Here New Zealand was cruising comfortably at 109/1, and now they are at 113/4. Both the set batsmen are now back in pavilion (Will Young and Rachin Ravindra). And ironically it is the seamer Azmatullah Omarzai who did the maximum damage (at this point 1-0-1-2). Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have also played their part well, by taking one wicket each.
Looks like another unpredictable match, Afghanistan has one of the best spinners in the world and if New Zealand were chasing then the pressure would have gotten the better, they lost quick wickets but they can recover and set a total around 260 which can be a competitive total considering chasing is difficult in these pitches from the highlights i have seen so far in this tournament.
After the first innings, New Zealand managed to score 288 runs against Afghanistan. A target of 289 runs is not at all a safe target for New Zealand on a wicket like the one played on.

On the kind of wicket played, 300 runs will certainly be a fighting game but since the opponent is Afghanistan, 289 runs is quite a challenging score for the Afghanistan batsmen. Afghanistan team has quality bowlers but lack of quality batsmen due to which they lost most of the matches due to failure of batsmen even though they bowled well. Afghanistan started well against England Afghanistan must start well in the second innings against New Zealand. If they can score 60 to 70 runs without a wicket in the first 10 overs of the power play, Afghanistan will be far ahead in terms of winning this match. Another weakness of Afghanistan if I mention is that if they have a wicket fall then they lose wickets regularly which is a big problem for them.

LOL.. What is happening here. Reminds me of the Sri Lanka vs Australia match two days ago. Sri Lanka was at 157/1, but then suddenly collapsed to 209 all out. Here New Zealand was cruising comfortably at 109/1, and now they are at 113/4. Both the set batsmen are now back in pavilion (Will Young and Rachin Ravindra). The first innings is near to end almost finished and New Zealand plays just ordinary, this is an important match for Afghanistan, and the team of Afghanistan must win this match to qualify in the top 4. This is the first match of Afghanistan which not been held in Delhi because all previous matches of Afghanistan of this World Cup were held in Delhi and this match was hosted by Chennai. If Afghanistan wins today’s match with a good run rate then maybe Afghanistan will go into the top four, and they take the place of Pakistan.

The weakest team of this World Cup did come back, the Netherlands, Australia, and Afghanistan were at the lowest in the points table in the World Cup but now they are all ranked up. As far as the Sri Lanka team has no chance to win this World Cup, but World Cup matches are left so let’s see.

Losing the toss, New Zealand went into bat and collected 86 runs for 1 wicket at the moment. New Zealand finished the powerplay very nicely. If New Zealand can survive like this then New Zealand can score 300 to 350 runs in today's match. On the other hand, if Afghanistan can make New Zealand's wickets fall quickly, they may be able to stop New Zealand before 300 runs.  New Zealand is a very strong and reliable team in this World Cup. New Zealand played three matches in this World Cup and won all three matches while Afghanistan played three matches in this World Cup and won 1 match out of three matches. Afghanistan will have to fight hard to survive in this World Cup otherwise Afghanistan will be knocked out from the next stage. Who do you think will beat New Zealand and win the Afghanistan match today?
After pulling off a resounding win over England, Afghanistan are back on the field today looking to defeat New Zealand. Afghanistan won the toss against New Zealand and elected to field first. The first innings continues with New Zealand scoring 109 for 2 after 20 overs.  According to the current statistics, the two teams are in the right position. Afghanistan will need to build a bit more pressure against New Zealand so that they are under pressure and under pressure to get out by playing the wrong shots. New Zealand are unbeaten so far in this tournament so if Afghanistan bowls well and bats responsibly today they will have a chance to beat New Zealand today.

Usually in long tournaments, every stadium prepares a minimum of 2-3 pitches (Center-Square)on the same ground and they use these pitches on a rotation basis, depending on the schedule.

For Ind vs Aus, they used a center pitch, which offered a decent spin for the Indians. For NZ vs BAN they used different deck (square) and there was virtually no spin to offer and it benefited the Kiwis. So as usual, lot will depend on the pitch.

Oh.. OK.. I overlooked this factor. There is no doubt that playing against Mujeeb and Rashid is going to be challenging. But at the same time, for the first two matches these bowlers got a lot of punishment. And New Zealand top order is in excellent form. So unless the pitch offers exceptional support for the spinners, I am not sure whether Afghanistan will get an advantage. One disadvantage with Afghanistan is that their spinners are quite sought after in franchise T20 leagues. They play all around the world and therefore their variations and tactics are known to everyone.
The presenter mentioned in the pitch report that it's the same pitch as NZ vs BAN so there won't be big assistance for the spinners.

Should be easy for Kiwis as it will lessen the impact of Afghan's spin trio and in 20 overs gameplay it does look like smooth sailing. Poor fielding did play some part, so far they dropped 2 regulation catches.

----------
Dramatic over and 2 quick wickets.

---------
Lol 4th wicket, Afghans are back in the game.

So far, New Zealand has got a good start. There was an early wobble, when Devon Conway got out to Mujeeb Ur Rahman. But after that Will Young and Rachin Ravindra got complete control and they are now at 84/1 after 16 overs. A score of somewhere around 320-330 is possible and against the weak Afghan batting lineup I believe that it will be more than enough. At this point, two teams have 6 points each - New Zealand and India. And even after this round, it is going to remain that way. India's next match is against Bangladesh, BTW.

