There are 25,000 total seats and they will eventually all be receiving donations. They are being released to the market in a way that continues to increase the MH/s per seat as more equipment comes online in order to provide steady growth for existing seats. With the number of seats and ordered equipment, an increase to 24MH/s per seat is the current expectation. You can track our hashing power per seat on the OP, or by viewing the below image.

Agreed for the most part. The K16 would be reasonable for a limited expansion, all else being relatively equal. 100Gh/s capacity would cost ~40-50 BTC total.

Ordering new BFL units would result in lengthy delays before receipt. Others are overpriced and based on current designs. In order to be competitive rather than struggling to keep up, it would be wise to hold some funds for the next generation of hardware - being first to order <32nm devices could provide a major lead.

In addition, with the amount of current-gen hardware due to enter service, difficulty will increase; as will price. Coin holdings offset device depreciation.

Other than that, BFL is shipping.

So does anyone have tabs on next-gen devices? No Cryonics pie in the sky dreams.

I think it would be a good cause for the current BTC holdings, and with no need to sacrifice BFL orders. I do share TradeFortress's opinion that BFL won't be delivering "very soon", since they have been "very close" for a couple of weeks already, but they keep running in to (unforseen) problems.

Regardless how soon BFL will start shipping, if we want to stay competitative and keep expanding, using the current funds to buy other ASICs seems to me like the best idea. Because ordering from BFL now would put us in the back of line and even with the most optimistic estimates those orders would be shipped in a couple of months at best.

So any ASIC in that pricerange that can provebly be shipped "very soon" seems like a good bet, wether or not this is is sooner than BFL or not.

Don't those chips use something like 10X the power as BFL's equipment per GH/s? Last time I checked (admittedly has been a while), I determined that there is a good chance those chips won't even be profitable once BFL ships their backlog and difficulty/price adjusts to the new reality. I have no interest in buying equipment for this operation that will be useless in less than a year. There are others chasing hash rates for quick gains, we are in this for the long haul and are in a great position to benefit from the 600GH/s that has already been ordered. I've also been in contact with BFL and there is a better than average chance we will be sending in some of our singles later this week... Just be patient a little longer. The ASIC race is just beginning. Panic buying inferior equipment now will almost certainly prove to be a bad investment once more products enter the market.

Ok even if we got all the ordered ASICs next week I would be skeptical about our mining power per share a month later. What concerns me is our ability to prevent declining mining power per share because of difficulty. It's just my healthy constructive pessimism Wink

Both AVALON and ASICMINER and\or their 'subcontractors' can beat any offer BFL makes in the future. Of course they will promise stockpiles of miners and zillions of THash for few bucks which will be delivered very soon. Is there really no alternatives to increase our mining power ?
