It's one of the games when the advantage on the field doesn't convert into the final score. The full-time result was 1-0 to Middlesborough despite Chelsea being the dominating side. They still have 2nd leg to play on 23rd at home and I'd still expect them to go through.
They have no real chances of finishing in the top 5 of the Premier League, so I don't think they'd be giving up on the EFL Cup that easy. Their fans want to see some trophy.

The second match will be played at Chelsea's home ground. This will be an advantage for Chelsea who plays as host. Although I predict Middlesbrough will try the bus parking tactic because they have an advantage in the first leg. But that would be very risky because they only lead by 1 goal in the first leg, which means that if Chelsea were able to score just one goal then the score would be a draw and it would continue with extra time. I think a mediocre team like Middlesbrough must be able to maintain their lead and score additional goals because if they make the slightest mistake, that will be Chelsea's chance to turn things around.
Why a lot of us are still arguing about Chelsea's chances of eliminating Middlesbrough and progress to the final of the UEFA champions league competition is because Chelsea players especially Cole Palmer failed to convert their clear goalscoring chances that was created in first leg of the EFL Cup semi final game at Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough undoubtedly did their best but had Chelsea converted their chances in that game, it would've been more easier for them to reach the final of the EFL cup.

But that being said, I'm very optimistic that when Middlesbrough visit Chelsea for the second leg of the tie, they're surely gonna beaten by the blues with a better result than what they got in the first leg

Nkunku's injury, in my opinion, won't be as serious as that because, if it is, Chelsea's performance will suffer once more. The reason I say this is because, since Nkunku returned, Chelsea has been winning matches; Chelsea can't function without Nkunku because he can play any position up forward. That's why it's no surprise that Chelsea lost the ELF semifinal match; I've been thinking that Nkunkun's absence would have resulted in a draw rather than a victory over Chelsea.

Additionally, the Chelsea coach's starting lineup is not particularly strong, so why is he going to start Palmer as a centre forward when Jackson would be a better choice given Palmer's lack of skill at that position? Additionally, Broja is the player the coach will start the game with, which is another reason why the coaches are sometimes held accountable for the team's performance because they fail to take the necessary actions to improve the team's performance.

Nkunku is having a hip injury however thankfully it isn't a serious one. He is expected to return on January 26th. But in the meantime he will miss at least two games (vs Fulham and Middlesbrough both home). He is likely to miss the Aston Villa game in the FA Cup on January 27th also. But hopefully he can recover as soon as possible.

It is really stressful to be a fan of Chelsea in this league.  Sad  They just can't make any improvement for the last 2 seasons. Probably they will finish this season out of top 5 too. It would even be surprising for me if I see them finishing near top 5 in points. I think Boehly needs to step down from his seat because of bad management.
Yes, Mauricio Pochettino has emphasized that the injury suffered by Nkunku is not too serious so Chelsea are not too worried about the injury suffered by their player. Yes, it is possible that he will be absent for the next 2 or 3 matches because if he is too hasty to recover, it will make things worse. the condition of the injury he experienced. This is indeed unpleasant news for Chelsea as they are struggling to get back on their feet but they have to accept the fact that their players are injured, even though they are not too serious, Chelsea still have to think about it in the Premier League match which will be held this weekend.

Being a fan of a club, you must be prepared to accept that your favorite club experiences a decline which is caused by several factors, the lack of qualified players and the lack of the coach's ability to improve cooperation will reduce the quality of the club. And what Chelsea has experienced in the last 2 seasons is indeed worrying because this club finished in the place not a good ranking among mediocre clubs, and it is not impossible if Chelsea also ends this season in the same rank in the middle of the standings.

Chelsea... I just can't figure out what is going on with this team. If only they were more capable at finishing up their dangerous attacks with goals... I mean things would have been much better for them now. They had to move on with Jackson in the centre-forward position. This cost them really much truthfully because Jackson has been quite below the expectations.  Sad

7 goals in 19 PL matches. This isn't good statistics for a centre-forward if they are wasting many more opportunities to score meanwhile.

Nkunku is said to be injured once again. Hopefully it isn't another serious injury.

This is why the EPL league is so interesting to follow. Newcastle's phenomenal last season, Aston Villa's phenomenal season, two historic clubs. I also think with you, Aston Villa in my opinion securing the top four seems more realistic than becoming champion because it is very difficult, Liverpool and Man City are teams that have a strong mentality and can be consistent. Moreover, Man City, with the return of their star KDB, will certainly find it difficult to compete with them, even though in the previous match Aston Villa managed to beat Man City, but in my opinion, in the second match they will not be able to beat Man City a second time.

