Wouldn't make much sense since I only want to contribute to a discussion, not create a new thread.

This restriction is so annoying. I wanted to post in 4 different threads already but couldn't. Why don't you use captchas? Recaptcha keeps my blog spam free since years for instance...

You could post the same things in here.

Maybe Newbies should spend 0.01 Bitcoins to "verify" them.... Wink

It seems like the logged-in-time requirement is actually 4 hours and 5 minutes. I was still a "Newbie" at 4 hours.

Quite annoying. But I'm sure it'll create a better forum in the end.

Hi all Smiley I'm from Italy. I'm following the bitcoin stuff since some time now. I am a verified user in #bitcoin-otc, I have a mtgox account and so on... but I guess it's faster to make 5 posts and stay logged for 4 hours than make a request here Cheesy so...

Anybody else having problems with the "Total time logged in" clock?

I leave myself logged in all the time, I have it logged in on my laptop at work even. I browse through forums, post every now and again here in the Newbie section.

Though I should have multiplied hours on my clock since my last post in this thread, I only have 10 minutes more Huh
8-10 hours would be more accurate.

Maybe one of the admins/moderators could look into this.  Wink

I find it a little annoying that I have been a member, have been active (mostly reading and only replying where it was relevant) and I am now locked down.  I can understand the spam problem though.

At least I won't have far to go eh?  Just gotta wait for the timer to run up while reading up on mining issues.

No kidding... I was clicking through a forum that I read from page 1-33, went to reply and realized no button... Thinking It was a browser Issue, I clicked through a few others... No dice until i hit the front page again.

At least now I don't think the probability is as high that I am crazy.

Hello everyone.

pretty much did the same thing...
at least i'm not the only one...

+1, LOL

I was about to give a nice long rant to a few things posted on one thread, then realised no "quote" link ... no "reply" link..... logoff, log back on.... still no joy... then I caught the text that said newbies can only post to newbie area... lol, damn, and lol again Smiley

damn spammers ruining everything

I wouldn't say "they've" ruined everything.  It's also a good way to cut down on non-spammers (and trolls) who just came in to make some random comment an not actually contribute to a discussion... never to be heard from again.

I can't say that is a bad policy, but let's take me for example: I have 15 hours and 50 minutes of time logged in. I spend a lot of time reading this forum, but I don't always need/have to post something. When I do however, it's not in the Newbies forum Smiley
Anyhow, even if this post is made in order to have 5 posts in total, it makes my point: please consider lifting the minimum posts required in order to reply to a thread. Maybe compensate by increasing the hour criteria.

Relying only on "time online" would be too easy to bypass. As people have mentioned here, you can easily "reload every" the board to get the time with no posts. Requiring some posts ensures that trolls will be noticed here before leaking out into the rest of the board.

If you have even one good post, it will be very easy to get manually whitelisted.
