As far as I remember my friend introduce bitcointalk to me late year 2016. Those year I'm involved in playing gambling online that pays bitcoin, faucets and investing into hyip. I am grateful that a friend introduces this forum because I have really gained knowledge and at the same time earning bitcoin.

Man, I have to check back my earliest post to find out.

So how I came here, was during the Bitcoin boom and lost my access to some Bitcoin wallet private key. Did some search on Google and tadaa, Bitcointalk!

Despite that it happened more than 5 years ago, I still remember it perfectly. Damn, time flies so fast... I was looking for Bitcoin forum in my native language, so I entered "bitcoin forumas" in Google search. And I was disappointed about search results, because I didn't found any decent local forums about Bitcoin.
But then I noticed this topic from "Other languages and locations" in search results - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/lietuviai-lithuanian-24339. Unfortunately, it wasn't very active, so I started to look into other sections of Bitcointalk. I was lurking here for half year maybe without having account, until I decided to sign up. But then I didn't made any posts and forgot about account. And then I came back here after 4 or 5 months and the rest is history.

Everyone has a dirty secret.
Here’s mine.
Yes, I am guilty: I came on Bitcointalk because I was told by a random person of an AirDrop of a shitcoin, rewarding Bitcointalk users.
I already was a bitcoin zealot at the time, and I knew about the shitcoins, forks and airdrops because they gave me the possibility to grow my bitcoin stash, as I methodically sold each one of them at the first possibility.

I casually had already encountered Bitcointalk in the past, but it never clicked to me. I was studying and learning about bitcoin with other means (websites, telegram, Reddit etc).
But when I had to write a few posts to raise a little bit my merit status (I think I had to rake 10 merits minimum to qualify to that particular AirDrop) bang! It clicked.
The rest is history.
(All the details are in my post history btw, I never deleted shameful posts).

Great thread ddmrddmr. Remembering the first days here made me realise how long the path has gone, and how much the forum has given to me during this months.

EDIT: I went down the memory road and re-read the first merited post (my third overall post- didn't remember that):
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.40921522

I can say it aged well.

Prior to 2018, I knew nothing about bitcoin or cryptocurrency asides the idea that it could be mined, and also never much attention to it. I got introduced to bitcoin and bitcointalk by an acquaintance/friend, just after the fall of the bull run (hard luck). I had a few stints in a couple of other cryptocurrency websites before settling on BT.
It's been a journey since then and I've introduced a couple of people personally to this forum myself.

Mine wasn't a lot different than yours, DdmrDdmr.
Actually, I heard about the buzzing word 'Bcoin Bcoin', you know the accent part. Then I asked my friend what is all this about and he asked me, Google "Bitcoin". I said, "Wait! W...what? Bit...Bitcoin?" He said, "Yes, correct."
I asked him, "What is it?"
He was also not much known to it but asked me to visit a Bitcoin forum to know more about it (he didn't know the name of the forum then). I immediately took my phone in my hands to know about this new big thing I was not at all aware about, and then the second result was Bitcointalk forum, that's how I landed here.

Topics like these does bring out some memories 2 years back  Tongue I never got to know anything from my friends and all were just self taught. I first got to know about bitcoin in 2016 and never read a lot about the same until before December 2017. I just read about bitcoin in general from wikipedia somewhere around December 24, 2017 and for the second time on Christmas, when I thought of reading about bitcoin I saw a medium article which described about bitcointalk and how this forum played a role in satoshi's last messages.

The forum never made a great impact on me for the first time. On New Year 2018, I received $2 worth of BTC for buying a new mobile from a local shop! To understand about the best wallets to store my btc, I created an account here on January 2 and certainly created a topic in my local board asking about the  best wallet in the market to store my $2 btc. This is how I got to know about bitcointalk!  Grin

P.S The topic had a short span of life and was removed by MOD on Day 2 Cry

This is probably one of the lamest stories you will hear but I actually found out Bitcoin in a Facebook group which I actually joined right after I found an article about Bitcoin being the new "gold". When I was a total newbie in Bitcoin and the whole crypto industry I got so curious that I joined a lot of crypto groups about trading and one day a famous cloud mining/hyip site, Hashocean, suddenly vanish and it got talked a lot in the group and then one of the members linked a thread in Bitcointalk. It was that one thread that actually made me curious about the site and made me interested because Bitcoin has an actual forum. Bitcointalk itself is considerably more better compared to the FB groups I have joined combined. It was more organized in a sense that I don't have to jump to different groups just to find topics and questions I want to find the answer from. Aside from that comparing BCT to the FB groups I have joined there is actually a conversation or a healthy debate going on which makes the forum more complete, unlike in the groups where you will see some "yes" and "nos" without any kind of explanation whatsoever.

