Sad for Charles but he was a driver error after all.

Verstappen won and he is leading the leaderboard and also RedBull is doing the same.
Happy for Sainz.

Bottas is an unlucky, poor guy.

Welcome back tot he old boring Gp of Monaco with only 1 overtake if I can recall correctly, Schumacher over Mazepin.

What??  It was Vettel over Gasly (go Vettel!  Grin).  But the camera man or the whoever messed it up.  It should a split second Vettel going for it then suddenly the camera goes to Stroll cos he went over the curb.  Wtf?  That was the only legit overtake in the race.

this luck needs to be earned and Max spent the race exemplary and significantly did not make obvious mistakes. The intrigue in the championship was revived

Yes, Max did everything he needed to do - except putting the car on pole, but Leclerc not starting was the only bit of luck he didn't earn himself.

Yes a bad weekend for Mercedes and Hamilton. All teams make mistakes sometimes, it's just that Monaco is the worst place for this to happen, but overtaking is almost impossible... and Mercedes made it even worse by messing up the pit stop timing, and so preventing Hamilton from maybe finishing fourth. Any other track, Hamilton would, you'd expect, quickly overtake the other challengers and get right up behind Max into second... but Monaco? No chance.

As you say, it really sets the championship on edge again. I do think this was simply a bad weekend for Mercedes at the worst time, and their car does in general seem to be improving. We will find out at the next race!

Strange enough no safety car and not a single driver crashing. That is a statistic itself as in the last 10 races we have had here in Monaco at least a driver has crashed or at least a safety car has happened. This was the most boring race of the year with Mercedes screwing up with Bottas as they could not remove a tire which is ridiculous for a team like them and costed the race to Bottas which up to that point was driving well. They did the same with Lewis pit stop and he was angry after coming out and losing position to Vettel and not making past Gasly. The weekend was only perfect for Redbull and Aston Martin  and good for Ferrari and McLaren,Mercedes was the big loser today.
Mercedes completely failed both qualifying and the race itself. Hamilton was terribly unhappy with the car both in qualifying and at the end of the race, but even more epic was the reason for Bottas ' exit due to a nut in the wheel at the pit stop. Verstappen was lucky both with the absence of Leclerc at the start, and immediately the only real competitor in the race in the person of Bottas. However, this luck needs to be earned and Max spent the race exemplary and significantly did not make obvious mistakes. The intrigue in the championship was revived with a new force, but too casually Verstappen was able to win back the entire handicap. However, Azerbaijan is ahead, and Mercedes is famous for its ability to correct mistakes, so we are waiting for further struggle.

Slava Ukraini!
I feel disappointed for Lelcerc. Yeah, it was his mistake, but still, wiining pole in Mnaco and don't even start in race - it hurts. So, Lelcerc never finnished at his home GP.
From 1st there was no doubts about Verstappen win. Well deserved and he took a lead in drivers championship. Also, it was good to see Sainz and Norris on the podium.
Great pit stop strategy for Perez. By staying on track longer, he was able to overtake Hamilton, Gasly and Vettel after pit stop. Impressive.
Also, I probably never saw before that driver had to retire because team weren't able to change tyre for him - Bottas was really unlucky today, he had good chance to earn some solid points today.
Finally, good race for Vettel and his first 10 points this season.
Also, amazing thing - Mazepin finnished not last and didn't even crashed - wow.
No safety car in Monaco - very rare thing.
And just 2 real overtake - Shumacher over Mazepin and Vettel on pit exit over Gasly.

Ferrari retired the car before the start  Shocked.
LeClerc already out from the GP.

Disappointment.

I did not make it in time to the beginning of the race. When i switched on the tv and i saw that both bottas and leclerc were out i thought that they crashed into each other at the start. Now of course it looks like a big mistake of ferrari to not change the gear box but i think they took this risk intentionally because they know how important the starting position in monaco is and if leclerc would have started from position 6 he would have had no chance to win the race. So ferrari took the gamble and lost...that can happen.

So Leclerc's car was damaged, which meant he couldn't start, which meant Max started from pole.

What has happened in the race so far?
Bottas had problems with his pit stop and had to retire. And that is it.

Nothing

else

has

happened.

