Short question: I started local harvesting. Do I have to keep my browser and the wallet open for harvesting? Or in other words: What can I close?

Hi punkrock!

You can close browser when you harvest locally but don't turn off NIS (shield in the tray)
http://blog.nem.io/how-local-and-delegated-harvesting-works/

If you do delegated harvesting and enter remote node address under settings then you can turn everything off and you'll still be harvesting.

New moderation policy

Due to obvious reasons, from now on we will install a much more intolerable policy to deliberate FUD and trolling. Criticizing, being angry and complaining are all fine within reasonable limits. But when somebody is intentionally lying and trying to hurt NEM with FUD and trolling, they will have all their comments from that point on deleted.

Every time, I come to this forum, I cannot help but see ruts of society exhibiting and bettering each other with their verbal diarrhoea. I salute some of the core team members to even bother to come here and have the patience to give any comments. There are also many who are sincerely in support of NEM.

I would suggest for those who are looking for more sanity, to go over to https://forum.ournem.com/. Here you will find more serenity and should give you a better peace of mind. We should just leave these fudsters alone and leave them to compete with each other's verbal diarrhoea.

Some replies/answers to some remarks/questions asked:

Why should I invest in NEM? Answer: Don't invest in NEM if you don't know why. Nobody is forcing you to.
NEM is a shitcoin. My reply: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If you think it is shit, then it is shit to you. It's ok.
NEM is on the slide. My reply: Too bad. If it slides, it slides. It is not the end of the world just yet. Nobody is forcing you. You can get out and forget about NEM. Curse at yourself for being an idiot to have invested in NEM. Don't blame others if the sky decides to rain on you.
NEM is a laughing matter. Some even predicted it will go to 10s of million marketcap. My reply: It was a matter of conjecture. If anyone can say the market cap value with certainty in advance, we all won't need to be working on anything but wait for these certainties to happen. It takes great stupidity to criticise a conjecture.

NEM should have a big marketing strategy and do it big and have a roadmap. My reply: Every marketing campaign in the crypto world was a failure. No one has ever come out with anything great. After seven years, the crypto is only patronised by less that 2 million people, probably much less in active terms. A large sample of them is what you will find in this BTT. They belong to the rut of society. There is no need to waste time on them.

We are not professing that we will have a great marketing plan. But the greatest marketing plan lies in the individual who thinks and does it right and as a decentralised concern, it is not the devs' responsibility to market NEM. They are like skilled artisans. They do what they know best, i.e., giving NEM to us. If we, as individuals in a decentralised environment, cannot and don't have a clue to do any better, then it is no one's fault but ourselves. The bottom line is, don't harp on a marketing plan. There will be none to show. Best is to show one yourself and actually do it.

Some of us know what to do, some don't. Those who don't, I am afraid, they are bankrupt of ideas and that's why they are here showing their verbal diarrhoea for reasons known to themselves. For those who do, you can do it on your own. NEM, as a platform follows the path of decentralised marketing. Anyone can take it on and build a great marketing plan alone without the help of anyone here. In the Internet space, great initiatives don't need to market the greatness of Internet. Great initiatives market their products and services built on the Internet. NEM is likened to the Internet. If you cannot build anything on NEM and market it yourself, too bad for you. Some people can and they are not obligated to you and at the same time need not please you. They don't need to show you a marketing plan and they don't want to know your marketing plan either.

Edit: Message to fudsters. You can fud for all you want. It won't create a dent on NEM. NEM should succeed without your fud. NEM relies on those who want to make this a success. And I can tell you that success won't come from BTT's input. If and when it does, it will come from somewhere else.

Having had only 1 comment while being terribly suspicious doesn't make somebody a sock puppet. Innocent until proven guilty.

You would think that would be the case.

I recently found out I was on the very last sockpuppet list, not from pm, but from finding my stake account empty after the launch, which I'm still patently waiting for an explanation from makoto1337 as to why!

I'm answering my PM inbox in order, so please wait. I've been busy, so I'm a little behind, and people send me too many PMs Sad

i send my pm to koodycoin... where must i send this? to which person???

It's working out exceptionally well, thanks for asking!

"When in Rome, do as the Romans."

Scamming the NEM registration doesn't make you a cock, but making a sock to brag about it does though. Unless you post from your socks to show one person controls them all, I say you're talking shit, and what a pathetic little knob that makes you. Prove you have all these socks, otherwise you're so pathetic it's not funny.

Bith IP and browser-fingerprint where used to group people. Noone got put on the sock puppet list for not being active. This has been stated dozens of times.
Activity was only used to CLEAR people. I.e. if you were very active or at least logged in recently (and very is really relative here, i think it was like 50 posts or so - not that active) you were cleared.

That only filtered out stupid socks. I got my multiple stakes with ease as I run many virtual machines each with different VPNs to produce different IP addresses, MAC addresses, browsers, plugins and screen resolutions. I find it amusing when people try to outsmart me  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

How is this cheating mentality working out for you in real life situations? With your friends? School? Business? I'm sure you have tons of respect in real life right?

Seeing as how the sock clearing methodology was introduced much later after the call for participation, I seriously doubt anyone went through the trouble described above in the beginning.

In other words, fudbuster is fudding and full of shit.

Please do not engage with obvious trolls so that they will get tired and leave. I am so tired of this thread being taken over by a constant stream of trolls and FUD slingers.

I tried to activate delegate harvesting, i have now a new adress, which was generated by the wallet, but what i have to do now?
Should i import the public key into a new wallet, or is somewhere a new wallet file, which i have to import into the wallet, where i want to harvest?

Hi Meladon! Nice to have you here!
If you are a stakeholder (you have your stake that waits for you on the address that you provided prior to release of NEM) then these are the steps:
Install the latest client (and java 8 before that) - you've completed that.
Then import your private key by using the Add the existing account in your client options (the cog right to your address).
The detailed instructions are here: http://blog.nem.io/getting-started-with-nem/
If you've done everything right your XEM should be visible immediately.

With these steps you've created additional account so don't forget to set up your newly account (that has XEM on it) as primary. Otherwise next time you start your client your default empty account will be shown first and you may be surprised that there is no money :-D
You can swich accounts which will be primary any time as much as you want it.

For delegated harvesting and how to set it up please look at this tutorials:
http://blog.nem.io/how-local-and-delegated-harvesting-works/
http://blog.nem.io/how-to-use-delegated-harvesting/

And if you want to harvest on a remote node (so that you can turn off your PC and still be harvesting) you need to either set up your own node (prefarably) by using VPS or using some old/cheep/energy efficient solution like Raspberry Pi 2 or you can use nodes listed here:
https://forum.ournem.com/vps-nodes/list-of-dedicated-vps-nodes-to-conect-nem/
Be mindful that probaly soon NEM will have special incentives for those running nodes so having your own node (VPS or another pc that can run 24/7) is the best way to go and support the NEM network.
