How many confirmations does NXT need for a transaction to fully confirm? I sent some over 12 hours ago and it now has 528 confirmations, yet still doesn't show as fully confirmed.  It doesn't seem viable for a currency for this to be normal. Is the network malfunctioning?
720 confirms for fully not rollback.
Generally,10 confirms is enough.

Wow. That's going to take close to a day to process a single transaction. Thanks for the info.

Er, seems to be some confusion here......
10 confirms is more than enough to be spendable, the 720 confirmations/blocks is the rollback limit coded into NXT:

Any word on what's going on with the exchanges? Disabled on bittrex and I tried to withdraw from Cryptsy to a new wallet and nothing coming although cryptsy saying deposit sent.

New to NXT and setting it up is proving a headache, how does one get their first NXT to activate an address?

If you just need to announce your public key, I suggest http://jnxt.org/key

If you need some faucet nxt also, there are some sites for that, but I don't remember them off the top of my head, probably free nxt something..

Thanks that worked  Grin

However Cryptsy NXT withdrawals are broken and bittrex disabled NXT. What's going on?

Just issue a ticket to Cryptsy if you still get problem on withdrawal.

NXT wallet is under maintenance on Bittrex.

Hash: SHA1
Release 1.5.10
[Removed by Daedelus]
sha256:
[Removed by Daedelus]
sha256:
[Removed by Daedelus]

Change log:

Create installer package for Windows and Linux using the IzPack installer.
See https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/issue/283

Added separate linux and windows (cygwin) build and release scripts.

Track and log database query execution times. The new properties:
nxt.statementLogThreshold, nxt.transactionLogThreshold, and
nxt.transactionLogInterval can be used to configure logging of slow queries.

Database performance improvements and optimizations. The account leasing data
has been moved from the account table to a separate account_lease table.
More table indexes have been added or existing ones modified.

Improved JSON encoding performance.

Outbound websockets connections are no longer initiated when using a socks or
http proxy (if system property socksProxyHost or http.proxyHost is defined).

Include expired prunable JSON in API transaction JSON, if available.

To protect public nodes from unneeded extra load, the getState API does not
include counts even if includeCounts=true, unless the adminPassword is either
provided as a parameter, or is not needed.

Added numberOfAccountLeases and numberOfActiveAccountLeases to getState,
showing the total number of scheduled (first lease only) or currently active
account balance leases.

Limit peer details length to 10 characters for version, 20 for application,
30 for platform, and 100 for announced address.

Client UI improvements:

Fixed a bug sometimes not showing notification badge after login.

Improved Bulgarian and Slovak translations.

Fix local signing of upload tagged data and approve transaction

This release will perform a full blockchain rescan on first start.

Updated jetty to version 9.2.11. If unpacking on top of existing installation,
delete the old lib folder first.

UPGRADE! Or fork off  Cheesy

There is extensive discussion of these topics on https://nxtforum.org/monetary-system-153/ start by reading the official documentation and the mint worker documentation then read https://nxtforum.org/monetary-system-153/how-to-setup-miner-for-windows/ there is also extensive discussion how to configure GPU mining.

Can one of the devs give much more detail on the Keccak25 algo?

Who created the Keccak25 implementation? is it stable? can it be abused?

What mining hardware does it run on best?

Is it safer to go with a tried and tested algo like Scrypt or SHA256?

Keccak25 is Keccak i.e. SHA3 with a 25th hashing round. Its probably stable, but I don't think it was formally researched. You can mint it with CPU and GPU.
Is it safer to go with a tried and tested algo like Scrypt or SHA256? probably, unless you like to be Asic resistant.

When creating a new coin how can one set the reward per block? or estimate the time for total circulation to be reached given a min and max difficulty?

The average number of hashes per mint can be calculated as 2^difficulty where difficulty increases linearly from min to max as more currency units are minted.
For example, if min difficulty is set to 20 the number of hashes required to solve a hash at the beginning would be 2^20 =~ 1 Million

Can a dev clarify what happens when mining MS minted coins. What use does that electricity have, does it go to improve the security of the NXT network + payout the MS currency coins OR does it just payout and 'waste' the electricity for nothing?

Minting of MS currency is used for creation of new currency units, it does not help in securing the NXT protocol which is based on Proof Of Stake.

UPGRADE!

Just a gentle reminder that in 16 hours the new features in Nxt will go live....so please get your nodes updated to the 1.5.x branch before then.
http://jnxt.org/countdown/?block=445000
Nodes still running on NRS 1.4.x will run the risk of being forked once block 445,000 drops.....

Latest NRS release:
https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-5-10/

Integrated Windows installer:
https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-5-10/msg181836/#msg181836
If you thought Nxt was a little bit too technical, give this a try.
No configuration needed (hopefully), no scary black windows to deal with.....

Use supernet client lite for example. the client does not need to download the entire blockchain. just download and extract the client, call the html file and you are ready. that's the most easiest way atm, in my opinion.

What's the best and easiest to use wallet at the moment? Had not used NXT for a while, and don't want to start over again with official java client instalation and stuff)

Are there plans for MS currency wallet interface templates? when can these be expected? in the interim, what sources are best to view to get mining up and running?
