So I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff...:

2) I assume the 8gb flash memory won't be enough to run the OS (btw, what OS are you planning to use?) + NXT client, so how much space, ideally, should I look for? Is 64gb SD enough for OS + .nxt files? It would be nice to have a platform where I can leave my account unlocked without risk of keylogging (since I would keep only NXT files on the cubbie) and I can leave it on when I go on trips.

We need 720 coz TF doesn't work at full potential. Later 720 will be removed.

Significant memory consumption and performance optimizations to reduce the load
on the GC and the total memory requirements. It should be possible to run with -Xmx512M
if needed, more is better but should not be necessary. I hope Raspberry users will be
happy with this release.

This is experimental because of the multiple memory related optimizations, but should
perform better than 0.5.3.

Guys - I am trying to setup hallmarked node and I followed the guide - everything runs properly except that my node is always few blocks behind (like 2-3) but on correct chain. Any idea why it is happening?

I thought about this "darkNXT mining" recently. The problem is that to be successful, a somewhat large number of "miners" needed, and they need to be committed, i.e. no to abandon mining after a week or so without payouts.

Let's do some math. Complexity to "break" an account without a public key is 2^64, or 2^63 on average. According to earlier replies in this thread, there are about 1'000 accounts without public key, or about 2^10. Thus, on 2^53 work on average until at least one account is "broken".

The speed limiting factor is generating of public key from a (random) private key, the reasonable (yet optimistic) estimate is about 8'000-10'000 per second per CPU core, or 2^13.2 per second per CPU core. For 2^53 work this translates to 2^39.8 CPUcore-seconds, or about 110 million CPUcore-days / 300'000 CPU-core-years.

If we are very optimistic and assume that all miners are quad-core and that it is possible to 8x accelerate code by using e.g. AVX, then we'll be looking at "only" about a 3'500'000 Quad-core CPU day / 9'400 Quad-core CPU-years. GPUs won't reduce that figure more than tenfold (and that is *very* optimistic assumption).

So I am not convinced we have enough computing power to reliably mine darkNXT at this moment... To unlock one account per month (with current software) we'll need about 1 million "miners". For highly-optimized (and yet-to-be-seen) software that number drops to about 120'000, which is still pretty high number.

I think this is a great idea! I'm working a lot on mynxt.info and I got Nxt donations from pouncer and bybitcoin (many thanks) for the 20 public nodes I setup as part of their bounties program but nothing so far for the blockchain explorer and alerts system I developed, and their bounties thread is now closed.

The nxt I got won't last much, I have a lot in the pipeline and a little support would go a long way.
