Sounds like potcoin either does not have seed nodes or they are offline. If the seed nodes are offline that would explain the sync issues people are having.

Also, I don't know if potcoin still relies on IRC instead of seednodes but if it does make sure your firewall/AV allows potcoin to communicate over IRC.

In any case once you get a few good connections your peers database should start to fill up and it should become a non-issue for you going forward.

Edit:
I just tested....potcoin does not use IRC. Someone might want to look at the source to see what seednodes it uses and find out if they are offline.

Some very large wallets stopped staking recently, this could be part of the issue people are having.
We were up near 25% of the supply actively staking, we are now down to 10% and the block times have increased to about 60s/block on average.

It also would be very very nice if we could get some improvements wallet wise. I am currently helping alpha test a new reddcoin wallet that moves it from litecoin to being based on bitcoin core. When this code is finalized and pushed to production it would be awesome if we saw pot move to update the qt to implement some of the tech that redd is working on. In the pipeline is HD support in the QT wallet, what that means is that it would be like electrum only running as a full node rather than lite.

So sexy, it hurts.
Use the wallet commands that are outlined in my edited post, after the .conf explanation, it's a bit easier Smiley

Perhaps someone here can do a better tutorial on how to make a conf file Smiley

For those having issues syncing, you can always find an updated list of nodes here https://chainz.cryptoid.info/pot/#!network click on the node list for Potcoin:0.8.7.2 and add to your potcoin.conf  Smiley

Hello there is currently no .conf file for my pot coin wallet that I can find, and if i make one, then the wallet won't open. It crashes instantly. Ive been an investor since the beginning but This coin is starting to piss me off and I'm ready to dump them all and walk away.

Thanks goldstar!
I'll edit my post Smiley

Firstly, Thanks to AtomSea for his post, I was able add nodes via the debug window. Commands were slightly off, here's the proper code

addnode 164.132.25.194:4200 add
addnode 104.131.2.154:4200 add
addnode 2.110.136.110:4200 add
addnode 199.200.107.67:4200 add

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/pot/#!network

However, I agree with other community members that at this point in the game, it's crazy that we are having to manually add nodes to what is clearly a broken mac wallet.
The devs need to realize that releasing another wallet while these issues still persists is a bit of a slap in the face.

Beyond the issues previously mentioned, I have a few gripes of my own

1. There is no icon for the dock, yet there is a small potcoin icon for the top bar?
2. Major issues such as not being able to sync or connect your wallet are being addressed by community members (which is great) but where are the devs?
3. Website suggest that you can spend potcoins at a wide range of merchants, however none of the merchants I visited actually accept it or even have anything remotely related.
4. Don't hate on me for this one, but website also has a giant American Flag which is cool and all but I'm Canadian and so are my customers... We should make a potcoin flag?

These are just a few reasons I think the current rally will be short lived. As an investor/merchant, coins like this are generally not worth the time of day but I guess I have a soft spot.

Hello

thanks for the info
I tried adding the nodes into the debug window and i get the error

Method not found (code -32601)

It accepts the "addnode" command if you remove the = sign in there but still no connections to the network. All my other wallets connect instantly.

Still no connection. I don't know if I'm comfortable going into and making .conf files on my mac. Im a trader and not a computer programmer.

I just tried making a .conf file and now the wallet won't even open. Crashes instantly.

Potcoin Devs,

Not responding and addressing to the multitude of people that are having wallet problems is odd.

How is it that you can have a new release of a wallet, but it doesn't sync to a single node?
Yet I have potcoin running on an old machine that is fully synced, but when I download the most current Potcoin full-wallet from your webpage to another machine, it doesn't sync? And all the old nodes in the above lists provided on your thread don't work?

And, given this is a recurring problem, why aren't you offering an updated node list regularly and conf file instructions, or wallet addnode instructions?
Or simply make sure this is hard-coded in the new wallet...

Think I'm the only one? Read back in this thread, and also just do a 45 second search list of "potcoin doesn't sync" or any number of variations on that theme. You'll see this has never been addressed and that you've lost a lot of potential users.

To all of you that are having problems and still wish to try to make potcoin work, here are 4 current nodes from a wallet I've had running for over a year now:
As of 11:30pm Central Time 2/8/2016 -

addnode=164.132.25.194:4200
addnode=104.131.2.154:4200
addnode=2.110.136.110:4200
addnode=199.200.107.67:4200

Create a notepad file and save as potcoin.conf in local disk / users / / AppData / Roaming / Potcoin.
(To see your AppData file you'll need to know how to look at hidden files, you may need to google that part)

Or go in your wallet and click help, then debug window, then type
addnode=164.132.25.194:4200 add
And hit enter.
Do that for the other three entries as well (don't forget to put add at the end).
I did that for my new wallet and it starting syncing the second I ran the wallet.

Ok devs, stop with your social media and PR pushes and address the most basic problems.

1. A wallet that works and syncs out of the box.
2. When you solve that, notice that your wallet runs on high ram - way higher than most (insert pot joke here) (and don't give me the staking excuse, i also run curecoin and ppc, they run substantially lower in ram) - most people that run potcoin are also running other alts. They don't want an alt that regularly consumes 300,000+k in ram.

Thank you for you time.

Peace,
AtomSea

The whole idea of making these wallets is to make them user friendly for people that don't understand or know how to add nodes and .conf files into their OS. Not everyone is a computer nerd. The developers should just make a wallet with the current info needed to run. Thats why developers make updates and new releases.

Hello potcoin people, my computer crashed whilst I was staking...now I have no active connections and my coins are stuck staking
Any advice on what I should do?........cheers

First of all make a backup of your wallet. Then ;

1. you can try it in another computer and start sync from 0,
if everything goes well then you can;
2. erase the database from your client that crashed and also start the sync process.
