Fun Fact : In 1900 England and France were up against each other for Olympic gold ( Cricket) England Won the Gold. Only 2 teams participated Cheesy

~Edited~

BTW, only 28 nations participated in the 1900 Olympics. India and Pakistan didn't had a cricket team then.

I guess you are mixing Olympic participant with Cricket participants. Yes, there were 28 nations but for Cricket only 2 English and French.

For me qualification process is more complicated than the duration. The test nations would never agree to play the qualifiers, as they are always used to direct entry. Imagine India playing in a qualifying tournament along with teams such as Nepal and Myanmar. The BCCI will be furious because there is very little money to be made from these matches. My take is that the other issues can be taken care of, but the qualifying requirement is a major obstacle.

Yeah, that's a biggie, but I have a hope that it could be tackle with a voting system. Something similar happened when ICC distributed BCCI's revenue among other members. If I am not wrong, then the final vote count was 9 against 1 during revenue fiasco.

I seriously couldn't believe when I read India won the match. Virat supported the team till the end with Iyer else they had already lost 3 wickets early in the game and needed 160+ runs to chase. So happy for both Virat and Gayle Smiley

Well when I saw India lost their third wicket, I stopped following the match. This morning I woke up and checked the score and wala! India won!! It seemed WI had very good chance to win this match but Kohli and Iyer destroyed them. I always had confidence in Iyer and again he proved his worth in the Indian team.  Great knock from captain Kohli.

Congratulations India for winning the series, it was expected though :-P
In this match we watch real class of Virat I believe he is much ahead of All present and past batsmen in many things I watch all his inning and really enjoy we cannot ignore this match in winning innings now after two clean sweeps look like India is going for another as home team is not good enough to hold them.

Kohli created couple of record with last innings century. Firstly he is now equal Sachin record of maximum century against a country of scoring 9 century by Kohli against WI and Sachin also has 9 against Oz in ODI. Also Kohli is the first batsman to score more than 20k runs in a decade .

^ IMO even T-20 is a very long format for Olympics.

If everyone wants to include cricket in the Olympics, then format needs to be short. Let's say wrap up one game within 3-5 hours max. In that case, T-6 and T-10 can do magic. Let 20-30 teams compete in the Olympics, after the qualification round and strictly no preference to any Test-playing nation.

Make a 4-5 small group, let the 4-5 games start simultaneously on the same day, With this whole circus could finish with in 15 20 days top after that ICC can follow their bilateral stuff for revenue generation.

T20 can be a suitable format of cricket ever finds a place in the Olympic games. 3 hours per match is manageable, IMO. If the teams are split into smaller groups, then the entire tournament can be completed within 8-10 days, as posted by Vishnu above. For me qualification process is more complicated than the duration. The test nations would never agree to play the qualifiers, as they are always used to direct entry. A T20 match lasts around 3 hours and 15 minutes (including the break in between the innings). T10 may take around 1 hour 45 minutes. IMO, 32 teams can be split to 8 groups, with each team playing 3 matches during the group stage. 8 teams qualify for the quarter-finals, 4 to the Semi-finals and two to the finals. The matches can be completed in just 7 days. If you want to include rest-days, then it may take 10 days.

Gayle did play excellent but Virat kholi outclass everyone again and won the match for the Indians. He is in superb form and rightly declared the Man of the match as well as the Man of the series. Well Played !!!

If they are able to agree, they still have to think which format of cricket will they include in Olympics. Test Match is out of question. It will be most likely the T20 format which they might agree upon. I also doubt they will not agree to ODI.

The last time I heard about it, ICC is considering only the T20 version. Also, they don't want a men's tournament. They had proposed to the IOC, to have just the women's tournament in the olympics. Including the men's tournament would mean national teams unable to play lucrative bilateral series for three weeks and the ICC is not happy with that. However the IOC is against that idea and want both the men's as well as the women's tournaments. They are saying that they can't discriminate based on gender. The delaying tactics by the ICC will continue and I don't think that they'd reach a consensus before 2028. I would say that a more realistic target may be 2032 or 2036.

India outclass again WI and this time Kohli did the finishing as now he is getting much better afte the world cup as he is getting his form back. This helped India to not only win the match but also series. Also Iyer cannot be missed out beacuse he as well played quick and cruical role for his 65 runs innings.
The run machine just crossed 20K runs in ODI formats and broke another record. This dude is breaking records left, right and center and I think it might take a long time for anyone to break his insane records.

Iyer gave awesome support as expected of the DD captain and he is clearly playing better cricket than Pant at the moment. Great to see India chase down such a big score in 35 overs. Betting on India is almost always an easy way to win money these days.

If it happens, it will be good for the cricket lovers.
After the World cup, Olympics will be the another title which will come after every 4 years.

Differences exist between the ICC and the IOC. The ICC may not agree with the format. IOC doesn't want to give automatic qualification for any of the teams, while the ICC want direct qualification for the test nations. Another thing is that IOC requires all the athletes to undergo drug testing, which is being opposed by the BCCI. And thirdly, IOC want all the countries to play the qualifying tournament. ICC is against this and don't want the test teams to play qualifiers. Another issue is that ICC allows foreigners to represent a national team. Teams such as UAE and Singapore doesn't have a single national and are entirely made up of individuals holding foreign citizenship. Such players are not allowed in Olympics. Only those with the citizenship of a particular country are allowed to represent it.

Just started watching the match now and noticed they are playing 35 overs game and they have to chase 270 runs. Damn! Rohit got run out and now Dhawan gone. They require a run rate of above 7 and I am losing hope now only. If Virat also gets out, I don't trust Pant and Iyer to manage a partnership of 100+ runs and they need one with 164 runs left now.

Gayle played fabulously in his 301th ODI. So happy for him.

Yea we have rain again and now we have update if West Indies unable to bat again then India is going to chase 194 in 20 overs look like very interesting but we have wait for stop rain again.

This match belongs to West Indies and it will be very unfortunate for them if it is drawn due to rain. They really bat well today.

No mention about Gayle playing his last ODI match but mostly people were cheering him for playing his 300th ODI.

BTW, BCCI wants to include cricket in LA Olympics now by 2028. I feel it's a great opportunity if they recognize Cricket also and was wondering what took them so long to include this sport.
BCCI is the only think stops cricket to be added from olympics,it was the internal politics between ICC and BCCI after the introduction of IPL league.

BCCI was always opposed to the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics and against the globalization of the game. But it was Dave Richardson of South Africa who decided to keep cricket out of Olympics in 2015. The big three (BCCI, CA/ACB and ECB) supported his decision. This decision was reversed with the election of Shashank Manohar as the chairman of the International Cricket Council on November 2015.

Run rate is not a matter if the players not going to complete their 50 overs.WI looks like playing the same so India will target for more wickets now where the WI lacks to hold the game most of the time.
WI is still going strong. Now Hetmyer and Hope is set in the pitch. I suspect WI is aiming for 350+ runs. And they can achieve it easily if Indian bowler do not ball cleverly. This match is still interesting and looking very good for WI.

By the way, by any chance if WI wins then a lot of people will lose money today. :-(

Edit: Rain delay LOL
Good news rain stopped and now Ground staff is taking off all stuff we are going to start again in just few minutes but now we have less overs as we lost some good amount of time and this is going to help West Indies as they already have some good start courtesy of Gayle and Lewis.
Seems like it drizzles again so we have to wait further for the inspection.Hopefully there will be some game left to see some smashes from WI and IND as well.
