Please go to the Breakout Chain Thread Here

Brief Backstory

The thread above is the thread for a coin called "Brocoin" commissioned by "Breakout Coin", a coin company. Brocoin was never implemented, due to lack of funds. The original developer , Jay Berg,  was a hired consultant, and we were not able to keep him full-time. Jay moved on to a new exciting project,  Protoblock.com.

The Breakout Coin project hired a new developer, James Stroud, who completed a ground breaking coin, called "Breakout Chain", with help from, and features inspired by Jay's "Bergstake". Breakout Chain not only has a innovative staking mechanism, but is also a Proof-of-Work chain with many novel existing and planned features. Breakout Chain's features are designed to complement Breakout Coin's business model of seeding mass adoption by providing promotional funds to promising businesses.

I would expect more professionalism with regards to publicity prior to an ICO. We need daily info leaks, guys!

Platform should accept bitUSD instead.

Yes, BitUSD, like litecoin, dogecoin and darkcoin, will likely be among the first cryptos to be exchanged for BRO.
But "instead" of BRO?  Consider these related issues.

1. BitUSD's tie to USD is good as a steady unit of account to purchase merchandise, but it hardly seems well matched for those who choose to be in the crypto and gaming community, for which BRO is designed.  For any gamers who don't want the volatility, they can cash-out of BRO when they choose.  For those who welcome the risk for potential gain, BitUSD offers... about the least variability possible.

2. BRO is inherently a global coin. USD, while being the "world's reserve currency", isn't everybody's base currency. Around 2/3 of fiat to crypto exchange involves CNY.  While BitShares is leading edge, BitUSD locks its users to the fiat banking system's flagship, the USD.

3. BitUSD implements the BitShares structure created for widely varied, distributed autonomous companies.  As such BitUSD lacks the many selected coin features of BRO, like improved Proof-of-Stake, privacy options, fixed block rewards, etc.  Reading through the list, you'll see what the BitUSD holders would be missing.

At a "traditional" casino or poker room, when I buy some chips for $100, I know that I will always be able to get back that $100 for those chips. With crypto, it's a little different. Let's say, the price suddenly drops 20% against BTC and BTC drops 5% against USD, and suddenly I only hold 75% value with my BRO coins. Of course, it can also go the other way, but the infamous volatility of crypto currencies will always be a barrier of entry to those who are not at least a little obsessed with crypto.
A solution could be to offer tokens with attached values either in USD or BTC.

Another point about using crypto-based chips versus USD-based chips.  Yes, the value of the crypto-based chip will vary over time relative to the USD or BTC.  And that could hurt or help somewhat, depending on how long the holding period and how big the move.  For those who like the gaming and not the downside (and upside) potential, they can just buy-in and cash-out each session.  Then that exchange variability is pretty small, especially relative to the gaming.

On the suggestion of offering alternative chips based on BRO, USD or BTC, imagine the consequences.  Chips in the same game at the same time wouldn't have -- nor be perceived to have -- the same value, and even those could change through time.  So every casino has to have the same base for all their chips.  That way entries and payouts have a common worth (unit of account).  Makes for an even playing field, and a lot simpler.

I'm very intrigued but I wonder why the website is so empty?  Huh

Assuming you are referring to http://breakoutgaming.com/ (our splash page)...

The announcement thread is coming soon which will have a link to the fundraiser website.
This website should have all relevant information that you are looking for.

good question regarding volatility and price movements. however i just want to point out you use of the term "p&d schemes".

if BRO as a currency will be listed on the well known exchanges, you can bet your life on it, that it will be subject to massive p&d schemes, as soon as some serious players see an opportunity in the coin

a currency trading on an exchange does not really fit into the definition of a p&d scheme. even if this external exchange creates volatility, heavy trading, and brings in the  automated high-frequency trading bots, still this is all normal markets and not a p&d in any way. a p&d scheme is when false information and hype is used to pump a price for the purpose of selling at the higher prices. This is usually done during initial offerings of scam coins.

sometimes, a market can be manipulated to show a large spike up, only to crash back down. when looking at a huge spike in price at an exchange, make sure you look at the volume, low volume is an indication that there is no real buying, and price will drop back to where there is liquidity, as soon as sellers come in.

Hi all,

Great initiative, but I have some questions:

I understand that BRO will be like chips to a casino, that is, if I want to play, I have to get some at the cashier. So far, this is straightforward,

BUT..

Also, if BRO as a currency will be listed on the well known exchanges, you can bet your life on it, that it will be subject to massive p&d schemes, as soon as some serious players see an opportunity in the coin. My point is, that this exposure to heavy price fluctuations could scare off the high rollers from depositing large amounts into their accounts with Breakout Gaming.

This is just me thinking and I could be wrong Smiley

-- since BRO is distributed and decentralized, it will not have any hard connection to breakout gaming once launched. So ICO investors, should look at BRO by itself when deciding to invest or not.

if breakout gaming is successful and follows through to use BRO exclusively, and if BRO is a technical success, then there is a case to be made that both the coin and platform are stronger together than alone.

Woah, woah, woah .. what do you mean if? The only value holding BRO coin would be that it is the exclusive coin used on the gaming platform, other than its just a scheme to acquire capital for breakout gaming.

How do i then invest into breakout gaming?

Hi Megashira1,

Thank you for your question and the opportunity to clarify the relationship between BRO the coin and Breakout Gaming the online gaming company.

In order to place a wager on any of the Breakout Gaming platforms, you will need BRO.  We make this easy by supplying an integrated Exchange which will eventually offer trading of multiple currency pairs.  You can trade bitcoin to BRO and back.  You can trade litecoin to BRO and back.  As we add more coins to the Exchange, more and more of the crypto community will be welcomed into our gaming ecosystem.

However, BRO is also an open source decentralized coin with stand alone merits and innovations.  Breakout Gaming does not "own" the BRO coin.

Ok, thanks for your response. Your post gives me much more confidence than the former.

However, I would like you to clarify: Does Breakout Gaming plan on accepting other cryptos alongside BRO, or BRO exclusively.. forever.

Also, how does one invest into Breakout Gaming itself?

chill BRO, its just a hypothetical. you should learn exactly what a crypto-currency is before investing anyways.

look at the context. of course BRO will be integrated and the exclusive currency of breakout gaming.. i was just pointing out the merits of the coin on its own.

and please remove the red bold text, once your satisfied. ty
