Hey forum.  I'm psymin.  This guy ->  http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratingdetail.php?nick=psymin&sign=ANY&type=RECV

I thought I had an account on here a year ago, but I guess I don't.

As a just signed up member, I would like to use my first post to say how confusing the implications of this restriction is in so far as there was no clear indication my account was in "newbie-lock" mode and what it takes to get unlocked.

With that said, I eventually found this section (long time lurker, didn't even know this board existed), and agree that this is a very sensible restriction aside from above caveat.

Yeah 4 hours seems pretty strict for a newcomer.. maybe 1 hour would be better?
Actually 4 hours isn't that much, unless you had already lurked for that long and registered just to make a post.

I had over 90 posts before the Mt Gox attack spilled my nether regions all across the hackverse. So I started over. Here in the leper colony!  Actually, I think this is a terrible idea. I was never offended by so-called "trolls" anyway. I found the ancient posters just as annoying as anyone else. In fact, number of posts did not seem to correlate to anything!  Post number 2!

Yep, just posting so that I can post more, nothing to see here.

This isn't the post you're looking for.

Doesn't sound like it. There are some other posts in this forum about this that you might want to look into.

I just read those other posts about people awaiting payment also  Shocked     Hopefully he's just having temporary issues and hasn't become a scammer.. it just seems suspicious that he's basically ignoring my attempts at communication.

Weeeeeell I was going to post some very interesting and adhoc comments in some of the other threads, but was unable to do so.

I understand the reason though, and kudos to the management of this forum... it must be a nightmare now.

I see where this policy is coming from but it seems to be seriously flawed.

1) the four hour limit just means that people will idle, occasionally switching pages to make sure they're still logged in and logging back in if they get auto-logged out. In essence this limit accomplishes absolutely nothing while annoying legitimate users

Yes, but bots won't be able to do anything outside of the newbie forums, and bots posting in the newbie forums are easy to identify and destroy.

Yeah I've just been lurking the forums for a while trying to get my time up, 1 hour milestone ha Wink     hey this is kinda off topic but has anyone else been able to get in contact with BitcoinExchange thru email/im/pm? I've been trying to get in touch with him for 3 days now about my order and I haven't received a single email or instant message back, even though his AIM keeps going from online to offline every 7 or 8 hours

I was wrong about being able to just idle btw. You don't have to post but it seems that you do have to be doing something even if that just means going from thread to thread.

I guess it should help keep out spammers tho. The ones who are too lazy to make enough posts anyways lol

Yeah it does seem kind of strict, but I can definitely see the reasoning behind it. So the slight inconvenience is well worth it in the long run in my opinion.

2) Personally I think the limit should be higher for links. Even though the average user of these forums is going to be smarter than most people who browse the internet, it's still a high risk, especially when pretty much everyone here has bitcoins to lose.

3) .14 --- Sorry, just had to make a pi joke.

4) If anyone who has the power to do so is reading this, the new user policy needs to be better publicized, most forums to do with a global sticky that stays on top of each section's thread listings. That way new users (like me) won't be stuck scrambling around wondering why they can't post and getting frustrated until they either give up or, like me, find their way here.
