Qualification based on ICC ranking is shittist rule in ICC playbook and then these nutjobs gives sermons to others, to help em with the so called spreading the game nonsense. No wonder associates nations are not progressing.
IMO WC automatic qualification should be based on only 1-2 points.
- If you're host nation.
- If you were the finalist in the last edition.
And if you don't fall in these 2 categories then simply play the qualification. This also apply to Men's cricket.
Yes and ICC knows that very well. But they don't want to spread the game worldwide, they just want to make their bank/balance bigger. And that is inevitably hurting cricket.
It absolutely doesn't make sense why a team that should have been qualified was not given the chance because their rank is not high enough. Do you think after this incident they are going to be interested in cricket anymore? I don't think so.
I really don't want to offend anyone but I have to say if it was not for the money I think Thailand would have been the team playing in the tournament instead of Pakistan.
It is obviously good for Pakistan that their women's team is getting a good amount of exposure from this tournament. And I really hope that they will be able to make it count. Otherwise, there will be a lot more talks about this same thing in the future.
You will find such shameful incidents only in cricket. In none of the other sports, deserving teams are sidelined and others are given the qualification berths just because the potential revenue can be higher. And this is not something new. Remember the ODI world cup of 2007? India and Pakistan failed to qualify from the first stage, and after that the ICC reduced the number of participating teams from 16 to 10. If revenue is the sole criteria, then why even have the world cup? We can just decide India as the champions and Pakistan as the runners up before playing even a single match.
Yes, I absolutely remember that 2007 world cup. I think because India and Pakistan both having a lot of trouble in their own country and getting a lot of hate from the fans, made the respective cricket boards appeal to the ICC that the team number should be reduced.
I mean it had to be right? Otherwise, if a sports body is always thinking about how to spread the sport worldwide, this shouldn't be an option for them.
