Every one supports their own religion as they have the origin from those particular religion. Only very few exceptions were there who support opposite religion.

Your title somewhat conflicts with your opening post. 'Best religion' would take into account a variety of possible factors and be open to debate. Your question "Which God, gods, or lack thereof will reign supreme?" however, leaves no room for discussion. The answer is clear and straight forward: the one with the most followers/disciples/faithfuls/devotees. Numbers dictate the strength of any group, both physically and 'spiritually'.

To be fair, Christianity was the same way until 100 years ago... killing gays, atheists, american indians, witches, blacks, etc...

Secular humanism is still the best choice for global world peace. But I feel like some current revisioned religions are okayish if they are peaceful. Like neo-paganism.
Asian religions are generally better than Islam and Judaism and Christian. But there are some okayish communities in them too. For example Alevism under Islam is better than most of Muslim branches.

The leader knows he's not Jesus; his followers think he is. It gives them a sense of euphoria and it's cheaper than drugs and possibly healthier too with all the serenity and fresh mountain air. I imagine a number of those followers would be heavily medicated and languishing in psychiatric hospitals otherwise.

Still not sure why some educated people would even consider following these ancient books that preach nonsense.

I guess their brain can compartmentalize the nonsense so they can separate it from the reality.
Somehow they manage to reconcile all the nonsense with the reality around them.
