Guys/girls/things:

I'd just like to say 'Hi' to the NXT community, in my capacity as Infrastructure Committee spokescreature.

As u may remember, the Inf-Com (less typing) consists of :

marcus03, chanc3r, ferment, ChuckOne
and myself.

We've been busy over the last few days since the election, setting up procedures and collaboration tools, as well as considering a few proposals that heve been submitted to us and trying to define our precise role in the further development of NXT.

Most of our work so far can be seen on:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/nxt-nxtinfrastructure-committee-506757

I'm also going to cross post some of the above to nxtcrypto and nextcoin.org, if I find some time.

I'd like to thank all of the NXT community for their trust in us, and remind you all that we are very much open for business.
So, if you have any brilliant ideas/proposals/rantings/requests for funding, get in touch either on our main thread above, or via PM.

Important question: Is Nodecoin (new name needed) an issue for Inf-Com or TechDev-Com ?

Its more a marketing thing

I'd say off hand, any work on helping NodeCoin run is an issue for the Devs, any work on promoting and sharing would come under the MC's remit, but Inf-Com should be thinking long and hard about the amazing things that NodeCoin can do for the network, and how to capitalize on that

i got hundreds of nodecoin every 15 minutes ,when i placed 2000 orders.   you may send nodecoins with only one transaction that will save your many nxt fee.

Before it goes to mainnet, I will have to change it so payouts are much less frequent. Maybe people will even have to pay the cost of redeeming them. That alone would put a floor value to nodecoins, the cost of receiving them.

Hey Wesley

nxt-client works on chrome on my HTC One,  the four squares on the dashboard line up nice, but the menu bar buttons, send message, send next, generate token, settings and log out get overlaid wrong in the CSS and get all jumbled, although they do seem to work.

I'm sure this if far down the list of things but you are SUCH a machine..

EDIT WTF is this so large? screenshot to dropbox to imgur. Oh well.

Expanding on my earlier thought on nodecoins I believe nodecoin's value must be tied to its ability to be exchanged for nxt. Nodecoin is
an asset created by James. Its purpose is to reward Nxt client forging. Therefore James would also be the one to setup an automated gateway
that instantly exchanges nodecoins for nxt.

The nodecoins to nxt exchange rate would be whatever makes those who don't forge now want to forge
for nodecoins. For example, if the average client forging gets 1,000 nodecoins a day and the average nxter is happy with forging if they can get
10 nxt a week, then 7,000 nodecoins = 10 nxt exchange rate.

The key is keeping NXT as the valuable currency. Nodecoins should never have value
on their own. Its sole purpose is to help the Nxt network and make Nxt valuable. People with nodecoins should only be thinking "I can't wait till I can
change these for nxts".

That will keep nxt from devaluing as klee feared and keep nodecoins as a support for nxt. Not a competing coin. Donations
and unclaimed nxt can perhaps fund this until nodecoins are not necessary that is when nxt is a living breathing beast.

I think since nodecoins are rewards for running nodes for nxt maybe we should come up with a way to reward nodecoins. Like some math guy come up with a proper reward
threshold in nxt for a certain amount of nodecoins. We can setup an automatic payout in nxt for nodecoins and fund it by donations or whatever. That way people will always
run nodes because they get free nodecoins which even if a little will be converted to nxt via a gateway or whatever as guaranteed reward.

No, it needs to be self-sustaining.

That would be ideal. But if it isn't and nobody cares about nodecoins then maybe plan B is a direct exchange nodecoins for nxt? For example 10,000 nodecoins for 10 nxt? As nxt increases in value the nodecoin/nxt ratio reward would go down obviously.

Of course this will not last forever. Once nxt is a powerhouse with high value and tons of businesses securing the network nodecoins will not be needed anymore. So we would not
need to have a nodecoin/nxt reward gateway anymore. And by then if nodecoins by themselves happen to have trading value then thats great.

