it is expected for the price to go down during the Christmas and New Year holidays
poeple will need some cash and some will be selling, also the price peaked at the almost all time high
some were happy to sell at 970$ ish, hence the price stabilised at approximately 950$ with chinese exchanges volumes go down
I think we are looking at a lull untill 5-8th of January

But in reality it only went up. It will forever be known as the christmas pump.

If that would be the truth what are you talking, bitcoin will fall on Christmas and new year holidays, because of many people would cash out their bitcoins for presents and other staff. But I don't see it's happening. I see the price continue to grow. I see on the exchanger that I always use the price is 1030$.

Hate to burst the bubble but it looks like it wont reach the $1000 mark. It failed a few times on bitfinex and bitstamp and now it seems to be in a descending triangle and those always break low. Be very careful trading this monster.

It traded on Yobit for $1080 this morning and over $1000 on all  the Chinese exchanges

The big problem is the banks are closed for a lot of people until the 4th of January,   several people wanted to buy from me but I ain't selling in this range and they will have to wait for the new year and buy from exchanges like everyone  else

I am not going near my cold storage coins to sell to people I have been telling for years to buy bitcoins and many of them didn't and want in now for the ride to 10k

The question is: after $1000, just how far do you think BTC will drop back? Could we see the days of $500 from August again, or are we stable above $800-900?

We just speculating here, I wish everyone to take a look at this topic:
"We got hacked" coming!  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/we-got-hacked-coming-1732340
I see connection here, hacks are reason why price is dropping. In topic above you can find out that after first big rise MtGox was hacked, and after other spikes that bitcoin price had same thing happened. Interesting fact for me is how many bitcoins were stolen in every hack. Mt Gox lost 744,408 BTC,  119,756 BTC stolen from Bitfinex, big difference in amount of coins and in price in dollars. Looks like drop depends from amount of stolen bitcoins. Exchanges now doesnt have so many coins in wallets like MtGox had.
To be short, if there is no hack maybe price can stay high. If exchange sites are better protected now, and if they have some kind insurance (bitfinex recovered fast after hack) maybe there will be no drop.

Well this time very small chance to drop back down to $500/BTC.bitcoin is now pretty much stable and I don't think bitcoin will be drop from this position.I am pretty much positive this time I saw some people said bitcoin will cross $1000 next year, I think still have chance to increase price and cross $1000.so forget about drop back down.lets see what will happen future. With $1000 in the not too distant future and the ensuing sell off (I'm sure many consider this a psychological target to sell 20-50% of their bitcoins for profit, if only to re-invest after the drop).

The question is: after $1000, just how far do you think BTC will drop back? Could we see the days of $500 from August again, or are we stable above $800-900?

As it reach to $1000 by new year i think it will drop back to $900 or below and it is stable on that price . We should be glad to see bitcoin price reach at 1k and we dont know if we could see it again sooner or later. But it is just speculations we dont know the exact price of drop but im sure it will drop soon.

well I am also hoping that the price will just fall back to $900 even $800 could be good in my view . as of now the price seemed to be very active that it could hit $1000 as soon as possible and it would be great as I'm going to see it become $1000 price value for the first time . all of us didn't know what will be the exact price of bitcoin after it drops back so let's just see what will happen in the next couple of months .

things have always been unpredictable in bitcoin. and whenever there is a rise things become harder to predict also.

my speculation is that the $1000-$1200 range is going to be a tough range for us and only because of the mentality of people about this price, it has been over a year that i keep hearing people say they want to sell when $1000 is reached. and many of them will actually do it too.

looks like I was wrong and we are heading to the 1000$ mark pretty fast
also Huobi has already breached the 1000$ mark today, even if briefly
with the megaupload 2.0 launch early January we could see even more spikes

I would welcome the "days of August of $500" again. Please let it happen, I would be very happy to pick up those coins and add them all to my cold wallet. Bitcoin has been proven time and time again that it has not reached its full potential value yet. The dark markets is a potential billion US Dollar market with Bitcoin in the middle of it all, supporting it. Where do you think Bitcoin's price be in 5 years time? It will be higher than it is now.

there are many traders that will welcome a lot higher low prices (such as $800, $790 and $750) with all the money they have. so be sure your dream of $500 days will never come true since the buy support is pretty strong and growing stronger each day.

That is true. The more Bitcoin rises higher and higher the less it is likely to go back to $500. I believe all of us would agree that it may never go back to the days of a $100 per Bitcoin unless something really horrendous happens to the network like Satoshi suddenly dumps all his coins in the market. Or maybe even some movement of his funds from wallet to wallet could affect the price in a bad way.

I can see it dropping like a rock once it hits that mark.
It is a psychological wall that happens when something gets to that much in value people start to panic and do disturbing things like sell it off then that affects the price of bitcoin significantly, but in a negative way.

Some people will take profits when it hits that point. Others who bought at near $1000 in 2013 will cash out. So there might be a pullback. But for people in China, which has undergone six devaluations this year, or India where cash is under attack, it will still be worth buying.

So there might be a pullback, a breather, and then another push up to $1200.
