This point is not covered in detail, it needs detailing. Although, there was an explanation:


So, the Opt-in (subscription, registration) before the snapshot makes an application for an account in the Symbol genesis block, with the funds that will be in the corresponding NEM account at the time of the snapshot; the snapshot will take place in December. To participate in the Opt-in, a NEM account must have at least 100 XEM. After the Opt-in has taken place, the funds on this NEM account do not need to be fixed before the snapshot. During this period, you can make any free movement of funds on it - reduce, increase and even zero funds. It is only important that at the moment of the snapshot there is the necessary or possible amount on this account.

    Example #1.
The account now has 100 XEM and it has passed the Opt-in. At the time of the snapshot, 100k XEM has accumulated there. Result: 100k XYM will be fixed on the Symbol account.
    Example #2.
The account now has 100k XEM and it has passed the Opt-in. But at the time of the snapshot there are 100 XEM left. Result: 100 XYM will be fixed on the Symbol account.
    Example #3.
The account did not participate in the Opt-in, but at the time of the snapshot there were 1000 XEM. For 6 years after the snapshot, the account owner can claim 1000 XYM on the Symbol network.

From what has been said, in particular, it follows that resetting XEM after Opt-in contradicts logic. Some say about this tactic, but I suspect that they are not entirely honest and thus they are trying to reduce the price of XEM in order, on the contrary, to increase their funds before the snapshot. The key point is the snapshot, and what's the point in registering an account if by the time of the snapshot most of the XEM will be removed from it )

Also : there may be 2 different wallet 2.4.7 versions; the other does not have the opt-in-method.

Just to have understood it correctly: If I have my XEM on my address for a long time, then I don't have to do the Opt-In and I don't have to be active for the snapshot either, right? Will the public and private key on the symbol blockchain be identical to those on the NEM blockchain?

People who buy now missed opportunity to buy very cheap coins @450 satoshi but this train is not left a station.

My opinion is that price will go up even more till december 2020 snapshot so current price @1100 satoshi is still cheap.

Download the wallet with the opt-in module:

Install on your machine.  Open the wallet, login.

Go to services, go to the opt-in option and follow the opt-in wizard step by step.

The opt-in process will generate your XYM wallet address, your mnemonic passphrase, and VFR keys (if you will be using for harvesting).

Save these to a safe backup location, opt-in complete.

You need 100 XEM minimum in your wallet, there is a transaction fee of around 1.05 XEM.

Keep your XEM in your XEM wallet until the time of snapshot to receive free XYM at Symbol launch.

Any transactions after the snapshot will not count towards free XYM.

No, today is the first day to opt-in and will run until before launch in December 2020.

If you didn't opt-in before launch date; you will be able to Opt-in for up to six years after Symbol launches and receive the same balance in XYM as you held in XEM at Snapshot.

However, in order to receive the XYM at launch date, you need to opt-in before launch date in December.  You must have balance in your XEM wallet at snapshot time in order to receive free XYM equivalent.

I think that it is not.
The account must be attached to the "opt-in" process; e.g. in the NEM wallet will be a method (command or something) and by using that method you tell to the XYM system that you want XYM coins.

I think Catapult is over and it turns out that what you say is true they built it on top of Catapult , I was initially skeptical of what they were planning about the Catapult because it took too long to even discuss very little

There will be an update to the wallet I believe that will support the opt-in process.   This is on the opt-in date of 15th September.

It happened on the 15th of this month and you don't need to register, just save in a wallet that supports the event, specifically the XEM wallet

There is news regarding the swap of the XEM coin to the Symbol coin. Can anyone suggest whether you need to register somewhere for this?