Everyone can also see our list of issues that we've been brainstorming all week. Please post ideas to the thread above or PM us and we'll get them onto the issue tracker for discussion and review.

https://bitbucket.org/nxtinfrastructure/committee/issues?status=new&status=open

This is a great setup! Very informative and organized. Thank you.

Are Tech-Com and Mark-Com preparing a similar tracker?

Hey All

The MC (Marketing Committee, Not Motorcycle Club, although we do have matching leather vests) is working on our agenda, We have a plus.google community set up (we are marketers, not code pushers Wink)
We are planning for a group meeting this weekend to elect our Benevolent Pres.

We have a couple projects on the docket once we get past the niceties, including community submission forms, and a help wanted list, where we will post tasks for hire.

Thank you all for electing us to this position of responsibility. We will give it our all!

Let's call them Nxtcoins so that everybody will stop calling Nxt Nxtcoins

OUTSTANDING.  bravo.  all agreed?

That would be major dumb... As there isn't enough confusion right now ... ^^

i think its clever Cheesy
In fact, nodecoin is the first of many NXTcoins that will be coming out.
It is really a proof of concept that you can make a coin out of an AE asset, well at least it works like a coin for the most part

Now, imagine a NXTcoins that is a blended mix of bitcoin, litecoin, etc.,etc. that is backed by multigateway deposits. Then  we can have assets that trade like coins that are tied to real diversified portfolio of crypto assets, we can even put a .999 silver lining on them!

Problem is, the Nxt chain with TF doesn't need more average nodes, it needs a few powerful nodes. Am I wrong?
If we can define the characteristics of a "powerful node" that I can put into nodecoin, then we can have a higher payout for these nodes

All nodes help the network and already it is clear that getting feedback every minute that you are earning more is much better than, "You will forge sometime in the next 424 years, maybe"

And this is with the PoS NXT peoples!

Using nodecoin as a tipping coin within NXT community sounds like a good idea.

As far as what it is worth, at .01 NXT (min price), that is 1 NXT per minute or around 1,000 NXT per day allocated for the entire network. Maybe 30,000 NXT per month is a bit on the high side, but it is only 1/7th the average forging payout, so maybe it is pretty close.

If we can get 30,000 NXT donated per month (or simply buyers in AE) to fund purchasing nodecoins, then it puts a value at .01 NXT
The more donations (buyers) we get, the more it becomes worth. Maybe it becomes like a "penny", "cent"?

Getting nodecoins automatically is really cool. But someone explain to me when real nodecoins start what is going to give them value? Isn't it a false
assumption that miners will forge to get nodecoins?
Right now miners have so many options of which coin to mine and they choose based on how
easy the difficulty is and how much they can pump and dump it for.
That's why new coins get mined quickly. The miners know there will always
be someone dumb enough to think "ejaculate coin" will be the next big thing and everyone is going to use it to buy groceries so therefore I must
buy some on cryptsy.
What reason would miners have to "mine" nodecoin? Who's going to buy them?

hey Gramps, PoW gives value because the network needs securing. Nodecoin will not be worth much ever, but it will be easy to make, and serve as more of a direct payout than Forging blocks.

This will help the naysayers and minnows who accuse NXT of being a premined scam, and those who dont want to leave their NXT online.

you could set up a node farm, and HELP the network and earn a lot of coins.

But he is right... what for, if it is worthless? What will give it value?
AE bids in NXT by people who want to support the NXT network

Infrastructure committee could put in bids into AE to give nodecoins a floor value. considering that nodeminer uses very little computer resources, there is no reason miners cant run nodeminer in addition to whatever they are mining.

Install NXT, install nodeminer, get nodecoins, which probably wont go to the moon, but its nearly free so why not?

about Asset name:
1. name must contain only digits and latin letters, so Chinese characters are invalid. (OK)
2. aaa = AAA (OK)
3. cannot use '-' in name , so A-A is invalid.(OK)
4. 3-10 characters, so AA is not valid. (OK)

Hi guys,

This is Nodecoin, that James has developed. We need to test it, but I have no idea how I should make it work on Windows:

It is for testnet the following is how to get it compiled and running from command line

git clone https://github.com/jl777/multigateway
cd multigateway
chmod +x run.sh
./run.sh
./nodeminer

I cloned it to my drive, but what now?
Any suggestions?

