In this match Spurs played great even without a complete squad. If they had Son, maybe the score would be different. Yes that's right. Man United's defense is very bad, especially goalkeeper Onana. Onana was very selfish by delaying going to the Africa Cup of Nations, insisting on playing with Man United and in the end not winning. The more Onana continued to play, the more Man United was hit. The number of goals conceded is very, very, very, very, very much.
I was surprised by Erik Ten Hag's decision, even though he had often conceded goals, Onana was still trusted to be the starter as if he didn't have a backup goalkeeper at all. If in another team like Madrid, they don't play well in three matches, they must be benched first so they can introspect and give the reserve goalkeeper confidence to be able to perform. In this match it was very clear that Onana could not be relied on in anticipating corners and crosses. He didn't dare cut the ball in the air, he was too focused on watching his teammates duel for the ball.
Manchester United defense as we know isn’t the best of any defense in this league and worst of it is their goalie Onana. I don’t see any key thing he added to the match that prompted him staying back from AFCON, because he still conceded some cheap goals and made some crazy shaky mistakes. I think if the Spurs squad was quite complete then it could have been doom for United. ETH still relying on Onana is one story we’ve spoken on quite a number of times .
The man trusts his players gotten from their youthful age more reason Onana and Anthony still remains key in his build up project. I think Onana should be dropped for a while and probably he could regain his confidence to stand between the sticks, Ten Hag haven't tested the new Turkish keeper yet to see his capability and see if Onana needs to rest for a while, I think he needs to start trusting some of this substitute players too.
