Hey guys, is anyone else seeing a sharp drop in accepted shares? When I checked my miner this morning it's saying I'm mining at my full ~1mH/s, but I'm only getting an accepted share every 5-10 minutes. The output from CGminer just keeps reading "stratum from pool 0 detected new block"  and resetting the difficulty, but I'm not getting any accepted shares.

It's generally a rough week for the market

Great pool thank you for setting it up quick question.

Hey guys. I always got tons of Yay's here at waffle but for the last 24 hours im getting almost no payouts and no yay's across 9 miners. They range from 25kh to 200kh per unit.
Internet is fine, miners are fine, every blue moon I get a yay.... Im also barely getting any accumulated totals.Mining still shows 1mh. Sometimes it goes as low as 400 and as high as 1mh.

Anyone else weight in?

Also one of my miners is buggggging out why is the difficulty so low and increasing by one like this? I havent changed anything.... I have also never seen my miner do this on any pool ever...

My three miners,  a 2.75MH/s, a 900 KH/s  and a 410KH/s have been running solid for about 2 days with 0.77% reject rate.

This morning I see the reject rate is now all of a sudden pushed over 1%.  I think the current reject rates is much higher with the 512 difficulty.   Don't want to restart to see the real % because I want to see how many days they will go w/o a restart but I just wanted to provide that feedback.

There was a spike in hashrates while I was asleep (a server behaving oddly).  The locked difficulty will not affect rejects (restart a miner so it has fresh stats to see).

On the current stats page for my miner, can you also include the CURRENT DATE/ TIME so I can have an idea as to when the next payout might be coming?  I can see the date and time of my payouts but don't have a point of reference and am terrible at converting time zones!

Great service....wafflecoin has been working great for me.  Thanks!

How best to work - reboot after a while workers install or constantly lit, without rebooting?

A number of people are experiencing wildly fluctuating reported hash rates since the difficulty lock. I really don't think this is a problem as the shares submitted per round appears to remain reasonably steady. It might be worth extending the time over which the reported hashrate is measured & averaged.

This explains it very well:

Variance is essentially just change.

In regards to difficulty, if you on average find 500 shares worth of work in a given period (call it a minute), and your difficulty was set at 1, you'd be submitting 500x1 shares, and your variance would be pretty low (some 1min periods, you might have 520, some you might have 480, etc).

However, if your difficulty was 512, with the same average of 500 total work shares per minute, some minutes you might have 0, others you might have 1024.

This is the same principle as with mining larger difficulty coins.  While you might _on average_ find a block every 10 minutes, there will be periods of 20min that you find 0 blocks (0.00 btc earnings), and there will be periods where you find 3 blocks in 10 minutes (really high btc earnings).  On average you get paid the same (long enough time period), but in short time periods, there is a lot of variance.

there seems to be a problem with worker difficulty. my difficulty shot up to 512, i'm only mining at 700kh/s and have d=64 set as password, does anyone have similar problems?

read this.

Good Morning poolwaffle - I sympathise with the problem & really admire the effort you are putting in to make the pool the best it can be.

Just to try thinking outside the box for a moment and to try to gain an advantage by acting slightly differently to other pools - could you preempt a coin becoming the most profitable by tracking the growth, or decline, in profitability rather than the absolute profitability. That way it MAY be possible to jump on a coin before it is the obvious choice (and most importantly the other pools) and jump off just before the profitability dies?

Just throwing my thoughts out there Smiley

More often than not, the change in profitability is due to difficulty fluctuations rather than price changes (probably about 95% of the profitability is difficulty-based).  Meaning that you really can't get a head-start on it, as if you think the difficulty is about to drop, it hasn't yet, and its still unprofitable.  Only after the drop (when everyone sees it at the same time) is it profitable.

One thing that may be changing here in a minute, is I'm going to try locking difficulty to 512.  I'm worried a bit of our orphan problem is bandwidth based (unable to broadcast new blocks fast enough).  And some of that bandwidth has to do with stratum.  Higher difficulty shares = fewer shares (overall worth the same amount) = lower bandwidth.

Going to set difficulty to hard-locked 512 (will ignore anything you personally set via the d=xxx method).  Will leave it for a few hours and see how it goes.

For those of you with smaller miners (100 KHs or less), you'll definitely see higher variance, but overall your profits should remain the same.

Can anyone explain variance?

It seems I missed that post. Explains it, thanks!

=> Variance is the difference in profits you earn over a set amount of time. For example, with low difficulty you steadily earn xx BTC/hour. With high variance you often earn a lot less or a lot more, but it still evens out in the end.

Hi poolwaffle

How about a wafflepool lite - where miners are allowed to only put up a maximum of say 500MHs? This pool could be used to mine the faster, smaller, coins.

Do you think this is workable?

Are there any benefits to using a newer cgminer (use mainly 3.1.0 and 3.3.0) ? Iam more on the "if it aint broke dont fix it" line here... dont wanna touch the rights if they are working properly..  Roll Eyes

if it works leave it..mate
no benefit in hashrate
just new minor features

Dear Poolwaffle,

not to be a bad guy, but I don't get any 42 coin now with this high hashrate. it's a lot of BTC I'm missing, and don't think that's fair for anyone!

I have a 2MH/s hashrate, and don't get any. I see a lot of miners with 2 or less, so think you need to change it, with 2 extra zero's!

Hope you do it quick, because it's totally not fair this way Smiley!

Everything looks to be working properly at first glance, I'll disable for right now while I look into it further.
