I think we should take the worst out of all religions... throw it in the trash, and forget about that nonsense
What would you do next, throw all forms of art you don't agree with into the trash? Then you could move on to trashing all the music, dance, sport and all other things non-scientific. Why waste our humanity on such trivial pursuits? Fuck culture, there should be nothing on this earth that can't be rationalized and proven with science. We should apply the scientific method to our every pursuit. That will solve all worldly problems. Maybe then we could all get along peacefully (I mean, if there is enough empirical evidence to prove that peace is a desirable outcome).
Wow, guy... you think a lot of crazy shit
Who said any of that? Not me...
I said we should get rid of the bullshit in religions... like the homophobia, pro-slavery, genocide, magic, etc... remove that bullshit, leaving the good stuff... keep the good stuff
Basically the same thing Thomas Jefferson did with the New Testament...

You didn't have to say any of that. You're the self-proclaimed arbiter of bullshit.
The problem with projecting... is... you are mad at yourself, not me
I love art, music, etc... why would I want to get rid of any of that?
It's only religion which teaches people to do evil deeds while claiming to be the good guys...
For the most part, music and art are benign, they don't inspire hatred and violence in the way religion does
I'm neither angry with myself nor you, Melek. I think a lot of crazy shit while you're cutting and pasting religious texts to suit your world view. So, maybe we're both mad? Speaking of mad, I would be careful not to let anyone know if you decide to take scissors to the Koran.
I would only do that if I found some good stuff in there
Honestly, I haven't read it yet... only the occasional quote (typically the amusing stuff, like Muhammad flying around on a winged donkey)... it's on my reading list though
I gave up on their religion when I heard their prophet married a 6-year-old girl... but, that doesn't mean their book is worthless, just that it isn't written/inspired by god (spoiler: no religions were)
As an atheist, I would argue that all religions and books were written by humans, not gods... all systems of morality come directly from humans...
Some are better than others, but I would not declare Plato better literature than the Koran without first reading them both... that would be ignorant
