Hello crew,

I made my 2nd trip to Terrahash yesterday afternoon (Thursday July 18th) at 4pm. Amir and Ricky were expecting me and we had a good meeting. Though Amir made vidoes of the board hashing last week, I decided to make a quick video while I was there for confirmation that it is presently happily hashing away. I'm including a link to the video below. I recorded the board's performance on BTCGuild and CGminer  as it was hashing. We spoke about Zurg's order issue (1213 & 1336) and I believe we made some headway. We also discussed the progress of orders for general components and cases. The components and cases will be in stock and ready for assembly. There were no cases on-site for me to take pictures of. The DX Large case is at the fabrication company. Amir said that the DX Mini case is expected to be ready next week. He will post pictures of both cases when they are back at the office. He noted that the Avalon chips look to be all shipping at once, and I agreed that it seems to be the case. They allowed m to take pictures of the 3 Avalon bulk chip purchase invoices which total to 40K chips. I've included a link to the pictures below. We talked for a moment about pre-orders for "assembly only" boards. As he stated in the blog, once chips arrive, they will dedicate 50% of their assembly time to orders where they supply the chips and 50% to assembly only orders. With the speed of their assembly operation they will be able to complete our boards in 2 weeks after chips arrive as promised. After orders are fulfilled, they will set a date to begin taking orders from the public again. I confirmed that all boards will come with one I2C cable. Full cases will have everything needed to run the miner (if you selected to add a PSU). For those of us who did not buy a case, we will need to purchase a PSU (of course), PCIe splitters (If you're running more than 4 boards), and a USB A to Mini B cable. It was a good meeting and I am happy with how everything is coming together. The guys are working hard and doing a great job.

Visit #2 Main Topics Covered:

1. The K16 is hashing well and is still being optimized.
2. Components and cases are on schedule for projected assembly dates.
3. 40,000 chips on order have been confirmed. Orders dates/quantities are as follows: May 10th (10k), May 18th (10k), June 20th (20k)
4. Assembly will be split evenly between full board orders (chips provided by TH), and assembly only boards. All are scheduled to be completed within two weeks from arrival of chips.
5. All boards will come with (1) I2C cable.
6. Non case purchasers will have to purchase a PSU capable of powering all of your cards (with a little overhead left.. my preference), PCIe splitters (for more than 4 card miners), and a "USB A to Mini B" cable to connect the host board to your PC or Raspi.

I want to get more miners assembled - where can I purchase Avalon chips from an early buy?
Thanks for the help!  Smiley

Willing to sell my 2x K64's and 1 K16's on Preorder #591 for $2600. PM me if your interested.
Just cancel your order. You should never have placed it if you didn't plan on mining with it. All you are doing is allowing people to skip line who were too stupid or lazy or unprepared to get in line with everyone else.

Which is a service stupid, lazy people like me appreciate.
I'm stupid, yet you don't know how to use commas.

Sir, you read it wrong. Please see Comma Usage #5 for more info :-P

3 questions for Amir / Terrahash:

1) A normal PSU does not have 10 or 20 connectors with 6 pin so ... Does DX Mini case come with adapters for 20 modules even if I ordered only 10 ? If yes, I assume this adapters are available even if I ordered the case without PSU.

2) Similar question about cooling system and fans ... I assume DX Mini case will have full cooling for 20 modules regardless of number of modules ordered in the case ...

3) How many USB cables I need to use to connect a DX Mini with 10 boards to a computer ? Do I need 1 (from DX Mini to computer) or 10 (for each module) ? I hope only one ...

My concern is about a possible upgrade (buy more modules) and I wand to understand if I need anything else other than plug in the module itself. Do I need any extra cable or adapter or anything else ...

Terrahash, based on your message I assume the answer to my 3rd question is 1 USB cable to PC ... I2C jumper cable (provided by Terrahash) is used as connection between K16 boards.

The I2C connector is 4 pins. There are 4 connectors on each board. 2 on both sides of the USB connector and 2 on the edges right next to the edge with the USB connector. The 3 Pin connector is for the fan. TerraHash boards will each come with a I2C jumper cable to daisy chain the board with another one.

Please, can you please comment on my first 2 questions ?

Terrahash,

Do you have any update on the DX Mini case ? We are still waiting to see at least some drawing / rendering if not real picture of the case.

Thanks,
Jake

So folks who ordered chips on April 15 got them today:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/april-15-chips-arrive-258231

So if Terrahash ordered theirs on May 10, does it not stand to reason they will be delivered around August 13?

Thoughts?

Based on all those pictures that have been posted of tons of Avalon chips at the warehouse, I would think (hope?) that they are going to be filling a lot of backorders in very short order.  I don't think it would necessarily follow that orders place 1 month apart would be filled 1 month apart.

Hope you are right!!!

Unfortunately TH is very sluggish in this - I tried to make a deal with btceic and another member with no success...
If KnC succeeds along with Bitfury and maybe AMC and/or labcoin, I don't think I will look again back at TH...
That's why customers need variety of choices - then totally unacceptable and unproffesional behaviors like these are harshly punished!

fyi all, I received my full refund today with no dispute by terrahash, (they never replied to the claim) and as previously stated will now stfu about it, which I am sure many of you will be happy about.

klee,
I appreciate you trying to work with terrahash on this issue with me.

I wish you all the best of luck.
Same to you dude!

Interesting, so who's chips are shown in that pic? as far as TH orders, it would be hard to say if their order would follow suit time wise"  but does make ya wonder...lol

BKK Thank you for giving us a better understanding on the molex/pci e connectors, and the significance of the gauge wire to use...very helpful!  Maybe a little guidance on the daisy chain woes if any, would be useful...even though it seems pretty straight forward. and chaining k64 and k16 together?  Smiley

To clear up a lot of discussion here about PCIe connectors and splitters etc. Regardless of what the PCIe standards indicate a power cable and connector does not "provide wattage" - they merely transport current as used by your device. What matters is how hot the cable and assembly get for a certain amount of current flowing through them.

Molex rates their connectors according to a certain rise in temperature that they consider safe. The PCIe standards take this rating and downgrade it to be conservative given that many suppliers use lighter gauge wire that will heat up and melt more quickly.

If you use decent 18 ga. wire as rated by Molex, and their connectors, then it is reasonable to use the rated current per pin within a safety factor. As long as the PSU can supply the power, the cables don't somehow limit or prevent power from being used. They simply heat up when too much power is drawn, and consume a small amount depending on their resistance.

So the standard 45558-0003 PCIe connector is rated at 8A per contact, and 3 contacts are being used for 12V to the board, putting a connector based limit of 24A, or 288W. Limits placed lower than that are based on wire gauge and more conservative safety factors but do not mean a cable cannot handle the current. They simply heat up more than if they carry less current. Splitters are fine if they use adequate gauge wire for each leg of the split. Stay away from light gauge wires no matter what the standard dictate - light gauge = higher resistance = more power loss to heat in the cables.

18ga. is what the Molex connectors are rated for but they can be used with as thin as 24ga. according to their docs. It's possible to buy pins that go 22 -26 ga. And some Chinese cable assemblies probably use cheap copy connectors. Choose accordingly.

Thanks for that info BKK. Very helpful. Gives us a good idea as to what quality of wire we should look for in the splitters for our multiple k16 board units. I was always under the impression that PCIe power cables could handle at least 150W a piece. It's nice to know that a high quality PSU(cables, etc) can put out more through each cable. I think I'll keep it at 4 cards per cable to be safe.
