn't be so. Give them a break.
Anyway, I don't comment in this thread much, and I don't remember how I got here, but I'm sending you a merit for your post.

Neither do I but once in a blue moon i view the thread to see if there's any discussion in need of my input or a confused newbie seeking for clarification. Just hope that reply of mine puts them back on track. So the meriting was it because the post deserve one or you just felt like sending me one because that's how you sounded like Grin. Seems you're very active (meriting) but we just encountered for the first time.

Instead of wasting your time debating on legendary users with or without merit, why not forcus that energy into building your account?
This is the reason I edited my post with this note

The message wasn't intended for you since you werent on the supporting side of the discussion like the newbies thinking the legendary member don't deserve their rank just because they haven't earned any merit.

I am a newbie here. Hope I can rise up in rank in no time. Any suggestion from old members here? Thanks
Welcome, rising in this forum is dependent on you and your attitude, character and zeal. There is no rising without reasoning and knowledge. Avoid repeating  questions post for example let this be the first and last time you make this type of post(it will only fill up your post count and post history matters in your rising).
Don't just make a post for merit alone there are possibilities that you might flop at it. Make a post to your understanding or wanting to know more. Merit is never scarce it's only that merit deserving post from newbies are fast running out of gas.

I am out of the endless discussion, because merit system will be here, will work as we have all seen, there is no need to discuss about merit system and request to lessen rank requirements.

As they always say. Contribute here on the forum

Share your knowledge regarding cryptocurrency if you are an expert on it however, if you are a newbie like me then you must read some helpful threads on this forum first and forget ranking up for the meantime. Old members and even new members contributed here on the forum in their own ways so you can do it too but not now. Don't rush on ranking up, rush up on getting information and then help here Wink