... but we have a few laps left... maybe the excitement will all happen at the end? Grin

True , the chances of having a safety car were so big especially when you see that couple of the drivers crashed in the free practice and the qualifying laps.
this made the race too boring there have been just a handfull takeovers. And everyone was driving safe,
I expected Mazepin to do his thing but he somehow managed to keep the car on track.
Mercedes now have lost the 29 points gap for the constructors championship and Luis have lost his first place to Vertsappen.
Next race will be Baku in Azerbaijan its not too fast of a track, i expect Mercedes to be back and dominate in this one but surely the RedBull will be hard to shake off in this one.

Yeah just saw now that Leclerc will not start at pole.Ferrari said before that apparently it did not see any damage to the gearbox and they risked to keep pole position but in the end right now they realized as soon as they loaded it up the gearbox failed. It is a shame for Ferrari, now Verstappen has a clear view in front of him and he needs to get to the grippy part of where Leclerc would have been and if he gets out first of the first turn I am starting to think this can be a boring race especially without any rain in the horizon.

This is official now.

LeClerc cars have no problem with the gearbox so he will start from the pole position.

My first impression when i watched the qualifying yesterday was that leclerc's crash was on purpose by him, because both verstappen and bottas were faster than leclerc on their last rounds, so leclerc would have only started from 3th position. But looking at the replay of the accident it is pretty obvious that this crash was not intended at all at those high speeds. It is still pretty sad and disappointing for verstappen and bottas though understandably. If leclerc can stay in first position until after the first corner than he will probably win the race.

I always wonder why monaco is considered as the highlight of the racing season, it's the most boring race of them all. I mean of course the location is cool and the track is challenging for the drivers and the qualifying is exciting, but in the end the race is the highlight of a race weekend and the race is just boring in monaco.

Just 13 minutes before the race starts and I am ready to watch the best race of all the season in my opinion.Although it can be a linear and boring race the stats are that safety car happens here and this can really turn things around. Also to make the race even more beautiful is a Ferrari starting at the pole position and right behind there is Verstappen with Redbull and Bottas with Mercedes. This lineup promises some beautiful race.
So apparently the gearbox problem came out to bite the in the ass, They didn't want to change it so they don't get the penalty, now he will not even start in the race,
Vertsappen now in will start in in pole alone then followed behind by Bottas and Sainz.
I had a feeling about Leclerc car since they sad its good to go i thought it will fail him in middle of the race but at the end he didnt even start.

Yes, it definitely looked like an accident. If he was going to crash the car deliberately, then he'd have made it so there was just a bit of superficial damage, easy to repair but enough to stop qualifying... which other drivers have done before. But this one, no, it looked genuine.

Yes. It sometimes gets interesting if there's some rain, but really the only chance of overtaking is the pit stops. You would imagine Mercedes will go long with Hamilton today, so that he can get into some clean air when the others stop, and Mercedes can go for the overcut. But of course he has no real chance of winning, it's just damage limitation.

Read the news about Ducati. The Ducati boss hopes to be able to field 8 motorbikes in the 2022 season. With 5 factory bikes and 3 stelit teams. This may be a good sign for the VR46 which is ready to appear next season, because until now there has been no official news that the VR46 will use which motorbike from which manufacturer.
Rossi just able to resign from petronas and the rumor say he want to joining to his team VR46. But I won't make the speculation until the next summer. About the issue, Ducati motor has the best peformance this year; Francesco Bagnaia, Johann Zarco and Jack Miller. I'm still doubt rossi want to leave yamaha sponsor to ducati or Rossi just change the motor into ducati manufactures?.

This is the official statement from Ferrari so I'm guessing if they had to change the gearbox he was under penalty  Shocked even if they are under the "free changes"

I've already read that, but I don't think Rossi wants B spec bikes for the team. I don't know how big the tendency towards Ducati is, I only read once that Petronas is also in conversation with Ducati and Suzuki because Rossi wants Yamaha for the VR46 team, but Yamaha doesn't want to build 6 bikes. Would be weird, of course, since Rossi is currently driving at petronas ...

The surprise with Lewis Hamilton, who was uncomfortable in his Mercedes, where he finished seventh

I usually watch all races in a season, but I am often tempted to skip Monaco as it's basically a two-hour procession with the pit stop the only real oppportunity to change position.
But this year Hamilton's poor performance in qualifying does add an extra dimension. He starts from seventh, but it seems unlikely he'll finish seventh, even on a track where overtaking is next to impossible. I think he'll either get a podium place or else crash out trying some outrageous overtake.
