Been waiting a while to say this, but I am officially a miner now!  LOL.

My little beginner rig went online an hour ago and is happily crunching away.  A second-hand 3 card rig purchased from a member here - I won't out him here if he wants to remain private about it, but if he wants to share that it was him that's his call. But thank you for your guidance and letting me take this off your hands to learn and get started with.  :-)

Now the question is, which of children do I sell to buy more gear? HAHAHA!

I am excited to take this ride with you all, even though I hopped on in a very weird time.  I look forward to this little seed turning into a nice little garden.  I appreciate all the guidance and information I've received from folks here, and hope to some day be able to share what I've learned with somebody else new.

LOL. 1 ETH = 1pc 3090 is coming...

Enjoy my fellow miners.

ETH is topping out again. 1389 a coin

https://etherscan.io/chart/etherprice

and eth diff is over

332 th

https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

Asics be growing.  I was looking at VOSK's thread here:

Topic: Ethereum mining is DOOMED if this happens... EIP-1559

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--5309561

I realize maybe he has it wrong and yeah the fees drop a lot. Say 140% is viabtc and it drops to 98%.

lowest is 96.5%.

that looks bad every 140 you earned drops to 98, but if coins got past 3k

all problems are solved.  It is possible we see growth in hash rate due to asics.

say 332 to 500 a 50% jump

it is possible we see fees drop from 140% to say 100% at viabtc and we still are better off since eth goes to 3k a coin.

say I make 1400 a. month. the fee drop makes me at 1000 a month. the network diff makes me  667 a month. coins go to 3k I am doing 1440 a month.

I don't like eth I am not a fan of eth. but I see more upside to it 3k is possible.

Sell 75% hodl 25%

every 5 days make an adjustment

either sell 80% hodl 20%

or sell 70% hodl 30%

It's a good method, I like the way you do your  mining "business"

In my case I make 4 withdraws per month on Nicehash
I sell the part to pay for electricity, usually is 15% to 20%

And the remaining amount of BTC I sell 50% and send 50% to my hodl wallet (this wallet I'm hodling for at least 50k USD)

In times of bearmarket I usually only sell to pay electricity and hodl the total remaining balance

Yeah I mined ltc at low profit for two years. and converted to over 1 million doge. just hodled it.

I sold 300000 doge at 0.011 cents.

It took years for me to get to this setup.

Btc
eth
doge
ltc

all gear is paid off.

now I just hope for three good months from now to April 15th.

eth may drop a lot.

So waiting is best I can do.

oh i built three braiins two board miners for solo mining ⛏.

heats the house.

I recently got my hands on a cheap mining rig, and it's been mining eth without any problems. So my question for the pros is, what are your strategies for this bull run when it comes to holding vs selling? I'm a day trader, so the motto is to take the money and run. I was thinking of doing the reverse DCA, meaning sell off as soon as I can. Thoughts?

4.4 hmmm I wouldnt buy that.  And yes I do think you are correct that profits will drop 30-50% pretty soon, they have been elevated for an extended period.   Someone please correct my math if I am wrong, but in the last say 6 months since 3080 release, we have grown in hashrate the equivalent of 1 - 1.25 million 3080 GPUs, or say 2 million 5700s.  Considering that represents 700-900 million dollars in gpu sales for 6 months....we can realistically say that (by checking Q4 results of nvidia and AMD which will come out soon I suppose) they did not sell for that much in GPUs, and not all gpus went to mining.  So ASICS are out in very large numbers.

I have 2x 5700 xt coming tomorrow.

and I am on evga's 3000 series que lists for 11 different gpus.

the que list will be slow to fill.

for now i think I do nada.

Probably a dumb question and maybe obvious answer, but what strategies are people using to find cards?  Are there sites that will notify based on availability? Or is it just a matter of finding secret (off the beaten path) sources?  I've been no stranger to finding cards in the past, but the current shortages seem like they far surpass anything from 2017.

In the past 2 bull miner cycles (2013 and 2017) I had decent luck with Craiglists. Basically I had alerts for certain GPUs like back in 2013 I would track the "Radeon 7950/7970/280X/290" and in 2017 something like "R9 290/RX 470/RX 480" and when someone would post an ad, I would get notified.

I would check the price and if it wasn't something outragous I would immediately tell the guy "I AM COMING FROM OUT OF TOWN TO PICK THIS UP ASAP FOR MY SONS BIRTHDAY, PLEASE HOLD IT! WILL PAY ASKING PRICE!!!" And basically would get there as soon as possible.

Only once did someone text me half say saying "Sorry sold it for more". The rest just sold it at the agreed price. One guy if I recall said something like "Can you pay more, I got like 10 people wanting to buy this for 50% more". I would just show them all the money I got in my wallet, which was exactly the asking price, and they gave it to me anyways.

Ahh! Those sure were crazy times. Lucky I don't have to go thru that again.

With gpus selling out like crazy, asics coming in, hashrate going up maybe 350 next week, 400 by next month.  But correct me if im wrong, since the specs say (almost 2 years ago)
38.4gb/s per mixer
72 mixers per chip (1mb)
64 chips on board
So thats 4.6 of memory ?  4.6gb but that would be for 1.5 ? ghs.  since we are seeing almost twice that, can we assume 8gb of mem and/or something else
Hard to find updated info but I havent searched that hard.

Long story short
2600mhs / 3000 w vs 27 x 3080s = 5500+watts
what am I missing here, I doubt the asics are 2x efficient as a 3080, or are they?
cant verify, have to trust very little info

it can do a dag up to 4.4gb which means it has a very short life.

say Sept 1 2021 and it dies.

The key is getting it in hand quickly.

I believe if you get it fast it would be okay.  But if you send in 10k and pay 2500 trump tax you are at 12500 plus shipping 12700.  pay in coin or bank transfer.  and they delay 1 month til feb 28.

in that time the earnings drop to 50 a day or 60 a day  vs 100 a day.

I am pretty sure it pulls about 3200 watts.

at 10k pricetag ... and with ETH POS in about 2 years.

Assume that a unit of this miner 100 bucks per day at current ETH price, ROI in just over 3 months, assume diff level dont go crazy, and the occasional tx fees bonus.

Looks like a positive buy, if you can get one.

Yeah but you need it in under 1 week from your payment time.

I'm going to try this out Phil.  I will then do a blind taste test and compare it with this garbage that came out during my college years!