Aston Villa's next match is against Everton, this match can be said to be an even match but I am sure Aston Villa will not waste the opportunity to continue collecting three points in every match so that their position remains safe in second place in the EPL league. Even though this match will be played at Everton's home ground, I think Aston Villa will win this match.
Yes, I think Aston Villa don't have a winning mentality because their consistency is sometimes still unstable, the same goes for Arsenal who sometime play well but toward the end they also decline, and it seems like the strongest candidates to win the title this season seem to be only Liverpool and Manchester City. But this can still changes if that clubs cannot maintain its consistency, Manchester City will certainly be more confident because their important player have returned and of course this will be a big advantage for Manchester City to returned to fighting for the top position which is currently occupied by Liverpool.

If you looks at the statistical data of their meetings in the last few match, Aston Villa dominated the victory over Everton. In the away match Aston Villa can still beat Everton. So I think even though this is an away match, it is not a bigs problem for Aston Villa because they are quite strong this season to be able to wins every game.
The fact that they have it is the interesting part, like "how" do they have that? It doesn't really feel like they should, it's a weird feeling that they are having something like this, I feel like they are having a wonderful season, and Emery is a wonderful manager who has proven himself to be one of the best in this period, he is taking a team that is 8th in valuation to a place where they are second, and actually no joke they do have a chance to win the title.

I am not saying they will, but they do have that chance, and even the fact hat they "might" after the whole first half is over, is just a wonderful place to be for them, they shouldn't even be remotely anywhere close here, and that is why I think it's a great thing for them.

Losing Nkunku had a big impact on Chelsea's performance because Jackson was still playing below expectations. But I heard the news that Nkunku is definitely not injured for that long. This is certainly good news. Hopefully Nkunku can play against Middlesbrough in the second leg. If Jackson is played, I am pessimistic that Chelsea will be able to beat Middlesbrough to advance to the next round. He really couldn't replace Nkunku and I saw Chelsea had lots of chances in front of the Middlesbrough goal but only made 5 shots on target.

Seven goals that something better than Manchester United Marcus Rashford who's always on the wing dragging and begging for ball rather than making good runs in the eighteen yard box!

Anyways, Nicholas Jackson poor ASF, he shouldn't be used as nine and not even Broja deserves it. They know what to do, they're only been recalcitrant and adamant.

Mauricio Pochetino also should have a hand in this deal, he should be dropped if he doesn't send them upwards.
Nothing too serious, I read it has something to do with his hip.

That's an impressive record by Emery's Aston Villa. I can't remember the last time Emery guided a team for a such impressive continous performance, because I only remember that he got sacked at almost every club he managed. LoL. Their consistency, home win records, and ability to cause trouble for other teams have indeed been noteworthy. The unexpected nature of their success adds an exciting element to the competitive landscape of the league.

But I'm still doubting that they are able to compete for the title considering the competition at the to five is so tight, only six points gap between first and fifth position while Aston Villa currently is second. The Competition in the second half of the season will surely increase, especially with teams like Manchester City with their key players coming back from injuries likely to intensify their efforts to reclaim the top spot. The battle for top positions will undoubtedly be intense, and it will be fascinating to see how Aston Villa maintains their momentum and navigates the challenges ahead.
Well I think Emery is such a quality coach as we can note some success he’s had at clubs he’s coached but as we know it doesn’t get rosy alway. So when things go the other way round he gets sacked. With this Villa team, he’s achieved quite a fortune and has helped this team increase in stat and team’s strength, and currently they've become a team that most mediocre teams are scared of facing cause of their present form.

Them challenging for the league might not be realistic now because I don’t think they’ve gotten the realization to campaign for the tiltle against the big boys. Challenging for the title reauired consistency and they’ve not attained that yet. Because they win some and loose some but have managed to still remain on top, so I think a better challenge will be for the UCL spot and not the league.

today's match in the efl cup midlesbourgh vs chelsea.
and until now chelsea is still behind 1-0. even the championship division answer chelsea hassles. clearly shows the quality of chelsea is less able to compete in the premiere league. even though his player spending is crazy maybe because the price is overate and the coach is less able to build a team and buy players that fit his game scheme.
No one cares about Chelsea today, whatever the situation, they are always lost and lost. 400 million pounds just for landing on the 10th stand is shamed for clubs who have expensive players like Moises Caicedo, (115 pounds). 22 matches is a lot if Pochetino can't adapt yet, he look stuck and don't know what should he do to get win and delight fans. I think, with all the great players chelsea have, Chelsea must think about changing clever tactician asap, Pochetino is good, but in past, before everyone in premier league knew the tactics, today all premier club knows how to beat Pochetino tactics even chelsea have good defender and  midfielder.

