Upon reading this post, I just realize how much I did not pay attention with these things. Thank you for posting these facts! I am really curious about the affiliation of the church and religions with gambling since the teachings are against it tho.
I was surprised to see that fact too. The possibility is that due to the donations that the church is getting through gamblers or from the casinos, they have no choice but to support it. They benefit from the donations and then they are also giving the benefit the donators from that money. It's just a speculation of mine as it's also happening today. They might be against to it but there is a tendency that they do accept money that comes from gambling.

I think up until now, there are churches who are still accepting donations from lotteries/gambling. Sometimes they need to, in order to finance their maintenance. On the side note, I don't know about a lot of things in the OP's list and it is really amazing to know those facts. But I can say gambling is one of the ancient games that humanity has. It only changes its form and way of playing, but the gambling idea is always there.
Yes, they still do. As long as it's voluntarily given and they have decided to accept it, they will. There could be some protocols on their management or organization to ask where the donation came from but, they can also just accept it without further interrogation from the donator.
The list is great and it's been well compiled, I didn't even know that much history of gambling just as those that are on the list.

I enjoyed reading this thread that you've made and I learned a lot from this and it somehow changes my perception towards gambling.

  • In the past, the Catholic and Judaic priests supported gambling. Source
Hopefully until now, Catholics are not against about gambling and they still support it.

snip
In theory the Catholic church and their doctrine is against gambling however I have seen many instances in which Catholic churches make use of raffles to raise money for themselves, so in order to not be hypocrites and tell their followers to not gamble while they themselves are participants in the activity it has become a rule that is not really enforced, at least where I live, so gambling is tolerated and accepted as a fact of life but I do not know if this is true all over the world.
when they make raffle for the church they dont say to the public that the money will go straight to thier pocket  and not all are like that , they work on the church and they will do things like that ? its only a raffle for a good cause and its not really considered as a gambling so its fine  but i think they are still against gambling  , thats what i see  but they cant still do a thing to stop people from gambling as long as gambling is allowed by governments  , governments are still powerful than them  .

lot of things are prohibited by the catholic church but they are doing it. priest even violating laws like raping the nuns, some gotten pregnant but it seems fine to their archdiocese.

if members are not allowed to gamble, they'd find out the whole city wouldn't go in the church anymore and they will not collect fundings from its members. catholic church is the most hypocrite church in the world.

Did you know that the Famous Las Vegas Nevada was used for conducting nuclear tests during 1950s?

It sounds like a sick joke right from ‘Fallout: New Vegas,’ however, it’s true. In 1951, the US Department of Energy began to set off more than a thousand test nuclear bombs 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. A terrific spectacle turned the night into day. Nevertheless, the horrifying mushroom clouds, which could be seen from the casinos, attracted lookie-loos, so the city became a thriving tourist location. Vegas is Vegas; the city turned the horror show into business opportunities, advertising atomic bombs and offering special ‘atomic cocktails’ in casino bars. Furthermore, one casino conducted a beauty contest ‘Miss Atomic Energy’ where models wore outfits imitating atomic mushrooms! - Source

Quote
22. A village in India is addicted to chess after one man taught everyone how to play 50 years ago to stop excessive alcohol use and gambling which has now all declined to almost nothing.

Sometimes diversion is a good way to keep away from any form of addiction. At least they have switched into something not harmful. I was able to get over my computer games addiction when I started to learn how to play sports such as badminton, volleyball and tennis. Which I think helped me a lot.

This is actually very a good idea on how to divert the alcohol and gambling addiction. But aren't they betting on the chess players? All of the people in the vilage are addicted to chess, someone out there must have put all their hearts to chess that can beat chess masters today.

Chess is addicting and at one point in my teen's life I remember playing it all the time in the neighborhood and that every step I do going to a friend's house has to take an L pattern like the knight's hop.

Very interesting piece of work you compiled there. All the gambling related trivia are very entertaining and also make you visualize in your mind what might have happened to their interesting lives. I never thought I could ever read the information you just presented nor I never imagines that it actually happened in the past. Gambling really makes many interesting characters and you can either hate them, laugh at them, or be inspired to gamble more.

