I know about the whole crazy time-out incident between Shakib and Matthews during the recently concluded World Cup event, but I wasn't aware that some people are still hung up on it.
These memes are silly and make them look dumb, but are entertaining. Also, the current lineups of both these teams will probably always underperform against bigger teams.
These two are loser teams. Sri Lanka, the world champions of 1996 get bowled out for two digit scores against quality opposition. Bangladesh is where they were ever since they got the test status in 1999. I really appreciate the fact that there is rivalry between these two teams. They are doing a great service to international cricket by playing against each other and thereby avoiding lop-sided matches (which would happen whenever they play against quality opposition such as India, Australia or South Africa).
If these two are loser teams the only winner teams will be India, Australia, New Zealand, England. Probably even South Africa but even that will be a stretch.
Sri Lanka is not the same team that they were even 10 years ago, i absolutely agree. But at the same time, you have to realize what the country has gone through recently. And I do not agree that Bangladesh is in the same place where they were in 2000. Bangladesh had a really good time from 2014 to 2019. Now all the great players are either retiring or not regular players. So this is a transitional period.
For you to say that both themes are loser teams means that you only want to see great teams play cricket. I am not saying that is a problem. Everyone wants to see good cricket be played. But if you want to see good cricket be played in every single match you will have to only watch the top 4 teams play against each other. And I can assure you that even those matches sometimes will be one sided. To improve the popularity of cricket and improve cricket in itself you will have to give chances to these teams. And at this stage when 90% of viewers of cricket are Indian it is a good idea to have other rivalry going on except from the top 4 teams.
