I'm not certain if multi-mining ASICs have a future, or are just a novelty.  The SHA256 on chip almost feels like a hedge, but the implicit exchange rate of the chip could have repercussions if deployed large-scale.

Totally agree. To me the combo portion makes it harder to support on the SW side, and usually someone will have decided which they will be mining. And, to be honest, I think it made all of these pieces seem more suspect. Sounds like others may have thought the same.

I've poked LightningASIC.  They said you'd attempted to contact them before when they were overwhelmed with other responses, and that they'd try to get in touch tomorrow.  They're a reseller of the generic Gridseed units, but there's rumor of other products from them as well, so it might be a relationship worth establishing now.

That's awesome - I really appreciate it. I try to keep up good communications with anyone who wants to support us, and do my best to support them in return in bfgminer, MultiMiner, OS X support, how-tos, etc. etc.

I must admit they really do look interesting, even in the first generation.

I'm hopeful things work out as I'd love to get these guys working in MultiMiner.

What does the bfgminer screen say, though?  That's kinda the important bit.
Seems to be mining away normally - but just with the erupter

Just thought there was a quick & eay fix - I can get the Ant mining on it's own, hardly worth the efffort for the Erupter a few cent every 24 hrs

Thx, appreciate the help, not going to waste time trying Smiley

power off the ants

start bfg with the erupters (  -S erupter:all  )

power up the ants

start another session of bfg for the ants  (  -S antminer:all )

They work as independent systems, really.  You have X SHA256 units, and Y Scrypt units, and each has its own serial interface on the GC3355 chip, so you can run either one or both at the same time.  The tradeoff is where you want to spend the power, really...  they're more efficient running in one of the single modes.

WAIT!  So that dual miner usb thing is real?  How the hell does it work?  I hope you get a few to test out and verify because that would beat the pants off using a CPU or AMD 5450 GPU.  I thought it was just a scam and someone put a different aluminum label on a block erupter.  If they're real I'd get them mostly for the scrypt component, but would enjoy the few extra MH/s of SHA256 mining that I could get out of it...

EDIT: Besides wearing awesome toe socks, I do have some experience with C++ and wish that I could find some way to contribute to the development and upkeep of BFGMiner.
Yeah, they're real.  I have one of the 5-chip units, and they plod along nicely.  Still gathering data on it to post a review.

Yes if you are US based here is a good Group Buy.  He just started one for the 5 chip versions as well.

I certainly will.
I have also prodded the developers of MMC to see if they would work with you two to get support for MMC CPU&GPU mining added into BFG and MuM.  I like mining MMC but it's a pain to have to run another miner prog to do so.

I hope they get back to you soon and get you some samples.  I am not looking forward to having to run their version of cgminer to run them.

Feel free to prod them and let them know they should be sending these things to the authors of miners ahead of time. I'm still not sure why that's so hard to do or why they don't see the worth in it. I think most of the HW manufacturers just care about their HW "mining", not what miners are used and how their users are actually supported on the SW side.

I'll be honest; that was a surprise.  I've drifted in and out of the bitcoin community for a while now, and my expectations are low.  I'm glad to see a professional response.

I had assumed there would be no interest since the Gridseed chips have a Scrypt component.

This isn't the cgminer thread...  Cheesy

I'll talk to LightningASIC about getting a sample unit to one of you two.  I had assumed there would be no interest since the Gridseed chips have a Scrypt component.

I think there's a lot of assumptions or miscommunication on that part (not by you - just in general).

I've asked pretty much all of the Scrypt ASIC manufs and had no luck so far. Right now I think bfgminer is the obvious choice for them. The only other two miners either a) don't support Scrypt or b) don't support ASICs. bfgminer supports both and more.

bfgminer has not and is not dropping Scrypt support, not dropping GPU support, and is always looking to support new and interesting hardware and algorithms.

Do not mistake any single bfgminer author's opinion on alt-coins as a statement of what the bfgminer software will support for technologies. They are unrelated.

Edit: We're always looking for contributors too. We just had a new fellow in IRC yesterday who is getting a dev environment setup and will also be helping with the Scrypt support in bfgminer.

Can you introduce compatibility for the new Gridseed dual miners?

Once Luke and / or I have the hardware we can work on support. I've contacted the manufacturers asking for sample hardware.

Yes - try running bfgminer with the following arguments:

Code:
bfgminer -S erupter:all -S antminer:all
Tried that but seems from BTC Guild workers that only the erupter is working

Just wondering if I can run 2 different USB ASICs (Antminer + Block Erupter) on same Win 7 PC using BFGMiner ?

I had a Block Erupter running and connected he Antminer hoping it would just see it and use it - no joy

Yes - try running bfgminer with the following arguments:

Code:
bfgminer -S erupter:all -S antminer:all

Thanks - wow speedy response
