NEM has leveraged on support from the Asian market which has given it a solid base. Cryptocurrency exchange in the Asian countries especially in Japanese and South Korean exchanges accounts for a huge portion of the global trade and NEM is one of the most popular currencies there. This has made the daily trading volumes of NEM rise every day and this trend is not going to change anytime soon.

Coinbase rumours isn´t the only reason NEM is picking up
Every exchange will eventually add XEM rather sooner than later. Each addition to an exchange will boost the price of XEM massively and there are many exchanges which haven't add XEM yet and still price is super high.
There is so much in the pipe for the next months ( Exchange Adding, Real World Project, Catpult etc. etc.) Everybody who short will get REKT!
I have heard of Catpult since long time ago.
Why is it taking so long to implement it? Will it change XEM dramatically?
Because NEM has a solid reputation for delivering actually working products. So they wanna make sure everything is battle tested. Currently Catapult is being tested by about 300 companies under NDA, who are using the private NEM-chain 'Mijin'.

I think they are already working on this. Seems like its not easy to get onto exchanges these days.

That's very strange that ppl think that exchanges add some value to the crypto. NEM is listed on best alt exchange, absolutely no need for extra unless they list NEM themselves.
They add visibility and they add choice. There's no other coin so high up with such a pitiful amount of options to buy. It badly needs to be on some heavyweight exchanges, not the usual alt @!$#@$@!@, and it needs proper USD and EUR markets.

Coinbase isn't like any other exchange. Apart from being the biggest, it offers an on ramp for fiat in to the crypto market. Any coin that gets listed there goes parabolic and becomes a reserve currency that others can peg to. Coinbase has stated they will be adding many cryptos in 2018. NEM has been in the top 10 for a very long time, the only thing it lacks is volume which might change after catapult.
It would indeed be really good for NEM, especially the US and European markets, if Coinbase adds NEM. I know Coinbase gets a lot of hate, but it is still the simplest way to buy crypto for a lot of people. And they claimed a couple of weeks earlier that they're adding 100,000 people to their service EACH DAY. Even if 1% of them end up buying NEM, you're talking about 1000 new people coming into NEM every single day. Whatever currencies Coinbase decides to add would very likely see some increased interest from crypto investors.

That's naive. You can't rustle up customers out of nowhere. Exchanges take years to build and there's a strong chance new ones never take off. There's a huge list of dead or empty exchanges.
From now on it's going to become even harder to get traction. It would be like launching a new bank and trying to poach HSBC's customers. The odds of succeeding are painfully low.
u get new customers by provide better solutions and promote them (make people know about them)
and not by use solutions that are all created to mainly support BTC dominant role
and all existing exchanges are set up that way
the future and the end of exchanges the way we know them now is decentral exchanges
and only the exchanges that prepare by create additional value beside just buy/sell will survive that
one way to prepare could be full cooperation with goverment and taxing systems
which will make old school exchanges the prefered KYC place for white coins
so we can expect a future with fiat/crypto trades/cenversions with full KYC verification is the ground for old school exchanges
and most of the crypto/crypto trading will happen on decentral exchanges

why push other exchanges
or pay them for getting listed
they can add us if they want but dont waste energy for that
instead full focus on zeus exchange!
the goal must be get other coins trade on our exchange and not the other direction

Existing exchanges are getting worse every day or stopped accepting new users.
I guess there's enough room for a new generation of exchanges.
