This is exactly the road leading to the cult of a great leader, totalitarianism and fascism but you don't even realize it.
Discuss things without any harm — road to totalitarism? Well, IDK.

Discussing is not but trusting and giving up all decisions to a certain specialist who decides everything certainly is.

Is there any type of leadership in this project that is going to say, X is the official forum. The most authentic information is here at X. Or are we just going to let people blindly navigate this "de-centralized" fairyland because "screw centralization"?

The Wiki and http://www.nxtcrypto.org/ (site, not forum) are your best sources atm.

For the rest, everything is a bit all over the place atm.

No official forum. You would have to decide for yourself: where do you like to be, who do you want to trust etc. It would be confusing at first, but when you take the red pill and stays in wonderland, you will finally be free.

And they all just listen and come at once... We need Jesus for that.

If you're talking about specialists, well, we simply've no choice. But same problems created open source software. So trust not ends on people with open code. You can review it by yourself, if needed. Non-coder to have some effective code'd find or ready code/dev/team or create such team by himself.

Voting (and more important, Global Voting, were coins'll vote and unknown part of current community behind it) doesn't better than request on GitHub, but can do such dangerous things request in GitHub can't.

I changed it to "+" and "-".

I thought about it too. But following in C-f-B steps: "so '+' means I add money to somebody (withdrawal from me) and '-' means I subtract from them (deposit to me)" Smiley

Seriously though, + and - are probably as good as it gets.

Ops, but now "-" looks like a stop sign! It's actually much worse!

I don't really come from outer space.
move to https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/ the "official" Nxt forum.
...

Good job on the looks.

I have to agree.  It's much easier to read now.   I like.

Left and right arrows actually don't mean anything to me, so I just rely on the color (I assume green is in, red is out).

The metaphor I was going for was more of a gather/depart one.  But I'm not a graphics designer.

Not that it matters, but *I* liked it. Solved a problem for me, anyway, trying to figure out if a transaction is incoming/outgoing. 22k.io and blockchain explorer are pretty good visually, but the NXT client is hard to grok at a glance.

But I also agree it's nigh impossible to design something universal. What makes sense to you and me is probably a cipher to someone else.

RaspNXT - a standalone NXT environment for the Raspberry Pi

UPDATE 2014-01-05: NXT 0.5.0 coming soon
UPDATE 2014-01-02: NXT 0.4.8, update script, blockchain-less

This package contains the current stable version of the NXT server and the Embedded Version of Oracle JRE that you can run on your Raspberry Pi as-is. You can get it from my public node server (hash checksums coming soon). This archive contains most of what you might need, including some helpful utilities and scripts.
If you have the JRE already or insist on using another one, try this archive. Both links always link to the newest version of the package. You can get older versions or other stuff from the nxt root of the server.
Notice: Unlike the initial version, there are no block files in this version of the package. This reflects the makeup of the main NXT releases, which are now also blockchain-less. If you would rather use a basic blockchain to update from, but don't have one yet, you can download one of these.

To download and run it on the Pi, do the following steps in a local or remote console. I assume you have the Pi up and running already, using e.g. Raspbian. I myself am using Raspbian, however, the package should also work with other distributions.

Code:
wget http://109.230.224.65/~nxt/nxt_rasppi.tar.gz
tar -xpf nxt_rasppi.tar.gz
chown -R *youruser*:*yourgroup* nxt/
cd nxt
ln -fs webapps/root/WEB-INF/web.xml configfile
./run_nxt.sh

I now have incorporated my public node update script into the package. Called automatically by the run script before starting the JVM, it fetches a list of well-known public nodes and puts them in your config.

You can tweak the JRE call in the run_nxt.sh script if you want. After some testing with the new version, I have found that not that much memory is needed.
Also, I put a symlink in the rootdir called configfile which leads to the web.xml file, for easier access.

I recommend running the server in some sort of backgrounding context, as it is basically a daemon. Use a multiplexer like screen or at least use nohup. For a more comprehensive guide on setting this up, I recommend this how-to which also references this package.

If you want to access the client from another machine - which you probably do want when starting the server or using the Pi as a whole remotely - remember to put your accessing IP or the "*" wildcard (no quotes) as allowed addresses in the configfile.

Have fun with it, and feel free to post some impressions of RaspNXT on your RPi Smiley

Thank you very much! only some problem with java sometimes but i really love your works!

Graviton is on the nextcoin.org forum threatening to take down my guide on trading on Peercover because it states factual information about DGEX's policies. Is this what NXT is about?

move to https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/ the "official" Nxt forum.

NextCoin is Graviton's forum for DGEX. Everyone should move to nxtcrypto because at the least its not watched over by an owner of an exchange.

Good job on the looks.

Color was only an after-thought -- original sketches were black and white.  Don't need color.

You missed the point. The meaning is subjective and you cannot assume that "arrows in" is a universal symbol for deposits.

I think we're actually on the same page.  As I wrote previously, "I never liked the right/left arrows to represent in/out.  Their initial interpretation depends on the direction of the reader's written language (think English vs Hebrew), and perhaps the viewer's concept of the flow-of-time -- where, in that person's mind, things in the past are experienced in relation to things in the future."

I bring it up in the first place specifically because the left/right arrows tend to conflict with my own internal representations.

Ideally it should be a choice of the user to select what icons/graphics/etc best align with his or her own submodalities.  But, well, que sera, sera and all that.

Left and right arrows actually don't mean anything to me, so I just rely on the color (I assume green is in, red is out).

I changed it to "+" and "-".

Not surprising: it's HIS forum.
The problem here is that that forum has been and IS the biggest Nxt forum, but his two hats leads to conflict of interest.
If I were in his position, I'd probably do the same.

NxtCrypto forum is the other one, maybe you would be better off putting it there.

Also: Nextcoin forums dóes deserve props for being instrumental as the first populated forum for Nxt. However, it now becomes problematic that it's viewed as THE official forum, which it isn't.

By specialists, if you means developers like BCNext, CfB and Luc, then they already plan to add voting feature. Why don't you do what you wrote here ? Let them decide ?

Yes, that's how I think it should be. If specialists think it's for good then let's go for it. But we can help them to make a decision by discussing it. That's what we're doing right now.

This is exactly the road leading to the cult of a great leader, totalitarianism and fascism but you don't even realize it. I am going to ignore you and your friend ZeroTheGreat for the time being.
