lot of things are prohibited by the catholic church but they are doing it. priest even violating laws like raping the nuns, some gotten pregnant but it seems fine to their archdiocese.

if members are not allowed to gamble, they'd find out the whole city wouldn't go in the church anymore and they will not collect fundings from its members. catholic church is the most hypocrite church in the world.

If this thread is going to devolve into what the church can and can't or shouldn't do, then let me chip in by telling you what they should do. They should pay taxes! Do you know that churches in US could reduce the average american taxpayer's burden by nearly $90 billion us dollars?

At the beginning of the pandemic they tried to claim they should be allowed to stay open because they are an 'essential business.' But they don't want to pay taxes like an essential business. Doesn't seem right to me.

The fact is, most religions frown upon gambling, and yet nearly everybody has gambled at some point. There's almost no point even mentioning it to followers anymore.
Didnt expect for them to claim about being an essential business which it isnt supposed to be that way but we cant really escape into that reality and if they do accumulate that much then it is really worth for them to get taxed.About on most religions frown about gambling then its just already  a common word that came from them.People do get used to it already and you do say that majority might
already had the experience on playing gambling. This might be  little off topic but really worth to be discussed.

One side of gambling which is hardly discussed anywhere is a collecting, collecting of new sensations. Someone’s collecting stamps,  others collect  coins, me is collecting feelings. And the key in this processes  is not to become addicted to gambling. So I'm periodically forcing myself to stop for some time.

When you are forcing yourself to stop, sooner or later, you will be able to stop gambling anytime because your mind will say that it is enough to play gambling for that day. But it is hard to stop when we can enjoy the games, not just gambling games, but in other things, so forcing yourself will be a good way to prevent the addicting.

If we try to collect the new sensations in gambling, I am afraid that we can get tempted to play more and more. So that can make us spend more money, which can lead to losing more money.

I never know Tesla was that of a gambling addict though we still has to owe him the things we used right now even the telecommunication space and the internet. I think there's still mind blowing facts out there to dig I'll just keep this thread bookmarked. Kudos to OP for this list of facts.

I think that this about Tesla still isn't proven to be mith or truth so I"m not so sure about his gambling addiction. However, many great people had many not so usual and surprising habits. No matter the Tesla I'm sure there are so many other mind blowing facts about gambling.

The Nevada State Prison Used to Have a Casino for Inmates.
~
Gambling is such a huge industry in Nevada that even the state prison had a casino inside it for 35 years. That's right: inmates could play blackjack, craps, poker, and even bet on sports inside the "Bullpen," a stone building on the prison's grounds in Carson City from 1932 to 1967. A new warden from California shut it down that year, saying gambling was a "degradation" to the inmates. - Source

I know it is happening in prison but I never thought they will create a space and a table for them.
Could be big profits for the warden just setting this up.  Grin

Well, even if they shut it down they can still make it happen.
Gamblers will always find their way.  Cheesy

This is amazing story, and it's amazing what was allowed before in some states.
I am sure that warden had his share, and the entire state, it's better to be legal and taxed than illegal and with crime involved. People who wish to gamble will do it anyway, why to not have some benefits from that. I will research more about this prison and
what was happening there, seems like an fascinating story.

Number 35 is kinda great, I mean his run towards those million dollar winnings is far more interesting story, than those people who win in just one shot. And although, that downfall of him is kind of quick, I still don't feel bad 'bout him, dunno why exactly though  Grin, maybe am that amazed on his journey. Besides, that man (Archie Karas), isn't type of guy who goes crazy, insane or whatever gestures a typical man usually went to when the odds goes against them.

By the way, nice interesting facts!!

Lots of fun facts to read but I am more interested in this.

32. After Russia outlawed virtually all gambling in 2009. A Russian engineer learned how to cheat slot machines. He took his knowledge to the U.S. and won $21,000. Casinos still have no fix for it. Source
Imagine that engineer sharing all his knowledge to someone and use that kind of trick to any slot machines? The fact that no one knows how to fix it yet is a threat to their business. I wonder if they could find someone is cheating so they could ban that person from playing again. Huh

Yes, they still do. As long as it's voluntarily given and they have decided to accept it, they will. There could be some protocols on their management or organization to ask where the donation came from but, they can also just accept it without further interrogation from the donator.

These days some charities are now being investigated, not just the church, for accepting all kinds of dirty money regardless of the source.

I think this is actually a good thing because blockchain technology can now be put to its full use,,, transparency and traceability to ensure funds are not derived from evil deeds. Auditors should start using this.

Woah. This is cool, however, being inside the prison serves as a rehabilitation center for an individual. Contemplating of wrong deeds and overall character is among the necessary actions and I don't know if this is going to help.

Yeah me too, I only heard one of his story in his hit issue about AC and regarding Benjamin Franklin, but who knows right? maybe at that time Nikola Tesla loses to Franklin in one of there bet so he pay Franklin for his invention.

Very interesting piece of work you compiled there. All the gambling related trivia are very entertaining and also make you visualize in your mind what might have happened to their interesting lives. I never thought I could ever read the information you just presented nor I never imagines that it actually happened in the past. Gambling really makes many interesting characters and you can either hate them, laugh at them, or be inspired to gamble more.

Yes very entertaining, and it also prove to us that they will do everything they can even that Frankenstein man for him to get paid 100k$ it is sad yes, because he gives his body to get money, but we can't blame him, but I do pity him.

Gambling in Medieval Times was seem like life or death situation. I wonder, how much people are willing to put at stake to win something, from what i know they were betting anything even humans. Back then slaves was a trend, so losing back then will seriously ruin your life not just wealth. Gambling is the proof that no matter how many years has passed it will not be forgotten, even if other sports perish. Gambling will still survive.

Fun fact #44 from the list is funnies and saddest one. A man agreed to become a Frankenstein and spoil his body for a $100k. Not only this man is greedy as hell, but stupid as well. Wearing breast implants for 20 years for a bet that ended 19 year ago.

Reading all the facts makes me realize how unbelievable dumb people are and how sad the world I'm living is. People will do anything for money.

Nice thread, interesting and informative.
For number 23, I can imagine the reaction of the wife after hitting the jackpot. While her main purpose is to show that its a waste of money it turned out to be the luckiest day of their lives.

  • Two boys tried to sue Nintendo in 1999 alleging that Pokémon caused their gambling addictions. Source
This is funny to me. They are blaming nintendo for their own addictions but its their fault actually for not having a self control. I remembered this game and also one of my favorite.

Very informative right? While I am scrolling to search for topics, I saw this thread and this thread caught my attention. The list of mind blowing facts are really true and great and also what the poster said are absolutely awesome that's why I am highly agreed to him.
Yup. And we've got a new update about the fun and mindblowing fact number 51. I never knew that guy but that's what you get when you're trying hard and your resort is to gamble everything you had for the sake high living. On the otherhand, his main land or country has stopped him playing Tennis because they see it as opposed to their believe, the funny thing is that his country saw it as "communist and elitist sport". • The famous MIT team consists of students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They played blackjack from 1979 until the beginning of the 21st century. They made millions with some legal techniques such as card counting. Source
This is quite unusual, MIT is known for their quality education in terms of technological development such as robots. I just can't believe they also applied their logical thinking in gambling game such as blackjack, though, there's nothing wrong with it, they could earn allot, but for me, not just as good as a public figure for a university. Good thing that they are still known for technology and not in terms of gambling.

I just wonder, would there be a school or university that teaches gambling?
