The possible drawback is that it will effect many things like pitch conditons, seam conditions, swing conditions. Secondly we as in audience don't want to see roof intervening the height of a 6 do we? nor the batsman would like it.
I am not a fan of closed stadium matches too as there are many issues like you mentioned. It will be batsman friendly and with the current rules all favoring batsman it will be a really boring, i like challenges and if a batsman is able to survive a beautiful spell of bowling then i get excited rather than watching matches in flat pitches.

after all this drama in the end bowling machine replacing human bowlers itself  Grin
That would be a great idea too  Cheesy. may be in the future we might see robotic cricket too .

Rainfall has increased unnaturally this year in many parts of the world. A better solution here would be to make use of closed roof stadiums which would essentially nullify this problem though I feel like there are potential drawbacks due to which they don't use this solution.

Also it will become costly since you have to maintain proper lighting conditions to get the game going.

Agree with @Avirunes, i remember we were discussing this "close roof stadiums " scenario and we came to more or less similar outcome of Flat-dead pitch, No swing, seam, weird effect of dew (still weird but controllable in some extent) and after all this drama in the end bowling machine replacing human bowlers itself  Grin

I remember Afridi hitting a ball which touched the roof of a stadium and created a record. We need more such matches in such stadiums to reduce this rainfall issue.

Is it this: https://www.quora.com/Which-batsman-has-scored-12-runs-in-one-ball? wasn't aware of it but sure is interesting.

First World Cup and now every bilateral series.

All this Rain fiasco brings one funny point too. now time has come, all cricket board and especially ICC should hire some Weather specialist too, so that they can schedule bilateral, ICC tournament more efficiently.  Grin

BCB has gotten their part of revenue but we got nothing but football warm up from Bangladeshi cricketers  Cheesy

All cricket boards are that way. Nobody refunds back the money since they already had made preparations and refunding back all of them will only lead to loss but taking all the ticket money is also not a sensible decision either. At best they can only put a reserve day for match to happen again but that only happen in case of major leagues and world cup competitions like I said earlier.

Haha. Nice point  Cheesy Cheesy Atleast rain is bringing some job or employment opportunities. Still even weather specialist are not all the times correct. But atleast they might saves most of the matches being scheduled from rain affected dates.

Very strange that the entire match got washed off. Rain was not predicted for today and what happened was really unexpected. I am not sure what will happen to the remaining matches. As per the weather agencies, there is hardly any chance for rain. But you never know whether they will be right or not. Feels bad for the Pakistani fans, who waited many years for an international match.

Yeah, you are right. We'll never know if we'll be able to watch the 2nd and the 3rd ODIs. Climate change has taken a toll on international cricket this year, almost all the series experienced rain interference.  And I believe September is post rainy season in Karachi but currently experiencing heavy thunderstorms. But let's hope that we'll be able to watch atleast some cricket on Monday.

Is there a single series happened this year without interfere from rain? I can't remember before the world cup but from the world cup, every series have been effected I think. Ashes (2nd match?), Tri-Nation Series in Bangladesh, South Africa tour of India, Srilanka tour of Pakistan. It's a rainy cricket year. Let's name it  Cheesy

Yeah everywhere this time rain has interrupted the match and this has being frustrating for players , audiences as well. At times it can change the situation of the match and may be series result could also effect due to a washout match And ends as a draw .

I think there should be something like shifting the match to other date in case if rain spoils the match. I really feel sorry for the cricket fans who come out from long way and pay the ticket price to see the match. We had seen reserve dates for crucial stages in WC but now I feel this should be implemented for the normal matches as well.
I am one of that unlucky guy, had to wait in the line for a whole day but no luck, no ticket. Later, I had to convinced my cousin and got the ticket but due to rain, the final was not held. Reserve day should be must for all the matches or refund  Grin BCB has gotten their part of revenue but we got nothing but football warm up from Bangladeshi cricketers  Cheesy

Second ODI is also in trouble may be we have 2 ODI series with Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday still waiting for update but surely Sunday match is also in trouble. Sad
Before the series there was terrorist treat and now we have rain treat, either way the Pakistan people have to wait for a much longer time to watch a match live in their home soil and if the rain continues it is possible that the entire risk that the Srilankan team took will go in vain.
I was planning to bet on Pakistan to win the match but i hope we will see atleast one match.

Terrorist may not attack Srilanka but there's rain to attack the match, toss being delayed due to rain. That sucks, after 10 years, Pakistanis were going to take the taste of playing in home, so does visitors but rain has problem with that.
Let's see who win at the end, Srilanka or Pakistan or rain?
Its really interesting we are playing against Sri Lanka after 10 years and its most heavy rain in last 10 years so lets see what happen we already have 2019 as most worst year for cricket just because of rain may be today again rain won and we have only two ODI's for this series.

It's really a nice gesture from the Sri Lankan team to come back to finish that ever pending series. Hope Pakistan and Pakistani players would again be able to host and participate in cricket without any political restrictions.
This game is just postponed and we also have T20s to see some actions. And the weather predictions are good for the next week.

Rain did win in the end. We have seen rain effecting matches in England and now in Pakistan too.
This will be very sad for the local crowd as they were looking to watch the firs International match after a long period of time. Even the players would be frustrated on not being able to play today.

Rain has been stopped completely now, we can expect a match if no further rain attack comes. It's now being late because of wet outfield. Hopefully we will be able to watch a good match at the end, a t20?