Way back last 2017 I was searching about faucets I found bitcointalk thru search engines, I was finding info about XRB faucets (now nano) I bump into bitcointalk I was just reading I didn't register yet. And then airdrop and bounties came famous I was interested and registered and that's how I started with bitcointalk. Later on, my knowledge about bitcoin grows as I read in this forum and communicate with other members it really helps me to be knowledgeable about cryptocurrency and blockchains. And I am very amazed and proud that the creator of bitcoin is the founder of this forum I am glad to be a member here.

Bitcoin = Financial freedom
One of my friends suggested me about bitcoin in the year 2013 - 14 that it will be one of the most important revolution innovation which is going to be more bloom in the next few years but I thought that it is not going to make anything influential as he suggested but in 2017 only I realized that I did make great mistake not knowing how much change i is going to bring to the wold's economic structure.

In 2017 he itself remind me about bitcointalk to get more intensive information can be found here.

Probably it was on a Google search and also recommended by a friend. You know when you search a complex about bitcoin and cryptocurrency question on google and sometimes it already had a discussion here in the forum, it happened to me I forgot what is the question that I search but a bitcointalk discussion appears. I become familiar and the forum until a friend of mine recommended this site mo me since im already a bit familiar in the forum I take my friend's advice, then created a new account and then started my journey here in the forum.

Not your keys, not your coins!
I knew about the forum in 2017 when the guy I know on Facebook made his status about airdrops for old accounts. He is very famous in my local, so I created my account because of my curiosity (I knew he stated old accounts). One those days, I did not know too much about bitcoin, and crypto currency so that forum is helpful for me (I only felt it is helpful months later).

That is where I came from and joined the forum. I know you guys mostly don't want to see such boring stories but it is mine.

been a while and my memory has never fired on all cylinders anyway but..

i know i 1st heard about bitcoin in an anandtech forum post. probably just used a search engine after that.

EDIT: in 2011 (before forks and drama and such) a search for "bitcoin forum" only gave one result IIRC

There are lies, damned lies and statistics. MTwain
<…> the "other bitcoin forum" came out higher on the Google search results back in the day hence I joined that first, also thinking that it was the "official" bitcoin forum lmao. I then realized after a while that Bitcointalk was far more active <…>
The sample results are very small in the poll so far, and cannot in any case be conclusive of facts, but seeing "search engine" being the first current poll runner, reminds me that SEM/SEO is important in the forum’s placement and traffic generation. That not only has an English reading, but also in every single language that has a local board (/thread) on the forum.

For example, if I search on google.es for "foro bitcoin" (bitcoin forum), the first direct link to Bitcointalk appears on position number 17 (second page of search results). If I simply search for the term "Bitcoin" on the same search engine domain, I did not find a direct link to Bitcointalk within the first 18 (default) pages of results. Ok the term does have a very broad set of information out there, and paid ads and such, but I’m not convinced search results couldn’t get any better …

When I was searching for some crypto-related query on the search engine, there were many bitcointalk topics related to that query. I landed up in Bitcointalk like this. I got inspired by the answers given by the members of the forum. Later I also opened an account on Bitcointalk and started sharing my knowledge and also I have learned many things from here.

You probably wanted to add some local rule that more or less says "If your reason is not stated on the poll options or others, please describe it by posting there. Otherwise, just select one of the available options to prevent spams etc".

While learning about crypto I do remember that google use to show the links of bitcointalk to read but, I had not clicked to me initially that the platform was this worth. Then when we meet common friends and they also mentioned about it and then I asked them more about it.
