Yes, if you don't plan on running them over 100Mhz.

That hub will provide max 0.5A per port. Two fast charging ports can provide more power, but only if the hub is not connected to the PC/RasPi/whatever...

Going along with hurricandave's suggestion of custom usb cables. I'm working on version 2 now, going straight to the jack this time. I hope I can cut down the power usage a little.

So, an update, I underestimated the amount of power I would need by 2X. I have this power supply ordered (5v 60amp) to fix this.

Until then I split it into 2 miners each with its own power supply, pi, hub and 5 sticks

Other than upping the voltage on the 2 sticks with hw errors I'm pretty happy with this speed (1.48v at 300mhz)

I'm running about 200 watts on 10 sticks for 300gh. So I don't think that's overkill, could still use more lol. If you look at the left of my miner you'll see the kill-a-watt. It hovers between 180 - 205 watts.  But that also includes fans, hubs and pi's

Hey man- you know your stuff! I am setting up a 2pac rig with with compacs, what USB port would you go for? I am having the same issue, the power is not evenly distributed through the power hub, had to swap them around- I will have 8 2Pacs and 4 Compacs- so I think I need a decent powered hub.... any ideas ?

Evil beware: We have waffles!
As I discovered with my 7-port, 60W charging hub from Plugable -- pop it open and look at how the power is distributed.

On the Plugable, it takes 12vdc in and has 3 buck regulators taking that down to 5v  for the USB plugs. That said... 1 regulator feeds ports 1 & 2, the 2nd regulator feeds ports 3 & 4, the 3rd feeds ports 5-7. See where this is going?

After futzing around with 2x of the 2PAC's along with an original Compac just plugging them in 1-2-3 I was unable to run all 3 at decent speed without at least 1 stick dropping out. Looked inside the hub and found ^^ so...

Put one 2PAC on port-2, the other on port-4 and the Compac on port-6 so each stick has it's own 5v regulator. Now the Compac is back up to its usual 318.75MHz and the 2PACs are running 175MHz 225MHz giving a total of 65-70ish GHs pointed at solo.kano.org. Lovin' it Cheesy

I placed one in the middle of a desk fan and it lasted a month longer than the other.

Still, poorly tested for flaws...Or maybe I just break things.

Bitcoin FTW!
I killed one with 3 futurebits.

and killed another with 4 du1's.

My "controller" was reporting power surging backwards along the usb 3 line into the computer. so I think it has a design flaw.

Great hub until the bed started smelling funny.

I guess in the defense of superbpag they might not be made to run in a 90-105F ambient room.
That's probably the issue- they dont have the best cooling features with just a copper fin and with so much power running through them something might've malfunctioned in the heat.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
Those superbpag hubs are not great for high power usb miners.

They'll power em for a while but overheat and commit suicide

whats "high power?"

i ran 5 compacs at just under 2 amps each plus an artic usb fan  for months.

did have the artic fan partially aimed at the hub as well as the sticks.

nice find! those blank usb sockets look perfect for direct wiring +5v/gnd from an old atx/meanwell /whatever psu with the data/ground wires from an old usb donor cable wired in.

no worries about melting crap 28 gauge usb power wires there.

I’ll post an update when I get my 2pacs, no doubt. I think I’ll be fine with the setup. I’m dropping the power from what I originally thought I was going to do.  And since this is a hobby and I’m not in this for a profit. I don’t mind revising my creations. I’ll let you guys know what happens regardless.

Leo, your sticks shipped yesterday. btckess is in the next batch of small orders.

This is great news, thanks for the update. I just got everything mounted and tested. Everything works great just need my 2pacs Cheesy
I think it turned out pretty good. The power supply was a little smaller than I thought, 30amps so I'm gonna try to run these guys at 2.2-2.4 amps. Very excited now!!  Grin

total cost around 5 bucks for some double sided tape plus stuff i had laying around.

That is a very nice looking setup you put together there - I hope everything works out after all that work (referencing your concern regarding sending that much current through wire of that gauge)! It looks sound & my bet would be that it will work fine with the 2PAC's! Keep us posted!!

I had/have a bunch of hard drive coolers, like 100+ i got for a great deal .50 each.  These things are unstoppable. The asic that you bought was run by the power supply, raspberry pi, usb hub, and 3 of those 4 fans non-stop for 2 years with zero issues. Which is why I'm using the same setup with the 2pacs. Hopefully the usb extenders will hold up.

And as far as overclocking ... I hope i can get approx. 300gh out of this guy and have it stay nice and cool  Grin

Damn that's a serious cooling setup... wonder how high you'll be able to clock those sticks like that! Also bought one of your block erupters on eBay for my collection, works nice and well, I'll keep it in my drawer until I can get something to display it.
