What term retirement usually denotes to is, to stop working. People often don't like job, so to retire usually tends to be on top of the list. However, if one likes what he does, he will do something similar to pass the time even after retirement.

Now, I'll be honest, I dunno what I am driving at but I wanted to spark topic about retirement. Now, you go,

Many of us dream of retiring when we reach the age of retirement, but when we finally reach that point in life, we find ourselves with nothing to do. I know many people who have retired and then returned to their old jobs or found a similar one because they had nothing to keep them occupied. Sadly, some people can't even afford to retire because their salary is not enough to support them.

Hopefully, I can retire at a nice age to enjoy a relaxed life, enjoying vacation in many countries, living a life without problem in financial.

Well in the ordinary, retirement sounds like it's game over for an individual but I think there is more to life than waking up everyday and just going to your place of work as a routine. There are some fundermental factors that keeps the individual going even after retirement, now if you have been working in a Government or private organization where you served for decades and it comes to the point where you are ready for retirement, it becomes an opportunity for the individual to explore new horizons, take on new adventures or endeavours that will add value to him or her in the future, because retirement is not tiredness, you could be a consultant in your field of expertise because of the wealth of experience you've gathered over the years.

I think retirement has to basically do with the fact that one has made up their minds willingly or voluntarily to take a break from working or one has reached the age at which they would need be retired from working. At this age, the rate at which their productiveness was before had declined and would need a productive age to take over from them.

On retirement,  if you are a public servant, you will be entitled to gratuity and pension which should be paid to you but if as an individual, you should have a multiple streams of income running with huge return to sustain you and cater for the needs of your family and loved ones. But even at that, one needs to be very much active and engaged in other activities to keep life going. This activities can be what they like doing most to catch fun while they are still strong and healthy.

Perhaps retirement is also very different depending on a country. In my country, retired people receive pensions from taxpayers' money, but the system has been getting worse alongside with the worsening economic conditions on my country, so fewer and fewer people are considered eligible for pensions, and the amount of money provided by the government as a pension is usually well below what's necessary for survival, so people have to either continue working, or rely on their younger relatives to provide them with some support. To me, the idea of retirement is about slowing down, stopping to work as much as before. But a person can and should still continue to do meaningful things that they enjoy, so that life remains fulfilling and worth living.

I guess it boils down to whether your job feels like a chore or a passion. If you love what you do, retirement might just be a chance to switch gears rather than hit the brakes.

For me, the term retirement refers to not being forced to do any work, so that if I do not go to work, I will not struggle to pay the rent or buy the necessities of the day. It may not necessarily mean getting older as much as having enough money for the rest of my life if I decide to live a normal life. Or in other words, according to my country, the amount of $2,500 is sufficient for an average life, and therefore I consider retirement as my obtaining one million and $200,000 as sufficient costs for 40 years from now.

If you come to the retirement age it doesn't mean you can now relax and stop what you like to do. If you love your job and wanted to continue working that would be fine as long as the employer continue to hire you. Some old people really want to continue working as they fee like they are getting weaker everyday if they do nothing. Unlike if they continue working, they muscle gets enough exercise and they feel more productive than do nothing and sit inside their home.

It's all about your choice whether you completely stop working and enjoy your pension or continue working to earn extra money and be productive everyday by moving around and working as usual.

This concept of retirement are been refer to as working under a government institution or employed under someone. If they are not amongst the two aforementioned, there won’t be a case of retirement unless the person is not capable of working again due to a disability or aging. Retirement is more like working under the control of someone for a particular time before for a deadline to give space to others. Having passion for a work you’re doing cannot stop you from doing it even after retirement, you can always continue to work on your own and being your own boss if you have the means to start it up. Mostly those that are employed under a person initially don’t always get the chance to be a boss of their own even after retirement because of the time they’ve spent building other people’s business instead of their own.

We have different perspectives on retirement.
As for me, my definition of retirement is that you can do everything that you want without any hindrances whatsoever.

Retirement for me doesn't mean that you will stop working because as long as you can still work, as much as possible work for you to get money. Retirement for me means that you can do everything of your own free will. Some want to do something but they can't because they have a 9-5 job. I've seen many old people who are still working even though they are at the age where they can retire because they love what they're doing. That's my other definition of retirement. To do everything that you love of your own free will without thinking of anything that will just make you stressed.

Overall, different people have different definitions of retirement, but if you can still work for some reason then at least work as long as you love what you're doing.

In many countries, pensions are so small that a person is often forced to look for various part-time jobs (if health permits). Therefore, not everyone can enjoy their free time. Yes, there are few options for pensioners to earn money, but they are there

When it comes to retirement, it talks about having a rest and enjoy the things that you can't do while you are working like having a vacation, spending quality time with your family and give yourself a time to engage in your hobbies. Sometimes, people who's retired doesn't want to stop on what they are currently doing, that's why there's a lot who's still working after their retirement age because they used to do it and they  want to share their knowledge and expertise to the younger generations. Also one of the reason why people choose to continue on what they are doing because when they stop, they feel more weak, especially since the mind and body are used to the things they do.

