I'm trying to do merged mining, but I can't even get I0coin to bootstrap.  It starts with 1 connection, then drops to 0.  Is I0coin dead?
i stoped running a public node due to high memory problem. if this is fixed il happily run a public node again.

It was dead once and was revived and there were merged mining and after that basically disappear from view.

Is this a new trend? trying to have as many altcoins in the front page at once? Should I go revive all the old solidcoin, tenebrix and fairbrix [ann]s?

Sure, if you like.

Is this coin currently mined by some people?

Yes but they come and go a lot because the daemon tends to die every day or two.

All of that should go away once someone cleanly applies the merged mining patches to a stable version of bitcoin so all the merged mined coins have one common codebase to update themselves to/with.

the code does a DNS lookup which fails, afterwards it trys to connect to the and therefore crashes. thats just 1 thing of uglyness, there are tons of memleaks too Tongue

It definitely needs new code.

It tends to die every day or two due to boost doing an assert about the failure of a DNS lookup.

I started it yesterday on another server and had to restart it twice ... and oops, now again:

Code:
************************
EXCEPTION: St9bad_alloc
std::bad_alloc
i0coin in ProcessMessage()

************************
EXCEPTION: St9bad_alloc
std::bad_alloc
i0coin in ProcessMessage()

************************
EXCEPTION: St9bad_alloc
std::bad_alloc
i0coin in ThreadMessageHandler()

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
  what():  std::bad_alloc

I don't know what bad_alloc is really about, it is on a 24 gigs of RAM server, the other server is only 16 gigs and didn't behave like this.

Basically all the merged mined coins all need a code update though. Some day in the not too too distant future some stable new version of bitcoin (maybe 8.2 ?) needs to have the merged mining patches applied to make a repo that each merged mined coin can then work from to update itself.

In the meantime just restarting i0coin when it dies from the DNS lookup seems to work once it has the blockchain; this new install of it with the alloc problem maybe has never even gotten the blockchain yet or maybe the blockchain got corrupted when it died making it die over and over or something,

I0Coin is not dead, but when difficulty gets low exchanges don't want to take the risk of doublespends and such.

Pretty much all the recently launched coins probably have too low difficulty to be secure too or will have shortly so probably once the exchanges have sucked all the juice they can get out of the pump and dum "greater fool theory" instant scam technique the launches are designed to do they'll drift into the background like others before them to be mined quietly by CPU miners for months or years until maybe someone put merged mining into them so they can share Litecoin's hash power to try to get enough difficulty to seem an acceptable riisk again to get back onto the exchanges. (Maybe just for another quick pump and dump then drop them again, unless merged mining does eventually turn out to work.)

Its strange that ixcoin itself is a premined currency and valued, though i0coin isn't and it dies?
Community based effort and work? Makes no sense.

Is it at all possible to have it fixed? Any time in the future, and potentially see a i0coin future?

Considering https://github.com/kr105rlz/i0coin is showing 404 now, is this project officially dead?

doublec was working on a 0.6 btc based i0coin client about a year ago.

https://github.com/doublec/i0coin

I have gone ahead and forked his repository at mine, as this is a project on my list, but not my top priority.

https://github.com/Hartland/i0coin

One can still get the "official binaries" at:

http://i0coin.bitparking.com/

I will place the 32509 source up on my git as a separate repository later, though I would strongly encourage anybody who wants to work on I0coin, to continue with doublec's work.

When I start on the project again , I will be working from my repository.

I have also grabbed a copy of the windows binary in case the bitparking site goes down.

So, K1773R, a memleak, you said? In confirmation code somewhere?

Can you be more specific about where, or what it is leaking, or anything similarly potentially-helpful?

It used to eat twenty-something percent of my RAM, then on a recent restart suddenly its eating close to forty percent, and I am not aware of any particular activity going on that might account for its "sudden" need for twice as much RAM as it had been using for past few weeks or months.
