hi all,

total noob here, been mining on wafflepool for the past two weeks, with decent results but have some questions regarding the stalerate, since i am new to this i have not found a guide that explains all the different things in cgminer i.e. thread concurrency and intensity and all that.  I copied my build from a youtube video i am running 6 r9 270x's with a h81btc motherboard etc...  i have been successfully mining for the past two weeks using an intensity level of 20 and a thread concurrency of 24000 this seemed to have worked great for the first week and a half until the stratum change happened, now i have a stalerate of
15m Hashrate   15m Stalerate
2.21 MH/s              2.74%

is this a good number, the stale rate i see jumping all over clear up to 7%

i tried dropping the intensity level down to 17 and my hash rate stayed the same but my "Bitcoins earned (not yet sent): 0.00370838", stopped increasing as fast as it does with the 20.

the last two days i have gone from earning an average of 0.015 to less than 0.010, my most recent payout as you can see is .0079

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

2.21 sounds a bit low; I've got 5 270s (one of which is a 270x) and they run between 2.7 and 3.2 Mhs depending on how generous the hashing gods are feeling.

Definitely switch to Kalroth's cgminer. I did and using xintensity (actually raw intensity) I was able to tune those cards to give me a solid 95 - 110% WUE. A good thread on these cards with xintensity is https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/the-perfect-gigabyte-r9-270-cgminer-settings-459419

Sucky time to be starting a new mining rig!  markets are way down and pool hi-jacking occuring on several multipools.   6 R9-270x and only 2+ MHs? not good.  Dunno what to say there are wiser miners here than I.

See https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison for some guides for your cgminer settings that others are using.  Just a starting point, I am still learning about tweaking my cgminer.conf ...

I would advise to get cgminer-kalroth which was just patched today to deter hi-jacking.
http://k-dev.net/cgminer/

Be sure to include the new option

"no-client-reconnect" : true,

in your cgminer.conf if you decide to go with patched miner.  Also I have noticed cgminer-kalroth boosted my hashrate by about 20KHs per card which is awesome.

Any tips on tuning my cards 0:R9-280X 1:HD7950 PCS+ (both powercolor brand).
I am getting 729KHs on R9-280x and 559KHs on HD7950.
Both cards have volt-modded bios for lower temps and have been dis-assembled to reapply heat-sink paste (helped immensly)!

Just killed off cpuminer ... still mining with R9-280X and HD7950 Smiley  I am using "quota" in cgminer to work on several pools with my coins of choice (DOGE, MOON, AUR and waffle)

LOL I thought so, 20KHs is not worth time wasting on, stick to GPU rigs only hehe.  Only using that box for low diff DMD coin.

Just run the math to be certain.  And be sure to include your cost for electricity to run the cpu for mining purposes.

That machine is on 24/7 for Bittorrent usage and watching movies anyway and I have found a few Diamondcoin blocks with it Smiley

Even still, we are no longer in the good old days when a processor consumed the same amount of power when fully utilized or standing idle.  With SpeedStep and PowerNow, power utilization can scale down to very few watts when a cpu is idle, and cryptocoin mining with cpus is most often not cost efficient.  If you were to stop mining with your cpu, your electricity bill would likely decline by more than your cryptocoin earnings.

I wonder if I am mining at a profitable level with ANY of my rigs right now considering Internet and electric costs ... but holding a lot of coins in hopes that markets recover, mining waffle for bill paying lol

Just another dumbass question:  can this problem also affect pooler-cpuminer that I am running on one rig that I use for HTPC?   Have not seen anything unusual ...

A quick scan of pooler cpuminer code shows that it does indeed support client.reconnect messages, so it would be affected too.

But if you're paying for electricity for your cpu mining, then you should just turn it off anyway.

In case that can bring more information to troubleshoot and find the attack vector:

I saw today that 3 rigs out of 6 rigs (all mining at wafflepool) have been highjacked to 190.97.165.179 .

The interesting part was that those 6 rigs are at the same location (all running on the same network), using the same public IP, but only 3 got highjacked - not all 6.

Thank you for the quick update, Kalroth!

Sorry for the newb question, but how would one add the command to the config file?

"no-client-reconnect" : true,        ?
Yup, just like that.

http://k-dev.net/cgminer/ still shows 20140309 version as download ...
Press CTRL+F5 or whatever to force a refresh. Maybe I'll create a real page some day .. Smiley

LMAO thanks for the quick response Smiley

PW..  Know your busy but could we get an update from you please?Huh  Also are you by chance bouncing servers or is this the Hijack?   The last 3 hours I have been failing over(Not redirected) to other pools..  Would be nice to know if your bouncing servers?

Someone needs to let the dev's of sgminer know also because I think I read somewhere that they are pulling from kalroth github ...
Veox selectively pulls from my branch, at least he used to when I was more active. Regardless, this is a minor change to the client and it is easy to implement.
I'm more worried about the stratum server software, if this exploit really is so widespread.

Regardless, I made a quick fix to my branch and the binaries on my page are also updated.
https://github.com/Kalroth/cgminer-3.7.2-kalroth/commit/d78f8c896010049a06275db13a2816c0e201e41e
http://k-dev.net/cgminer/

Quote
QUICK FIX: I've added a --no-client-reconnect command to disable the 'client.reconnect'
stratum functionality in the client. It looks like there's an exploit that abuses said command,
but it is still not clear exactly how.

There's also an additional message when the reconnect happens: "WARNING: POTENTIAL
CLIENT.EXPLOIT!", but it requires you to be actively monitoring your log to catch it, and in
which case you already get a "Reconnect requested from Pool 0 to 127.0.0.1" message.

Note that disabling 'client.reconnect' might affect some pools that rely on the feature, like
pools that you lease your rig to.

Oh and this is dry-coded. :)