If you see that there are many people who have got jobs in government agencies but they are praying to retire sooner, that means you are seeing a group of lazy people in these government agencies. Because in my area there are still many people competing to become civil servants and hoping to be able to work in government agencies at any salary. So, in my opinion, it would be quite strange if those who still have work experience hope to retire early, even though it is not yet the time to retire.

Meanwhile, those who are still willing to work even though it is time to retire are people who are diligent and creative enough to appreciate the time and work they have. Because they are usually quite aware that there are still many people who are struggling to get jobs in any agency by continuing to take exams and administrative requirements so they can pass and be accepted into government agencies. So we can differentiate between lazy people and selfless hard workers.

Retirement occurs when we no longer work as usual and no longer receive the usual salary each month. The work we do when we are not retired will get used to it when we retire. I don't think there is a worker who doesn't like work while still active.
My definite goal when I retire is to enjoy time with the work that I often did as a hobby at that time.

In my place, the term pension is still getting a regular salary every month for those who work as government employees. For those who work outside the government, I rarely find them receiving benefits from the company they have worked for.

Retirement does not mean complete rest. For example, civil servants who have a running business want to retire quickly and continue the work we are involved in to make the most of it and when someone who doesn't have the skills to work even though he has worked in the government, once he retires, he doesn't know what to do and that's called total retirement. .

Should you choose to retire on time or retire at the right time?

And before you decide, let me tell you a little bit about what it means to retire on time and retire at the right time.
What is meant by retiring on time, you will retire according to your age, and the average person retires at the age of 59 years to the age of 65 years. The average person retires at that age because their abilities and physical strength are no longer strong if they have to continue working. And plus at that age, it's very vulnerable for someone to get sick. And that's regardless of whether they have enough money to live on or not.

Meanwhile, what is meant by retiring at the right time. When you have enough savings, an investment or a business that even without your presence the business is still running, because you have people who are trusted enough to be able to run the business that you have started from scratch. And if you have all or any of these three factors, then you can choose to retire at any age. Because you already have the assurance that without you working, your needs will still be met, without having to ask a child or ask someone else.

Most of people can't retire, so they will be used to work entire of their life. Only old money or someone who work become rich when they were young that doesn't looking to make more money when they're already old and people who willing to work for God.

Average Joe will work under someone company or work in their own small business, even you're an owner of big companies that can work without you. You're still need to evaluate your company and making an important decision when it's needed.

I don't know how's life in other country but in here where I live, nowadays I don't think retirement is still that much relevant. I could divide people into two groups, the first one is people who doesn't has many option for their job just took any job, most of the time low-paying job, they most likely hate their job, but they can't afford retirement because there is no money left from their salary to be saved. The other group is people who are people who can get the job that they like and they keep working even after the age of retirement, even after they quit their job they still working sometimes as a consultant, even tho they can afford retirement they do not completely retired.
You seriously need to get out of that country that you're from if that's the norm on the retirement is because that's downright sad that the notion of retirement sounds like a choice and not the fate of working your ass off for a long time. Maybe if the workers made unions and try to ask for a fair wage that's updated to the current standard of living, maybe we would see less and less people becoming miserable with their jobs, that's the only way that workers aren't going to become robots that would look at retirement as a death sentence for their livelihood.

Even those who love work do not like restrictions. I can love my work, but if a specific number of compulsory hours are set for each day, I will definitely not like this work. If the work is without working hours and without specific tasks that must be carried out, it may not be profitable for the employer. People don't hate jobs as much as the obligations that come from these jobs, which are often a deduction from time for leisure, hobbies, jobs, or other things.

Retirement is when you can enjoy your life without pressure. It's a situation where you usually don't have problems with money anymore, and you can do anything you want within your budget. People typically retire when they are older because no one works forever; our bodies and minds depreciate, and we cannot compete with the younger generation.

However, there are also individuals who retire from their jobs and start a new business. This isn't easy because owning a business entails more pressure than working for an employer. However, with high risk comes the potential for big rewards. If the business succeeds, you'll likely retire early and enjoy the retirement life, where money works for you.

I think the OP is right, and I see it that way. It's one thing if your job is a physical job with a certain level of risk and you're not passionate about it, like working in a mine or on an assembly line. But come retirement age, if you have some intellectual jobs that you enjoy doing, why not keep doing them? A clear example would be the signature campaigns on this forum. I don't think that if someone retires this year from their main job, they are going to stop doing signature campaigns because they have 'retired', when it is a fun activity that can be done comfortably from home with their pyjamas on and with free time. An example, I think, would be philipma1957, who already receives a pension and is on a forum's signature campaign.