I got it up and running it seems, so uh.....I'm testing?

Pretty impressive actually considering I'm a complete dipshit in Linux.

Edit: It works, I have Node Coins in my Assets Cheesy

Works for me too - got nodecoin in my assets also!

Question: It appears ok, because I have nodecoin in my account - are the complaints about startForging to be ignored?

Should I set the nxt.conf to enforce POST=False  ?

Maybe you can fix the nodeminer code so it handles POST? That would be nice as I have lots more stuff to write and wont get around to stuff like that for a while

You run it on the same machine as NRS and based on the work your NRS instance does it creates node coins under that account on AE.
I'm running it on all 4 testnxt nodes - generating lots of node coins Smiley
nodecoins send in info about their active peers
the node coin pool tabulates this and rewards the nodes that are in others peer lists
this means that without running nodeminer, if you have an active NXT node, you will automatically get nodecoins

I could change that, but I thought it would be a good thing, as I cant count on a super large percentage of people to run nodeminer. This way, as long as ~10% (maybe even less) run nodeminer, most people that are running active nodes will get nodecoins.

First Post Update

I updated the link on the first post for the AT Development Thread to Ian's CIYAM NXT AT Forum.

I think Ian's CIYAM forum is a good way to foster development and should be used for more NXT dev projects.  Currently, projects can only be funded in BTC, but Ian has offered to add a NXT funding field.  NXT AT project currently has 1.058 BTC allocated to development.

If Come-from-Beyond doesn't have the time or resources to finish parallel blockchains, the community can use Ian's site to fund and develop it.

I also received a message from Copperlark informing me that the crypto exchange UpBit.org is now trading NXT.

thanks for taking a look either way

Huh, instead of a code question you ask a science question about silver.  At last I am in my element (if you'll pardon the pun)!

First of all, something I ran across while researching this that is just plain cool:

http://www.capturedlightning.com/frames/shrinkergallery.html

Here's somebody that talks about shrinkage while casting silver bullets:

http://www.patriciabriggs.com/articles/silver/silverbullet4.shtml

As far as cast silver shrinkage goes, here's a few other references for you to consider.  First, the shrinkage occurs in three stages:

http://thelibraryofmanufacturing.com/metalcasting_operation.html

Also, the thermal coefficient of expansion for silver varies with temperature, from 18.9 at room temp to 27.1 at 1100 K.  This says the first order approx for cubic vol expansion is roughly 3 times that which is 56.7 to 81.3 - in the range you were quoting:

http://www.kayelaby.npl.co.uk/general_physics/2_3/2_3_5.html

Next, this guy measured silver volume expansion in his lab setup in preparation for measuring a copper-iron alloy.  He got  2.56% on cooling and 3.58% on heating, against a tabulated value of 3.4-3.8%.  See pg 20 of the PDF, page 7 of the thesis:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCgQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.diva-portal.org%2Fsmash%2Fget%2Fdiva2%3A218833%2FFULLTEXT01.pdf&ei=-AQhU_vTBsulkQeT4IHQDw&usg=AFQjCNFLhKymiTGSwBWr-prG1LsriM2udA&sig2=HEbEyhcf_FZMEzfRQqqPsQ&bvm=bv.62922401,d.eW0

The book he lists as Ref 32 (the 1976 edition of Smithells Metals Reference Handbook) is here:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CC4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fworldtracker.org%2Fmedia%2Flibrary%2FEngineering%2FMetallurgy%2FSmithells%2520Metals%2520Reference%2520Book%2520(7th%2520Edition).pdf&ei=gAchU9LyHdDSkQfRj4CoAQ&usg=AFQjCNGsZHjMhb-8NW473q7STxAsIM5raQ&sig2=3uvHS5OGsAXxnfkBCnIBQw&bvm=bv.62922401,d.eW0