Now that's something else!
Great job. I owe you merits brother.

A lot of information listed here I don't even freaking know. Like that massive contribution of Keno gambling for the Great Wall of China.
That is just one.
Yeah, thanks a lot.

This are really some of the mind-blowing facts as was not knowing myself about it. Some were shocking as well to read it that even this has happened in history. Generally, we just gamble for our self and we keep a track of our profits and losses. So, such things get ignored as what happens across the globe unless some is very keen on knowing the facts. Credits to OP for starting this topic.

All lists are related to gambling. Human knows about gambling for a long time, and maybe there will be many more list about that, and if we dig for another source, we will see that gambling is part of our life. I believe that there are many good and bad stories about gambling that we don't know, but it is happening in out there. So maybe gambling will stay for a long time in human lives.

It's more about socializing, and people can't help it but stayed more attached to gambling in their daily lives. Most of them were into addiction without knowing that it really affected their personal live, particular with family financial aspects. However some folks find it comfortable to get into gambling even if they're losing more money just have fun and lucky winnings.

If we are addicted without knowing, that will be dangerous for us because we will not realize how much money we already use to satisfy ourselves. Even if that is about socializing, we need to control ourselves when we play gambling. We can play gambling, but we must control ourselves because that is the important thing that we must do. Don't let gambling conquer us and make our money gone.
ive been addicted to gambling on and off , i know the difference and i know that its happening on me . you know your addicted when you are gambling on the next level . others knew it but they try to hide it and say they isnt

there are also gambling site that arent like socializing , thats when you play ln online casino with no chatbox or forums .

Japan is very a conservative country, they always have full of catches in their culture and rules but they're one of the best and I respect their culture and very much like the country itself.

As long as the gambler can still exchange the thing that they've won for cash, they will still continue to do it and find a way of exchanging it to plain cash.

I never knew so many facts about gambling until today. I did visit the website and read few more facts there and thought of leaving my comment but unfortunately, the comment plugin thinks I am a spammer.

Anyways it was nice reading so many facts. Thanks for sharing it.

Most of these facts are new to me. I always thought about playing the gambling but never try to find out the history and facts related to gambling.
I will share these with my friends too who play gambling.

You wouldnt know these facts if you arent really that a gambler or even if your still a heavy gambler, no one will really just make up some research about these stuffs.

Good thing that op did really make some good topic on here and showing off these facts that i do believe that majority havent known off and its much appreciated.

When you do saw the community feedbacks then you can really say that there are lots of us didnt really know that those things happened.

This is a long list of facts and it's fun and worth reading.

  • A wife bought a scratch-off lottery ticket to prove a point to her husband that it was a waste of money, but it ended up winning her $1 million. Source
it must be mixed feelings for the wife.
happy to get $1 million.
but she will lose most of the debate when her husband say, "remember when you say lottery is wasting money?" lol.

An absolutely incredible story. Quite a strange choice, to buy a lottery for $ 1 and thereby try to prove that it is a waste of time. If she bought tickets for at least $ 1000 it would be more revealing.
Nevertheless, if this is true, then I would not be surprised if she believed in God.

I have also read a lot of amazing lottery stories and would like to share it here once I found it. It's really amazing reading stories about luck and unbelievable incidents.

Strange but he can able to play with the money whether it came from good or in corruption but lets not link the winning on their corrupt practices since it will be a different talks and need a proper thread for that things.

Don't want to make this any really discussion about the lottery winnings of Mugabe. But this is actually listed in the corruption thread on Wiki under the ZimBank lottery (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_in_Zimbabwe) So definitely a grey area.

Interesting facts, some of them are really puzzling. It's a pity that most of them we cannot verify reliably.
If I had a large weight in the gambling industry, I would come up with such facts on my own, and would pay people to voice them on my blogs. Perhaps I would even ask to write a history book and put in some facts. Decorate so to speak.