May be they will play like the last match but there is New Zealand and I think New Zealand is better than England. So New Zealand land will play decently and will win today match.
But this is cricket match so anything can happen at anytime. So we will bind our expectations to any team. But I hope that New Zealand will win today match. Let's see what will happen.? Smiley

New Zealand looks like the most balanced team in the world cup now, even without Kane Williamson. They are not overly dependent on any one batsmen, as Conway, Ravindra, Mitchell and Young have all made runs in the first three matches. And on the bowling front, their pacers have been in good form, especially Matt Henry and Trent Boult. And also, let's not forget the fact that Mitchell Santner is the top wicket taker in the tournament so far. And he has received good support from part-time spinners such as Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips.
New Zealand is in hot form but if it's a typical Chepuk wicket that offers spin then the Afghans will give a tough fight to the Kiwis, you can always bank on spin trio Rashid-Mujeeb-Nabi on the turner.

But in case, they are using square wickets similar to NZ vs BAN then it should be relatively easy for the Kiwis as square wickets won't offer much spin (it didn't in NZ vs BAN).

We have recently witnessed two upsets done by Afghanistan and the Netherlands recently and now everyone is looking for the upset to happen again. This is not how the UPSET works  Smiley  The upsets happen very rarely and we should not expect upsets in every match.

I think the way New Zealand has started the batting today, they should win this match pretty easily. Scoring 84 runs in almost 15 overs with one wicket down means that we are here to see NZ make  350+ or even more runs. Kiwi's aren't looking back after beating England in their first match.  Wink

New Zealand vs Afghanistan
The toss has already been done Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl. Both New Zealand's bowling and batting lines are stronger than Afghanistan. Mujeeb and Rashid are not in good form at present but bowled well against England in the last match and won in the end. Today Afghanistan won the toss and took the bowling, if Afghanistan can stop New Zealand before 250 then Afghanistan will have a chance to win. And if New Zealand can score 300+ then New Zealand will win. Because Afghanistan's batting line is not strong enough to chase 300+ runs and win. So far New Zealand have scored 23 runs in 5 overs. If Devon Conway and Will Young both make a good opening pair, New Zealand will be able to score well.

Yeah.. Afghans just destroyed England with their spin bowling. So New Zealand should be cautious. But at the same time, they won quite comfortably against Bangladesh although the latter had quality spinners in their squad (esp. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz). But then again, Kane Williamson had a terrific match against the Bongs and he is now out of action. Tim Southee is also injured and that is the reason why Lockie Ferguson continues to be part of the playing XI. I would say that the advantage is with New Zealand, but they should not take this match lightly.

Another upset is loading ...?

SA are 99/5 in 22 overs. One more wicket and the tail starts. The Netherlands are bowling very well. They have the golden opportunity to beat the most informed team of this World Cup.
I think the Netherlands will beat SA in today's match. At the moment, the Win probability of the Netherlands is approximately 90%. If they get David Miller's wicket, they will seal their victory. Fingers crossed.

The South African team has been in good form this season. They won by 102 runs against Sri Lanka team. Moreover, they got another big win by 134 runs against Australia, another big power of cricket. After two consecutive wins they lost to the Netherlands by 38 runs. I don't know how everyone in the cricket world is looking at this defeat, but this is another example of how any team can change at any time. I am sure some bettors have lost huge money by this match but winning and losing in the game is part of the game so nothing can be said for sure. But such a big fall in the World Cup will really be remembered by the fans for a long time. I think the Netherlands now have the credentials to beat any team but it's hard to keep up their winning streak.

Lost a decent amount thanks to South Africa messing up against the Dutch out of nowhere. I always liked Bavuma as a batsman, but never as a captain which is why I feel that players like Miller etc could probably be better captains in comparison.

Also, I am not expecting this crazy upset streak to continue in the match between NZ and Afghanistan.

Another Upset is loaded  Wink

Wow, can't believe that strong South Africa is taken down by the young Netherlands team.  They won this match by a good margin of 38 runs and I would call it a comfortable win. At any moment of the game, it does not look like South Africa were anywhere in a position to win this match.

It never looked in the match that South Africa is a weak team. See the innings of Scott Edwards where he made 78 runs in only 69 balls and it was a treat to watch. We saw previously Afghanistan upsetting England and now Netherlands doing the same. This will make further matches more interesting.

Afghanistan will play against New Zealand today. In the previous match, the Afghanistan team surprised everyone and defeated the mighty England team. Will they be able to surprise again in today's match?

New Zealand vs Afghanistan

Afghanistan will play against New Zealand today. In the previous match, the Afghanistan team surprised everyone and defeated the mighty England team. Will they be able to surprise again in today's match?

Both Afghanistan's batsmen and bowlers performed well against England. Especially their bowlers bowled very controlled. And Chennai's pitch in today's match is also spin-friendly. So Afghanistan have a chance to do well in today's match if they play responsibly. New Zealand is a strong team. So Afghanistan's batsmen will have to do well in today's match if they want to defeat New Zealand. The match looks to be a competitive one.
