Baaaaaawwwwwww you were hoping for an investment which is risk-free and you did not get it, cry some moar yank.

Care to join some other get-rich-quick schemes?

How 'bout the person that got some cheap btc on btc-e today. Went down to $102 for a minute. Not sure how big the orderbook on btc-e is (or was) but it must have been a lot of coins!

At this point Mtgox should just die... I took huge loss because of their BS, an IT engineer cannot blame his programming fails on the whole protocol, I said this before and I will repeat it again, Gox engineers are a shame for IT and the whole Bitcoin community... and not trading at this shitty platform didn't save me from its effect, they effected the whole system and at this point I am so pissed that I wish if they shut down then we will all have a peaceful life after....

Yes I agree in that its over all they are doing is prolonging the inevitable bankrupt announcement  while giving people hope that is no longer there.  Mt gox is a filthy criminal at this point by not admitting insolvency and letting people hope they can still get moneys off. Meanwhile they have charged me 25 percent markup on jan 27 and since that time bitcoin dropped from 825 to  650 on other exchanges  , mt gox and its owners are filthy scumbags indeed.

My theory :

MTGox doesn't have enough BTC to do all the BTC withdraw that were asked.
They blocked the BTC withdraw for that reason and will keep them blocked until the BTC/$ price goes down enough so they can buy back the BTC they need.
Once they have the BTC needed, they will allow the BTC withdraw again.

Or they only now found out that someone was actually abusing this bug that THEY didn't care to fix and have transfered more btc then they should have.

I really don't think they are going out of business though, with 100K's in USD trade fees alone every day they should have some reserves. That said, no one should ever trust them again.

They do not claim the bug is "hereto unnoticed".  They even claim it is a known design issue.

Yes, I see that now. Even so, this looks to have been addressed in almost every other client/service, and the fact they left it until their withdrawals were crippled to do something about it just seems like laziness.

"Unanticipated bugs don’t come with year-old wiki pages fully documenting them. Gox is full of shit"

"There’s no “new bug". This has been known since 2011 and only incompetent bunch of clowns would based withdrawal refunds on it"

"If Bitcoin Foundation’s mission is to promote bitcoin, then Karpeles should resign or be kicked out for violating mission"

I didn't even know he was on the board. I agree with Andreas, he should be booted out immediately.

I'm incredibly bullish with what is happening during the last hours.

Adié, MtGox.

We won't miss you.

It's always like that , bad things affect everything. Staying away from gox didn't help too much today and the effects of their fiasco will still be seen for a few days or weeks  around.

I'm afraid that even when collapsing for the final time , gox will still try to drown us all with them.

Ok, so MtGox's press release claims that they are working with the core dev team to work through their issues, which are related to a hereto unnoticed bug in the bitcoin protocol. If this is the case, a member of the dev team should be in a position to confirm this - does anyone know if they have, and if so where?
From #bitcoin-dev (sipa is a core developer):
Quote from: #bitcoin-dev
13:05 < sipa> there are 3 different problems here: malleability as a whole (which we are slowly working towards fixing, but will take years), 2) wallets (like mtgox's) which don't deal well with malleability and 3) other services that rely on a constant txid to track transactions that do not confirm
13:05 < sipa> it is for 3) that they want a standard solution, and we're working on proposing one
I haven't seen anyone denying this (MagicalTux answered questions in #mtgox just after the press release):
Quote from: MagicalTux in #mtgox
11:44 <@MagicalTux> [19:43:16] where the fk is gavin andresen <- the only core dev I couldn't get a hold of so far
They do not claim the bug is "hereto unnoticed".  They even claim it is a known design issue.  From the press release:

Bitcoin transactions are subject to a design issue that has been largely ignored, while known to at least a part of the Bitcoin core developers and mentioned on the BitcoinTalk forums.

It was mentioned back in 2011 at least, but no steps were taken to mitigate the problem until last year.

One of the devs has made a statement. It was a problem that they were aware of abut the issue was with Gox's outdated programs they were continuing to use.

And the most important thing is the time frame for which this issue was known.

Gox is trying to cover up for their mess bringing in bugs from years ago.

So i can withdraw to bank account but since I am in USA I am not able to do this and i can't withdraw to wallet but my bitcoins are indeed safe. All scam, broke, ponzi, bankrupt companies use the same dealy tactics as gox when implementing this type of a con. Can expect nothing but excuses and misinformation from gox from here on in until they just slink away into oblivion.

In other words their release is basically saying mt gox is a thief and has stolen all our bitcoins if i read that correctly and i believe i did.

No , they are saying that the bitcoin protocol is broken and that it's not their fault for "losing" the customers coins.
Isn't this a nice way to say "we fucked up really good this time" ?  Smiley

It seems that way to me. They're just stalling and passing the blame.

Is that what they are saying that  our coins are gone? the people who tried to transfer and had transactions stuck?

a case of the worker blaming his tools for a shoddy job.

Not even their tools. They are not blaming their "custom" software. They are blaming the bitcoin protocol.