What do you think?, Does Chelsea need to change coach?

Chelsea was not able to win the match against Middlesbrough. But I think that was expected from almost everyone. So I don't think it is going to make a lot of difference in the perspective for people.
That could be wrong. Many fans were excited and had high expectations for the match against Preston, confident that Chelsea would come out victorious, especially since they were facing a seemingly easier opponent like Middlesbrough. The reality said the opposite thing which is making so many fans are feeling so desperate to the club. Even there were some fans are starting to surrounding PochOUT on twitter. People were getting excited after chelsea destroyed preston with 4 goals. Yet they were getting disappointed result like this which is hurting their fans.

And to be frank I do think that they need to change the coach. Because he is not bringing in the best results. He is not even bringing in the result that can be counted as average for Chelsea to be honest. Especially after spending so much money, they should be able to bring in far better results compared to what they are bringing in. so I don't think the authority is going to be happy with the coach. I think it is going to be better if they take a bold step and change the coach. Because I think they have tried everything with this coach and it is not working.
To be fair if the coach needs to be changed. Pochettino has always wrongly deciding the decision that costed the club a lot like lost the important match against middlesbourgh. How can he put levy as a LF while he was always playing so badly as LW?
This is unacceptable thing for now and no doubt if pochettino can be sacked anytime by tood boehly. I do support todd to sack him as soon as possible coz pochettino was totally useless coach here.
He can't even handle the club to play even better after he got a lot of money splashed for the new players.

I think Aston Villa's chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season are very big and I'm sure they will be able to qualify. But honestly I don't see any chance of them becoming champions unless they are able to do what Leicester did in the 2015/2016 season. But it was a miracle like a fairy tale. If you look at the opportunities, I think in this modern era it will be difficult if the team is not able to perform consistently and has good squad depth. But let's just wait and see what Aston Villa can do at the end of the season.

The happenings in the English Premier League in the past two seasons is the reason why it's regarded as the strongest league in the world. It's a league whereby a team with limited number of quality and world class players surprises everyone by putting out good performances that'll see them finish in a better position than their supposed better teams.

Last season, we all saw as Newcastle United performed exceptionally well to finish the season in the top four of the league table ahead of clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur and this season, Aston Villa have been immensely impressive and of they can continue with their current performance, they'll surely finish the season in the top four. Teams like Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea will surely want to fight to finish in the top four of the league but I think Aston Villa have all it takes to remain in the top four till the end of the season

Aston Villa in the last one year have been the highest point takers in the EPL. They've been exceptional at their games, winning almost always and ensuring that they stay at the top chart. No one saw them coming and they've been able to be consistent, keeping home win records this season and they've not failed to cause troubles for teams. I see them going to the UCL next season but that would happen if they maintain their good form cause at this 2nd segment of the league the competition would be two times tougher.

They've got the capacity to remain on top but I really don't think City who's now below them would let them stay there, so if at all there'd be a change in the standings, then Villa won't go below the 6th position. They're so good to even try qualifying for the UEL next season. As competitive as the EPL has been this year, so far Villa have proven to be strong enough to fight back threats and create value and confidence in the team too.

Aston is not that strong when away, their away record is 4 - 4 - 2 (W-L-D).
Everton at home also are not impressive at all, but they able to beat Chelsea and Newcastle last month.

Yeah hard to predict but there might be lots of goals in this match IF Everton playing well.
I prefer to watch it live first before placing any bet on this match.

I don't know if the real reason behind Chelsea's being inconsistent is their coach. I tend to think about this situation like it is more due to the bad management by the owner of the club.  Sad

Because if you have noticed Chelsea haven't been good at all since Abramovich left his seat to Boehly. Boehly only knows about splurging on players, that's all. But when it comes to having a good management of the club there isn't any tangible example of it I'm afraid. Pochettino also said by himself previously that the club was in a much worse condition then he imagined after he arrived.

As a result I don't know if any coach can really make a huge impact on the club right now.

They didn't badly but should have attacked more, scored those chances which they had in the first half of the game. They messed up.

I barely blame players now, if you take a good look at him at Brighton he deserves his flowers, he needs a good coach backing him, till today, I feel like Mauricio Pochetino is not that man to manage Chelsea, maybe a tactician like De Zebri would make better sense, I wonder what's the difference between Graham Potter's performance and that of Pochetino Mauricio? Chelsea keeps on test running failed managers. Pochetino Mauricio, Frank Lampard and lasty, Graham Potter.

They need a new coach, personally, he should leave.
