I must say I don't like this newbie restriction, but that's life.
Like on stackoverflow, quality before quantity I'd say.

Are PM restrictions really opened once you have one post? oh maybe i should log out and then in again :S. I don't see any PM buttons pop up anew...

Idea: some sort of icon for forums with restrictions so you can see at a glance where you can or cannot post. But maybe this already exists and I just didn't notice it.

I have been using the forum for about a year without posting a thing. i just wanted to start getting some posts up to enable the activity in my account. I want to thank everyone who has been a member of the community and also like to welcome all newcomers to bitcoin. After a year of up and down i now see bitcoin emerging as serious alternative to fiat currencies.

On onether note, just found out about BTCJAM.com I strongly encourage everyone to check it out but be careful. It is a peer to peer micro-loan facilitator. it embodies the spirit of bitcoin' therefore it is still vulnerable to scam artists.

thanks,
-mulletwang

:oI must admit...I'm a "bit" overwhelmed by the sized of the bitcoin forum! I only got wind of bitcoin a few weeks ago...and with the Cyprus meltdown...yeah I'd say bitcoin is becoming a household name.

The restrictions are quite irritating when I'm an experienced bitcoiner, have a cool story to tell, and cannot because I didn't make the 5 posts to this forum Sad

It's not very hard to make five posts.

I have been watching the time I have been logged in.  It's said 34 minutes for almost an hour, yet here I am.

When you say "logged in" do you actually mean creating posts?

Reading doesn't count? Do I have to be either typing or moving the mouse all the time?

On other sites, time logged in means just that - time logged in.

Please clarify.

Thanks in advance.

I'm a bit curious as to this as well.  Fortunately, I'm not in a rush to do anything at the moment.

These restrictions were not made clear to me when I registered, so I spent about 10 frustrated minutes trying to figure out how to post...

Thankfully a guy on the sealswithclubs chat helped me out, but come on! Can't we be more clear about this with an email or message?

Yes, me too! Maybe the forum owner could fix it so there is a big notice where the post reply and edit buttons normally are, so that we can see straight away what the restriction is. Just my two cents...

+1 that would be a fine fix, in addition to a welcome page that details the restrictions

How many posts does one have to make in order not to be a newbie any longer then?

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

What would be good is if - in the place of where the quote/reply buttons - usually are, there's a little red notice or something explaining the restriction. Myself and others have spent a few minutes in confusion gawking at the interface and trying to find the relevant buttons with which to post before finally finding that post about Newbie restrictions...

Great site with really useful info, BTW! Cheesy
