Looks like your database got corrupted somehow, maybe when closing Nxt the last time.

For a shortcut instead of re-downloading the blockchain, visit the Nxt Peer Explorer, scroll down and click "Download Nxt Blockchain" in the bottom right. It will get you a zipped copy of the Nxt blockchain updated in the last day. If you start with this downloaded nxt_db, you will be caught up and running in a few minutes.

The reason for the 11 words, or whatever is that is is basically easier for people to remember a list of words than a string of random characters.
